Subject: What two armies would you take to an Apocalypse battle?
|
 |
Black Templar Recruit Undergoing Surgeries
|
So, one of the basic premises in Apocalypse is to take every model you own and field it. So, theoretically, I could lay down my 2000 points of BT's along side my small contingent of 'Nids.
Q. If you could choose any two different armies working together in an Apoc game, what would they be?
Specific examples as to why you chose your forces are welcome, and indeed encouraged.
I also wonder if anyone is developing a new theme to combine multiple or usually unrelated armies for Apoc reasons...

For my 2 choices-
1. Space Marines.
2. 'Other'
My 'other' entry is for my Legio Titanica Titans, on assignment from Legio 'Astraman'.

Yes, that appears to be an army unto itself...
btw, did you scratch build any of that? They look really nice, and I'm not just saying that because they are big

I gotta say Orks and CSM just becuase of how crazy it would get. One of my favorite fiction peices is with the Archeon arc where Grimgor Ironhide headbutts the gak out of Archeon to prove a point then just goes back to fighting. I love Orks.

Slight edit to the poll... sorry CSM players! I didn't mean to leave you off, I swear!
I would totally take BT and 'Nids.
Can you imagine Genestealers pouring out of a Land Raider? Hahaha, Insanity!
I was contemplating making a big 'ol 'Nid mod, to make it appear as if the BT, or some Imperial forces were controlling them.
Ex: Converting a Fex with a Penitent engine, to make it appear as if the sister was "controlling" it.

You can take anything you want.
You could take 20 Hive Tyrants and every Special SM Character if you want, with a side order or Abbadon and a baker's dozen Vindicare Assassins.
That's not to say you SHOULD.... but you COULD.
Apoc has no rules about which models are or are not allowed to ally. It's all about playing your models. regardless of the circumstances.
I chose Eldar & IG, but my IG would specifically be DKOK with the new DKOK models ONLY. TOO much cool stuff there NOT to.

Imperial Guard is a must-have. They look awesome at Apocalypse-sized games.
The other army would be fighty SM of some sort (BT).

I'd go with Guard and Tau. Guard for the big honking tanks (ie, Baneblade), Tau for pretty much everything else.

Two forces each of guard and marines, if I had both my armies finished.
Guard-wise, there'd be the long-range support section, and the meatshields. Lots of tanks, including a baneblade or two.
Marines, short-medium range firepower, and a deep-striking force of evilness. Lots of infantry.

Well, I only use two of my 40K armys and thats orks (4500 points) and Death Gaurd themed Chaos (1500).
Unless the deathgaurd were using the Orks as some sort of plague carriers, I can't see any real reason for those two to team up.
If I ever got round to making the Imperial Navy themed gaurd or Steel Legion that I want to do, I could ally them with my ancient, gankily painted Blood Angels. It would be okay I suppose.

I'd go with the aforementioned Tau and IG combo.
Leman's, Bassie's, Baneblades backed up by rail gun o'clock.
Tanks can annihilate enemy infantry and railguns blast the fluffy begeezus out of enemy armor.
For the extra combination, deepstriking suits supported by deepstriking veterans.
But, one must admit, there is wonderful feeling of loading Battlewagons and Skullhammas with genestealers and carnifexs.

I have CSM (Nurgle), Imperial Guard and Nids.
I voted for CSM + Guard: IG for the tanks, indirect and LCs, Chaos for the resilient infantry. Plus I think that the strategems of Chaos Annihilation Force and Sentinel Recon Force complement each other nicely (use the 2+ hit on one enemy unit for the Sentinel Lascannons (+ all other LCs, really) vs a superheavy; after the 30+ Chaos Terminators take an objective, use Strategic Redeployment from the Recon force to swoop them to another hot spot and stick some Plague Marines on the cleared objective). Also I like the idea of sticking Abaddon and a Tzeentch Sorceror (on Disc with Warptime) in amongst a mass of IG line squads, as countercharge.
However, the comment about Genestealers in a (Chaos) Landraider is intriguing...
I can't wait to play my first Apoc game! My book is in transit right now...

i would have to say tyranids and necron ive seen it played, i was the necron it is by far one of the most disgusting alliacnes ever! it was like 10,000 points of necrons and tyranids against 10,000 of space marines. it was a slaughter! i lost one unit of necron warriors out of my 5 a total of 12 guys out of them. using the phalanx helps so much i get up on a 2+ and it -1 to strength of shooting through it. and the tyranid player lost 1 unit of 32 hormagaunts which he had endless swarm so that meant NOTHING!

If I had any to choose from, I would take my Sisters with a large block of Tau and the Headquarters Strat.
I would keep the Sisters up front to soak up firepower while the Firewarriors sat near the HQ for tank hunters. All those Str5 guns popping into Void/Power Fields at Str6? I will roll enough 6's to pen that those bad boys will go down fast, then the rail guns can smash some Str11 hits into the hull.
Of course, there are a LOT of titans in my group, so against normal lists, that isn't quite so tasty sounding.
Generally I just take my Sisters with GKs and Marine lists. Plenty of fun there, though I am still lacking ranged firepower. Until the Redemptor is all glued! BWHAHAHAHA

As much as I hate to admit it, I'd want Space Marines backing up the Guard.
Space Marines are the Anvil, Guard are the Hammer. Wall of hard targets gets stuck in as soon as possible, rain of hell obliterates anything they're not fighting. ( And if a blast or two scatters back onto the fighty marines... oh well... ).
Should any part of the line fail, well, you've now got a tank in your face.

Yeah, lots of IG players. But I guess that also would extend to the Chaotic IG-ish armies out there. Like the Blood Pact, for example.

Having done it so many times now, the combination of Guard and Eldar is just brutal.
Legions of tanks and squadrons of Super-Heavies backed up by waves of skimmers and a few Revenant Titans has proven to be quite adapt at smashing anything that gets near them.
The only weakness this formation has is Termiantors. When you face 100 Terminator Deep Striking near you in a single turn, it gets ugly. Nothing can stand up to massed Chainfists. Nothing.
