Still though...who CAN'T wait for the 18th? Even if it is just crap....hopefully something decent though. The whole Mystery Box thing sure as hell better mean something cool, because that's just so mystery box-like.

See you say it jokingly, but that would actually be quite cool . . . but yeah I love the fact that everyone saying they don't think this mystery box idea was good as it kills hype . . . but instead it made loads of hype about people trying to 2nd guess GW about what it is . . . but also it has built it so high that like 90% of people will be disappointed, whereas the 10% who were right will buy 10 each lol

Was in my local store earlier, and the staff were all wearing the 'Everything you have been told is a lie' T shirts, on the back was something about the emporers truth and the games workshop website.
The manager said it was basically 'stop reading the rumour websites, as the GW website will now have more news on'
I'd trust him on this, but hey ho.

So more terrain would be great, and I've heard more rumours about that Indomitable Fortress thing from the PS book actually being released... so who knows.
The Indomitable Fortress can be easily made from two or more Bastion kits, a Razorback Twin lascannon Turret, and the Castellan missile noses from the Whirlwind or some other suitable missile system. It's so sweet how the Bastions and Aegis line are so compatible with existing turrets. I'm planning on buying a few more Bastion kits.
WarsmithMorgoth wrote:I bet its the long-rumored plastic Thunderhawk.
Years ago they released a metal thunderhawk in a wooden box for something like $1,000 as a special edition collectors dealie.
Yeah, they made three of them for a Gamesday during Second Edition days to complement their Chapter of the Ultramarines for one of their first huge dioramas. I guess they decided to put the molds to good use by cranking out 300 or so. They sold 250 of them to the public and gave away a bunch of them until they wore out the molds. I've also got the instruction manual for it. I can't imagine building a box out of pewter...I can't remember what they did for a flying base, but if a flying base can't handle Sammael on a jetbike, I'm sure it wouldn't last long with 25 pounds of pewter on top of it..

I know you can do an approximation of the Indomitable Fortress using standard PS stuff, but I'm talking about the actual kit they showed in the PS book.
And yes, the compatabilty with current turrets is beyond awesome. You can take one of the ground-based Lascannons or Quad-Cannons and swap them with any Razorback TL-Las, HB or Assault Cannon. Instant Tarantulas!!!

Just new designs of GW's own hand to help and make the Nine more diverse. The novels only speak of the Witch King and Khamul the Easterling IRC, so GW did their own take on the other kings. They also made up the names for them along with the armour / clothing designs. The Tolkien foundation gave them a green light on these designs.

They can use any info about a character directly mentioned in the main texts and introductions of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings or added by the movies. They also have access to some of the stuff added by Iron Crown Enterprises when they had the license (even though Saul did not actually have those rights to give to New Line but the movies used elements that I.C.E. created anyway). They can add characters as they please (within limits and they still have to have approval) and can add new material to existing characters/creatures such as building up the Ringwraiths into actual characters instead of them staying nameless/backgroundless boogiemen. They do not have access to any material created by Christopher Tolkien (this includes Unfinished Tales and The Silmarillion) nor most of the info in the appendices of The Return of the King.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
GW's license is through the movie release and they only bought the rights to the books previously mentioned. every book and/or country/region they release stuff in costs money.

I dunno, I always assumed there were nine ringwraiths, but now it seems like there's at least twice that number. Maybe they've just read a lot more Tolkien lore than I have or they're just pulling gak out of their ass to try and keep the game going.

There are 9 ringwraiths, it's just that GW has now given names to all 9, instead of just 2 of them. Also given them special rules etc. just added a bit more flavour to everything really.

Now these t-shirts are appearing at GW stores I'm starting to think there is no 'mystery box'. Can just see GW turning round on the day and saying 'We never said anything about a mystery box it was all on those rumour-mongering sites, stick with our official web-site and know the facts NOT rumours.' Or something along those lines...

Mystery box is probably just a fancy way of selling off all the returned vacuum formed terrain.
On a more serious note... I heard what I considered an unreliable rumor that sounds a bit like this. That GW was considereing bundling (in box) and selling as a pre-release a number of items set to come out in the month following the boxes sale. Making this a sem-regular occurance and a means to get some items early.
Wild sepculation... thunderhawk, because if we say we believe in a plastic thunderhawk it will come true.

No way is it a plastic Thunderhawk!
They absolutely would not limit themselves in selling that thing, as the cost to get it up and running would be rather high.
Which, in turn, is why I think well see a plastic Warhound before we see a plastic Thunderhawk.

what makes a plastic warhound so much easier to do than a plastic thunderhawk? I think they'd equally be a tough kit to make, especially because they might want to make a warhound a bit posable and that will require more pieces for joints, etc.
Although I do have a feeling one of the big reasons FW started selling weapons separately is so that they can be ordered for the plastic one some day

Now I wish I hadn't been joking around again by saying thunderhawk. Coming from someone with background in plastic mould design, me, I can easily say a thunderhawk would be easier than a Warhound. That said I don't believe its anysort of large scale model. They would be hyping it 3 months ago if it were.
The mystery box just strikes me as something not all that worthwhile.

What's the reason behind this?
Saul Zaentz bought most of the rights to The Hobbit/ LotR in 1976, before Christopher started adding/adding to the other works. If I remember correctly, Chris did not like what happened with the Bakshi film and so would not sell rights to the new stuff.
The appendices were lost because of some goof up with rights before Tolkien died (if I remember correctly) and was part of why the copies of the LotR in the 70s have notices about buying official copies or similar (at work, so I can't get the actual text).
Some of the I.C.E. materials were "added" when Saul's group basically caused the old I.C.E. to go bankrupt to get back certain rights I.C.E. took over so the movies could be made.
Maverick, I thought GDG was on the 16th.
