OK, well... until the "hammer of justice" came down, we'd only done my half of turn 1... so I'll do that now.

I don't have to take a pic of the table because nothing really changed... I'd formed a gun line (which I can't remember doing under the current set of rules) so I kept my behinds right where they were so all my "heavy" weapons could fire. There was a lot to be concerned about... the burna's and Ghaz could be in my face on turn 2, not to mention the banshees, with close support supplied by the two huge boyz mobs and the dire avengers. And I didn't want those pesky vypers roaming freely around the table popping my dreads.

So, starting from my left... my first priority was to disembark Ghaz and the burnas. This was facilitated by some very lucky rolling on the part of one of my fire support dreadnoughts, which hit, penetrated and blew up the battlewagon with a lascannon shot, killing 3 burnas in the blast. Telion and the two sniper squads on his flank then opened up on the surviving passengers, killing 3 more and putting a wound on Ghaz. On the eldar side, one of the scout squads opened fire on the Vypers, stunning them. The dev's fired at the Wave Serpent, knocking out the main turret (but certainly not what I had hoped for). The remaining snipers and the sternguard opened up on the pathfinders, hoping to hit the eldar where they were weakest... scoring units... and in spite of the pathfinders great cover save in the ruins... 2 went down to the concentrated fire (sternguard rounds that ignore cover help considerably).

Just one shot to share... Ghaz and burnas looking rather forlorn in the crater left by the exploding Battlewagon. Great crater by-the-way... made by Dugg. Comes in 3 sizes (LR, Rhino & Dred) and the rims are made so that you can easily stand guys up on them... really makes them useful as gaming aids, and the look great on the tabletop!

I apologize for the condition of the burnas & Ghaz, they were all either picked up off the net with no time to re-paint, or hastily assembled for 'Aard Boyz. They'll be finished by the next battle report.

No problem Dugg. Love my craters! So does Ghaz... they've saved his butt in two battles so far (vs. Nids and SM). He seems to have a recurring issue with "compulsory disembarkation".

@Munch: Those figs are sooo old! You're not going to make me show pic's of them are you? I can't stand my Eldar paint scheme... it's changed like... 3 times and I've never liked any of them. *sigh* I'll show the wave serpent, banshees, scouts & the wraithlord (which isn't mine... but is a beautiful model). The rest of them can stay small and blurry.

Do you think you might be motivated to go back to eldar and work on that army any due to the new Fire Prism and sentry guns, plus Spearhead?

Also, have you tried blue?

Actually I picked up a few nicely painted eldar figs over the last few months that all have that kind of teal blue color in common, and I really like them.. So I think I'd go with that. Problem is that I'm trying to paint up a huge ork army for my 6-year old (and myself), help the 9-year old paint his army, and am completely trying to re-build my Mantis Warrior space marines, which I'm very passionate about... so there's no room for re-doing my Eldar right now. Maybe if I can find a painting service that's not too expensive that can paint them to a decent standard (I can always gussy them up down-the-line when I have time) I could work towards finishing them up, but at the moment I just don't have to time to deal with them.

I've never liked the Eldar vehicles as they're stupidly designed as models (top heavy, unbalanced, easy to tip over and break, turrets fall off constantly), add to that their relative uselessness as troop transports (way too expensive & only one rear access point) and there just isn't much incentive for me to work on them. I have a few of the official GW versions (1 falcon, 1 fire prism & 1 FW doom weaver) but I hardly ever use them because the models are just so impractical that it ticks me off to look at them.

Given that the essential design hasn't changed in the new models (so my objections still stand), I like the Fire Prism's new turret minus the crystal at the end of the barrel... but I'm not inclined to put any of my other projects aside to buy one & work on it. I used to love playing Eldar, they were my main army for a decade or more (RT - 3rd Ed), but now they just kind of bore me... the creative and gaming options with other armies are just so superior that I don't want to spend any time on them.

I actually quite like the old models. It's a nice 'lil look back at the past for us recent gamers. The old models are actually what got me into the hobby.

Actually the aspect warriors of varying sorts I did spend quite a bit of time on. The rangers just got a basic paint job, but I think my color choice was pretty good so even though they're simple, they look decent. It's the stuff that I'm not showing, (vehicles, guardians, avatar, my wraithlords and war walkers) that stink. I have two nicely painted phoenix lords I'd be willing to show (that I did), but other than that they're only table painted... and rather crudely at that.

OK, here they are...no great shakes I assure you. I must have done these before I discovered washing or how to do jewels... or practically anything else. So... these aren't really indicative of how I paint now... but I suppose they're good "historical pieces". I remember them being better than this... that was the image in my mind anyway. Funny how time and your perception changes things.

Well now those arn't terrible. You seem to underestimate yourself. All I can offer is that the striking scorpion seems alittle busy. It's hard for me to really focus on one part of the model at a time.

@Munch: Yeah... Kharandras probably needs stripping & re-painting... your observation is a good one. Not sure when I was going with him. Feugan I think could benefit from a dilute sepia wash on the yellow scale armor... but other than that he's not too bad off. Was blending pretty well with him.

So, the boys were good at school and at home for the rest of the week so I let them off the hook for 40k a couple of days early. Part of the "ban" was that I refused to work on anything of theirs during this period. But... I'd promised to work with the younger one and build him an objective marker for his orks. He had an idea for a crashed deffkopta... and since I had one I'd chopped up for bits, I was happy to do it. So, this is Thing 2's idea, I'm just the facilitator... though having one of the stray rotor blades take off an arm was my idea. This is just a rough "sketch" of the build, I'll paint everything first, then assemble the kopta on the base, then add more rock and torn up ground to finish it off.

I agree I like the Fuegan he has some nice blending. I once painted a Khrandaras in a dark green and gold which came up pretty nice, course I have no idea what colours he is supposed to be.

Well, if they'd been "fun fighting", they might have just gotten chewed out... but there was no fun in this, they were clearly mad and trying to hurt each other, and when I got back in the car and let them know what they were in for neither one protested... they knew they were guilty as charged.

YAY! I'm reassembling two wraithlords at the moment (mix'n'matching an old and a new). I am still debating whether to replace the old wraith head with the old zoanthrope armour (like this one). I think if painted well it will look like that good mix of craftworld and dark (IE. It will fit well in an exodite/harelquin/less-puritan eldar army). I just don't know whether it suits my army.

Your army(s) look great! I can see the kids overtaking you soon though...

I'm not sure, but as long as they're not screaming "For the Emperor!" or "Blood for the blood God!" while their pounding on each other I guess we're OK.
