Whalemusic is on to something here... I don't feel like painting a whole bunch of imperial guard, and you could makes some cash punishing your sons. Oh never mind this has sweat shop written all over it.

Your grounded, now go to your room!
Maybe instead of taking away 40k you should make them paint 2000 points in a week. That'd teach em good!

I told my older son about this and he laughed and laughed....
Laugh while you can monkey boy.... why do you think I've been showing you all these painting techniques??
He's already talking about a second army. I squished that impulse, but said that after he got done painting his doom eagles, he could move on to something else (but he would have to buy the figures himself). So I think we'll write up a 3k list based largely on what he has already and my unused marine hand-me-downs... then when that's all done, he can move on to something else if he wishes.... like maybe MY eldar.

@lorana: Not a bad idea, though he has bought some of his own figures... so he does have things that are not hand-me-downs. When he (the eldest) first got started I actually tried to dissuade him from playing marines because we already had an SM army in the house... but no... he wanted a marine army. Thing is he's young, and all his young friends are either playing mek guard or have jumped on the BA bandwagon... so he's got visions of flying tanks and pie-plates dancing through his head and he's getting rather envious.

@MonkeyMarine: At the moment the kids are still "grounded" from 40k, I'm sure work will resume on his ork nob soon after the ban is lifted.

Well done to your sons, too, great to see some works by imaginative and enthusiastic kids.

They'll be off the hook soon enough. Might start by posting Sunday's battle report between my kids and the friend who got me started in 40k. After that get's their juices flowing, I'm sure they'll both be excited to get back into painting their figures!

My son did help a little with painting my craters last week. I painted up 8 sets of my combo sets, 32 craters for the Ard boy tourny last week.
I had my friends use them to show them off. It went well.
I ended up getting 5th in the tourny. I was only 3 kill points away from taking 3rd and going to the semi's, 3rd thru 5th was that close. I would of had those points if I could of taken out 1 more Space Marine that was holding an objective, I killed 4 out of 5. .....1 dang Marine.

@Dugg Very cool... I'm always amazed that once my boys reached the age that they could actually "help" do stuff (painting, housework, etc...) that they could really contribute. And when they're young, they actually *want* to help too... double bonus! Glad things went well for you regarding your craters at 'Aard Boys, speaking of which... did I remember to pay you for my second order? Can't remember... PM me please?

Seeing your 2ed plastic terminators painted and looking good inspires me. I have 4 of them sitting in a box where they have been for over 10 years. I always thought they were poorly sculpted and wouldn't look good even painted. But you have shown me otherwise. Going to have to paint them now.

I'm glad they helped you make up your mind. To be honest, they turned out much better than I thought they would as well. We just got some good advice and followed it. I just figured... hey, the kid wants terminators, and these are free. After that it was just a matter of trying to make the look good, and the good folks on dakka helped out with that. Win-win.

I think the 2ed terminators have surpassed the 3rd edition ones after seeing this. The 2nd ed have retro appeal now, whereas the swivel-armed 3rd edition look antiquated.

I appreciate everyone being patient whilst justice is meated out to those two ner-do-well sons of mine.
I promised you a battle report though. The game will be on sunday but I set up the table today... so here's a little teaser.
This is a four by eight foot table. As you can see we use woods that are more representative of woods, rather than a couple of scraggely trees like you typically see on gaming tables now a days. At the moment the battle is shaping up into four people, 1500 points per person, orks vs. marines.

@FinchClaw: I'ts a lake. Cut the shape out of the plastic that you use to reflect the light from overhead fluroescent lighting. The top is textured and kind of "wavy", so I just painted the bottom.
@Dugg: Well, our new table was made on a 4 x 8 piece of plywood, so in a 2 on 2 battle like this one we can use all 8 feet. Under normal circumstances we can mark off a 6-foot section and play on that, but to be honest I like a bigger table even in a 1 on 1 game... more movement, maneuvering and strategy... less static gun lines. Especially if you put some objectives around that force people to spread out a bit.
