Thanks Warboss_Waaazag, and welcome

In the aftermath of the 13th Black Crusade the Lost Companies, having suffered incredible casualties defending the Cadian Gate, retired from Imperial space to replenish their strength. They discovered a system of nine habitable worlds orbiting a binary star, and a mineral-rich asteroid belt that provided a natural shield to the system. Evidence of previous Imperial settlement was abundant, from the ruined defences found on many asteroids and most planets to the debased human populations of 6 of the planets. While they were portioning out the system to the respective factions, a massive force of the Steel Brethren Chaos warband assaulted them. The Wolfbrothers took the brunt of the fighting, alongside Urd Clansmen and Taghmata Hvergelmir detachments. The battles raged for nearly a century, but finally the Steel Brethren were repelled. To counter such aggression in the future, a dedicated force of warriors was formed. Known as the Wolf Shield, it was composed of veteran Space Wolves and was equipped to the highest standards the Taghmata Hvergelmir could craft.

These are my first Wolf Shield warriors; terminators armoured in highly advanced Tartaros pattern armour. I plan for the entire Wolf Shield, however large it might (will) grow, to be armoured in either Mk IV or Tartaros armour.
Rules-wise, I'm using the Archangels Orbital Intervention force for my Terminators, since the idea of them teleporting in and unleashing hell as they re-appear is just amazing

So, looking back through the old 13th Company stuff I have, I came across an old Apocalypse formation, Sternhammer's Wulfen Guard. Basically, a Wolf Priest and a number of Wulfen packs. I felt that was necessary, given you can now get Wulfen packs once more.

So, Champions of Fenris detachment that gives me 8 Elites slots full of Wulfen of course, with Wolf Priests to lead. The leader of this force will be Kodlak Sternhammer, built off the collector's edition Chaplain and wearing the Armour of Asvald Stromwrack. Pics to follow, with a full army list too

Sounds good. Was there any fluff with the old Apoc formation?

Hey EDC, there was indeed. I can't find the datasheet online anymore, so I'll write it out:

The legend of the 13th Company of the Space Wolves is one never told outside of the Chapter itself. Even then, it is only whispered in private, lest the young Blood Claws overhear lore not meant for their ears.
The 13th Company of the Space Wolves Legion is said to have fought at the forefront of the greatest battles of the Horus Heresy. Every brother of the Legion bore the mark of the Canis Helix- the beast that lurks within every Space Wolf. In the warriors of the 13th Company however, the mark was fully manifest, turning the noble brethren into slavering beasts on the eve of battle. At the height of the terrible conflict, the entire company disappeared, pursuing, it is said, some foe they would hunt until the end of time, rather than allow it to escape.
After the heresy, the 13th Company passed into dim legend. The Canis Helix remained the source of the Chapter's ferociousness, yet was never as fully manifest as it was in the 13th Company. In recent times the legend of the 13th Company has resurfaced. Tales have been told of a band of savage warriors, wearing the grey armour of the second legion, yet supplemented by fragments of armour torn from the bodies of fallen Chaos Space Marines. This band has been seen to emerge as from nowhere upon the field of battle, falling upon the servants of the Ruinous Powers with savage ferocity. They are led by a mighty warrior-priest, named the Sternhammer by the Imperium's troops, an individual reportedly able to control the beasts in combat, though barely. After each battle, the band has disappeared before stunned Imperial forces could make contact. Many have reported being glad of this fact, for the beasts appeared as ready to attack them as the enemy.
None can say whether this band truly is some vestige of the long-lost 13th Company, or even if it is the same band that has been seen in each instance. Yet, where the forces of the Imperium are hard-pressed by the Great Enemy, there too may the mournful howls of the Wulfen pierce the night, shilling the hearts if friend and foe alike

To add to that wall of text, some fluff of my own:

The title of Sternhammer is grant to the Wolf Priest entrusted with the stewardship of the Lost Companies'Wulfen. Originally the sobriquet of the Wolf Priest Gonnar Donnarson of the 13th Company, the title, along with Donnarson;s signature weapon, were passed to Donnarson's chosen successor upon his death. He, in turn, passed the relic and title onto his successor, and so on until the present encumbent, Kodlak Sternhammer, the fifth to bear the title, The list of Sternhammers is as follows:

Gonnar Donnarson: High Wolf Priest of the 13th Company during the Great Crusade, Donnarson was known as Sternhammer for his grim visage and the short-handled power hammer he wielded in war. Donnarson accompanied the 13th Company to Prospero, and was sent by Russ to harry the traitor Thousand Sons into the Warp. He was mortally wounded by a daemon prince of Tzeentch and his body carried from the field by his Wolf Guard. His bones are interred in the deepest crypts of Hjerim; the Rogue Trader ship that serves as the base of operations for the Wulfen Guard.

Jon Crowfeast: A Wolf Priest only a few years junior to Donnarson, Jon was singled out by the High Wolf Priest for his ability to control and direct the fury of the Wulfen. He served as Sternhammer for over 2 centuries following Donnarson's death, outliving 3 proteges. He was shot down defending a bastion against Rubric Marines, and the recovery of his body took many years and no few great feats to achieve. His bones are interred in Hjerim's cryots alongside his mentor.

Alvaresh Godspite: The thrid Sternhammer was the first to not be drawn from the 13th Company, instead coming from a lost Company. A brash and arrogant individual, he held the post for only a few years before before he was slain by a lord of Khorne. His armour and weapons were recovered, but his skull is still held by the Khornate champion. Many packs seek its return.

Idolaf Skywolfr: The fourth Sternhammer was from the 13th Company,. and was recovered from an unnamed daemon world. Many of his packmates had been slain by the daemon world's inhabitants, and only the arrival of Jorek Greatwolf and his forces ensured the survival of the remaining Space Wolves. Idolaf knew Jorek of old, when the latter had been but a Blood Claw, and it was on his urging that Idolaf took up the vacant mantle of Sternhammer. Uniquely, Idolaf did not die before passing on the title, and indeed still serves the Wulfen Guard, but his protege Kodlak had greater control over the Wulfen than he so he stepped down. Idolaf's presence has been noted to increase the aggression of Wulfen and Space Wolf alike, and assaults led by him are nigh impossible to defend against.

Kodlak the Hunter: The current Sternhammer possesses many of the qualities that first earned Donnarson his name, and the Wulfen both respect and fear their gruff keeper.
Kodlak once led massed assaults of Lost Company Wulfen, but when the Space Wolves Chapter gifted some of the recovered 13th Company to Jorek's Lost Companies he took personal command of them, and now only deploys alongside these mutant brothers
.

And for your viewing pleasure, Idolaf Skywolf

He needs a dust and rebase, and possibly a touch-up. I built him to use as Astorath the Grim back in 5th ed, planning a Death Company army of converted Wulfen that I never got around to. With the new Lost Brotherhood force in Angel's Blade, I feel it's time Idolaf Skywolf was re-introduced to the battlefields of the far future

Also, Kodlak the Hunter, the leader of my current Champions of Fenris Wulfen force. He's a Wolf Priest with the Armour of Asvald Stormwrack.

Also, to aid Idolaf Skywolf in controlling the Wulfen Guard, he has taken to deploying his protege's en masse, each given charge of a squad or so of Wulfen brothers. These nascent warriors are not truly Wolf Priests, and are called by Idolaf his War Priests. THis young warrior, once a Skyclaw, wears ornate relic armour as reward for some great deed.
In-game, he counts as a Death Company Chaplain with the Reliquary Armour relic.

So, following along from (or in front of?) the 13th Back Crusade, a daemon beast of Nurgle I painted up to represent a mutant Herald on Palanquin, and a Stormraven that was recovered from a warband of Relictor renegade marines. I'm going to add some more bitz to it, to represent hasty battlefield repairs. Most of these will be spare chaos vehicle sprue bits. I'm not sure, yet, whether to put it with the Wulfen Guard (Blood Angels rules), the Bone Gnawers of Arnbjorn Red Moon (Chapter Tactics: Executioners) or the Firewolves of Erik Firewolf (Chapter Tactics: Salamanders)

Thanks Shasó! It is pretty odd. I have 2 of them. I'll post some pics of my entire daemons force a bit later

A new kitbash I came up with today (when I should really be focused on finishing existing projects) is a Grotesque for my Stormblood Thralls force. They're a Haemonculus Coven, rules-wise; with Khorne Bloodbound standing in for Wracks (Genetically engineered hyper-resilient Thralls). For their Grotesques I was stumped for a bit, but the head of a Fyreslayer on the body of an Orruk Brute seems sufficiently feral and weird and fits in with the look of the Talos/ Cronos engines which are Minotaur or Stormvermin bodies with Ogre heads. The pic's a bit out of focus, but you should get the general idea

Questions/ comments/ thoughts/ suggestions/ free puppies welcome!

Some more work; a Grotesque with Flesh Gauntlet and Close Combat Weapon, and an Aberration with Close Combat Weapon and (soon) Agoniser

Yeah Shasó, they certainly do! I need 20 of them... or thereabouts... Lucky that won't be too taxing to organise
I might have to redo their necks, however; the Orruk bodies have really large necks that are currently covered by the Fyreslayer's giant beards, but from the side it looks a lot like the neck grows into the beard. I might move the heads and re-sculpt the necks at the top of the shoulders and not jutting forward like they are now

Slowly working on the 2 Demi-Jotun I built the other day. For reasons, either warp-related or simply cosmic inertia, I can't find the other body to build another (I bought a box of 5 Orruks, turned 2 into Thunder warriors, built 2 Demi-Jotun and....)

Mainly fixing the giant hole in the back where the orruk armour is supposed to go. I've decided to leave the neck, as you have to look closely at the model to see it and they look alright from tabletop height. So with and without greenstuff:

Then suddenly I saw it. With only a slight churning to mark its rise to the surface, the thing slid into view above the dark waters. Vast, Polyphemus-like, and loathsome, it darted like a stupendous monster of nightmares to the monolith, about which it flung its gigantic scaly arms, the while it bowed its hideous head and gave vent to certain measured sounds. I think I went mad then.

Yeah Shaso they're pretty buff... They're for a portion of the army that's universally unarmoured and built so they should fit right in

Started on the first coat, still need a couple more to get a smooth colour then I'll wash highlight etc etc

Something a little new today; a terminator Apothecary for Höd Grimmursson's Grand Company, one of the many planned Lost Companies. Rules-wise it'll be a Dark Angels Lion's Blade force (heresy, I know) with this guy forming part of a Deathwing command squad. All the others in the squad will be Cataphractii, while the basic soldiers will be MkIII Marines

Part of this mornings insomniac building, this Stormhawk Interceptor will add some air support to the primarily land-bound Wild Hunt. I'm thinking either wolves or a fanged mouth across the front, but no bones or furs on the outside; it's an orbital craft after all

And some further work on the Stormhawk; the white and black markings around the tail boom and engine nacelles represent that the pilot is a Long Fang; an unusual choice for a pilot but perfect for such a heavily armed craft

So I was reading through Fall of Cadia when I came across these snippets:

Spoiler:
"Savaged Adeptus Astartes Battle Companies- sometimes reduced to little more than a handful of squads- took their place in the defences, their colours and heraldry bright..."

"...Near two hundred battle-brothers of the Adeptus Astartes embarked the Firemane's Fang. Only fifty-eight hailed from Sven's own brotherhood. Others came from companies that had been torn asunder during the invasion, lone battle-brothers and shattered squads determined to strike one last blow..."

This got me thinking about a mixed Astartes army, and how it would give me an opportunity to paint a variety of different colour schemes and units not typically found amongst the Wolves. So I went looking through my spare marines....

These are just the spare Terminators I have

26 assembled Terminators, and parts to make at least 6 more. I also have over 30 power armoured marines I can't use for my Wolves. Mostly, these are the Blood Angels from Space Hulk and the Dark Angels from Dark Vengeance, but there's a few other Chapters in there, including a Soul Drinker, a Black Dragon, some Lamenters, Hawk Lords and others.

The idea is a Gladius, using the Terminators as a 1st Company Task Force, the Librarians (4 and counting) as a Librarius Conclave, and a minimum-strength (for now) Battle Company. To represent their experiences against Chaos, and the amalgamated nature of their command, I'm planning on using the Forgeworld Chapter Tactics for the Red Hunters. This means everything gets Adamantium Will, and once per game I can give a number of units equal to the game turn a single special rule

Let me know what you think; any Marine players give me pointers?

Some more work on Hod Grimmursson's Grand Company today, Tovar, Captain of the Guard. Hod's lieutenant, bodyguard, and commander of the Wolf Guard forces of the Company. Rules-wise, Belial of the Deathwing. He's the plastic Cataphractii Praetor from Betrayal at Calth, with the sword from the Forgeworld Cataphractii Praetor and a Chaos Warrior head. His left arm has been replaced with a part from the Dwarf engineer Grimmm Burloksson, and will have a Space Wolf storm bolter added later

Grimursson's Wolves see themselves as guardians, and wear the heaviest wargear available to them to fulfill their need to outlast the foe and defend those weaker than them. While Hod left the Fang after a fight with the incumbent Great Wolf many centuries ago, age and experience has tempered his rage and arrogance. While still a proud warrior, he sees greater honour in defending those unable to help themselves than in vainglorious hunts and boasting. His Company are all long-fanged veterans; sure of eye and even of temperament.

Did some work on the remaining members of the command squad started with the Apothecary a few weeks back. I've gone with uniquely Deathwing units for the squad, so a Sergeant, Standard Bearer and Champion, while the last guy carries a plasma cannon. They're very very early work yet, but the Halberd of Caliban will be a heavy frost axe, and the banner held by the standard bearer will be off the Forgeworld Space Wolf Venerable Dreadnought

And before I forget, a Perfidious Relic of the Unforgiven. Because who doesn't like Adamantium Will and Fear? All the Relics in this army will be represented by ravens, for added Norse

A bit more work on Grimmursson's Company; almost completed Lord Grimmursson himself and added a standard to the command squad from yesterday. Grimmursson counts as Azrael, with the double ravens his Watcher in the Dark

I'm thinking I'll use this as the Deathwing banner
