I'm doing water affects in the canal. If it was larger I would have left it open to make play easier. If I ever expand the table I'll go into an H pattern and leave open space.

I have a drawer full of those parts, and some Necromunda stuff made out of them. I have a train store a block from my house and every now and then I go and buy up his used bridges.

Last time I heard anyone mention "HO train" was in college.

Any news on your Guard? I'd recommend Victoria Miniatures or Mad Robot Miniatures for good third party bits. Both seem to have been around a while, 'cause theres loads of variety. Parts from both sites work with each other, though MRs bits are chunkier on average.

I also figured out how I'm doing the monorail track. By adding some 1" steal strips to the top of the old realm of battle sidewalks I hope I can add support but also create a surface I can magnetize the train to and allow it to be moved.

This is exactly the sort of thing I want but will never have.

Good luck finding one of those. FW's old terrain is amazing, but was ridiculously expensive even before it went OOP.

Agreed. There were just 2 on eBay. Neither one sold. I was willing to go pretty high but was still short of their asking.

For as much as my wife would like to think, I really didn't get much time to model this weekend. The time I did get I spend trying to layout and cut stairs from foam board because A) I need a bunch and B) the cast I made were terrible

I finally figured out where the look I had stuck in my head for my planetary guard came from. I don't know if I said it out loud but I wanted guard that had military fatigues with some sort of midevial chest armor with the imperial Aquila or something on it.

I was thinking about Rouge trader guard from my childhood the entire time. Granted the helmets are awful, this is pretty close.

Does anyone know how well the scale holds up to current guard? Was thinking I'd figure out a way to get a bunch of the chest pieces and mix those in with standard Cadian Shock Troops legs and arms. Maybe different helmets still

Most normal guardsmen get flakk armor.

those chest pieces are usually for upper rank.

nothing stopping you from using those and making something even fancier for the upper rank.

The Empire Greatsword chest pieces would work great for what you are looking for.

The tempest scions are probably the kit you want, they are 40k and have that basic armor type.

You can always find alternate heads for them if you like and the chest pieces have plenty of flat space for freehand or small decals.

Thanks guys. I'm on holiday for a few weeks so I won't be getting anything done on the city. Just been thinking about our eventual defenders and what army might be attacking the city. Probably doesn't matter as most people will use their own but in my mind the inhabbitants are a very formal/religious planetary guard and the attackers will be some kind of medieval siege army meets dark mechanicus / traitor guard.

Those greatsword pieces are a good idea dirronjay. There are a few that I think could represent a different planet crest for sure

I agree with theophony too. The scions look exactly like what I'm describing and are the easiest choice. A while back i converted a few scions to try and make Templar neophytes. They are pretty close to what I'm going for now actually. I think the heads and spears work too. Might just need a helmet option that could mix in with the existing face grill
