Very nice retrospective. You do amazing work on a wide variety of minis. Great job!

I'm glad that you're enjoying it. It's been quite enlightening going back over the last 12 months' worth of models, as I've forgotten doing a lot of them.

My number for July were way down. I painted up a squad of Crimson Devils for Warzone, and finished off the Tiger Corps for Mars Attacks! I don't actually play either game, but the models are useful in any number of SF settings.:
Spoiler:

August was more SF, including a few Broken that I did for the painting comp, a few robots for fun, and some Alternative Armies levies because one always needs more dudes with rifles. I also cranked out some 40K barricades and a landing pad made from a recycled plastic container:
Spoiler:

September started with some classic Jes Goodwin Chaos Warriors (which won second place in the painting comp), some Deadzone Enforcers, and a couple of Barbarian wizards assembled by my son and then painted by me.
Spoiler:

October started with more Deadzone, this time Enforcer Pathfinders with heads from Puppetswar. I followed up with some Oldhammer Judge Dredd models, and then some Blackwater Gulch models. I also painted up a wrecked resin car that I got with my Mars Attacks! Kickstarter, and some more recycled terrain:
Spoiler:

November was pretty scattershot, with models for Deadzone, some Oldhammer goodness, and a few more Blackwater Gulch models:
Spoiler:

And finally, in December I pretty much stuck with Deadzone, with a guest appearance by some Space Cops and a few more recycled buildings:
Spoiler:

I ended up with a final model count of 133 plus some miscellaneous stuff. While that's not a huge number, I have enough models to field pretty much anything I would want in any of the systems I actually play, which frees me up to just paint whatever I feel like on any given day. Thinking ahead for the new year, I think I'll be scatchbuiling some straight ruined walls (as opposed to building corners) for Frostgrave, as well as helping my son with the Veer-myn I got him for Christmas. After that, I'll just keep following my muse.

Thanks to everyone who reads and comments on this blog. Your feedback gives me a little dopamine rush which keeps me coming back to the painting table. I hope to see you all in 2022!

Thanks. We're back on a Frostgrave kick thanks to the new supplement, but I have plans for a lot more DZ stuff as well.

Thanks, JoeRugby! The mask is a little rough seen up close, but it works at arm's length.

Happy New Year to you, as well. Variety is they spice of life, as they say.

It's quite liberating to not have to worry about getting an army finished. And speaking of an interesting mix, here are my first models of 2022-- Chaos Familiars!

I pulled these guys out of the box of unpainted Chaos models with the intention of painting them up, but they got pushed aside in favor of something else and then forgotten. I came across them as I was tidying up my painting station, and then just sort of cranked them out. I have dozens of models in and around my painting area, so I think I'll try to finish up some old projects alongside whatever I decide to start in the coming months.

Thanks. I think the jester is my favorite of this bunch, but the walking book was fun to paint.

Thanks. Your end-of-year round up was pretty impressive, in both numbers and sheer diversity.

The descriptor "character" gets thrown around a lot, but I think it fits a lot of models from this era. None of these models really have an army list entry, but they add just a touch of wackiness to any army/warband.

DJJazzyJeff wrote:Incredible diversity and solid paintjobs all around. Best 2021 of anyone I know.

That's quite the compliment! I'll have to try to live up to it.

I made some walls for Frostgrave:

I already had a lot of corner pieces, but no straight walls. Now I can set up larger buildings with interior walls.

For the January Painting Challenge, I'll be tackling some Middlehammer Beastmen:

I'll be entering the shaman and the Khorngor for sure, and maybe 2-3 of the others if they turn out well enough..

Thanks for the kind words, everyone.

I think these guys are as finished as they're going to get:

I need to do something about my photo setup-- I just can't seem to get the light balanced-- photos are either too dark (like this set), or else washed out.

I like the look of your latest painted minis, Josh. I agree the pics are a little bit dark (still better than I do), but I actually like the effect of it being a little dark. The backdrop for your photos is looking especially like storm clouds in these pics which goes nicely, I think.

Thanks, everyone. I do love me some Oldhammer. Speaking of which:

I think these Beastmen qualify as Middlehammer rather than Oldhammer, but you get the idea. I'm not really a big fan of this era-- between the wackiness of the pre- Realms of Chaos era, and the Great Leap Forward in plastic sculpting. The command models are pretty alright, but the troops are workmanlike at best-- not terrible, but not outstanding, either. Also, I may have reached Peak Brown on these models. There isn't a single color without some shade of brown mixed in.

Next up, for my entry in the January challenge:

The guy on the left is Fettuchini, from Citadel's Judge Dredd line. The other two are Rogue Trader-era Mercenaries: Space-Dout Sam and No-face Fargo. Remember when every model got a name? I used to know the names of every Eldar pirate model. Now, they're all just "Dude with lasgun" and "Dude with mohawk and melta-gun." Anyway, the theme is Age Before Beauty, and these guys are all old and not particularly beautiful. Also, soft, slighty greasy-feeling lead, so it's a good thing I'm in the habit of washing my hands a lot these days...

This is probably the last Dredd model that I own, but who knows-- the Closet of Shame is deep and dark...

This quote pretty much sums up my hobby life-- a backlog that I need to get to. It makes for a lot of variety, at least.

January was before the State of Emergency was declared-- I wish we could go back to that.

I finished the first two models in my January pledge:

Fettuchini here has three eyes, so I guess he's supposed to be a Mutie, despite his tab reading perp. I tried to give him weird pink skin, but it just tured out like a really dark tan. Check out that shirt-- pulled up all the way to his nipples. I seem to remember cropped T-shirts being a thing back in the 80's, so maybe he's just fashionable...?

I wasn't sure what to do with No-Face Fargo until I decided he was wearing some sort of gas mask. Since he's obviously operating in a hazardous environment, I decided to put him in a hazmat suit:

There's one guy left in my original pledge, and I hope to have him done in a couple of days. That being said, I'm going to replace my origiinal pledge with these:

Classic banshees have become a sort of mini-comp, and I've decided to play along. I always loved these models, even if they underperformed on the tabletop. It'll be fun to revisit them and see if I can't do a better job on them than 20-year old me.
