from IGN.com US, April 18, 2008 - It started like any other videogame trailer. It was dark, there was some lightning, and slowly the words "This fall, worlds will collide and the fate of the universe shall be decided" began appearing on the screen. While the words popped up, Sub-Zero stomped Batman's head into the ground.
There is a God.
Remember those doodles in the margins of your seventh grade social studies notebook? They're coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this fall.....
Appearantly, this has caused a lot of fanboy uproar and mindless forum flaming. Personally, I think it's a great idea. I hope Bane's in it so that I can do the "Knightfall Fatalitly" .
your thoughts?

I think I'd actually read the Green Lantern comic if he
wasn't a spandex clad hero. The concept of a powerful
imagination being required to wield tremendous power
is cool.

As I understand it, there won't be Fatalities at all, which sucks.
Also, only Scorpion and Sub-Zero are returning. All of the other MK characters will be new.
Finally, I'm willing to bet that they'll fluff away the power differentials by setting most of the game in Outworld and saying it "depowers" some of the DC characters. It'll at least work on Superman, as there's no yellow sun.

What about Supes' actual inability to fight? All he ever does is punch people or fly into them at high speed, and if that doesn't work, he freeze breath or Heat visions them.

you got that one wrong. there will be NO new MK characters. Ed Boon recently said that the rooster will include 10 MK and 10 DC characters and every one of them should be "iconic".
So, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Bats and Supes are already confirmed, now let's see, who else is really iconic....
MK:
Jonny Cage, Goro, Sonja maybe? Who else is iconic in MK? Reptile? I'm afraid Bo Rai Cho won't be in it.
DC:
Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, the Flash (oh, I sooooo hope Flash's in it), Green Arrow, Hawk Man.
ohn and btw.: I would pay 60 bucks to rip Supermans head off.

Just the fact that you can even suggest that this MIGHT happen....makes this game stupid.
...and since fatalities are the only reason people play MK instead of Streetfighter (which is a better game strategically and tactically) it's likely that it will be a game feature.
well, I played Deadly Alliance for some time on the Game Cube and I thought it was a good beat-em up. No Soul Calibur, but there really was some good gaming under all that blood.

Whoops. Read that wrong, I guess.

No Bo Rai Cho? Well, they'd better have Shujinko!
Seriously, I expect them to have Raiden, Liu Kang (hopefully as a zombie still), Kitana, Shang Tsung, maybe Cyrax to represent the cyborgs, and Shao Khan or Goro for the big dumb and ugly type.
DC will basically be the Justice League, with maybe Lobo or Darkseid thrown in. If they're going to weaken Superman, why not Darkseid, too?

Not only will I agree with you, but I'll go so far to say that Deception was also a really good title. The only thing is none of their new characters are as good as the old ones, and most of them flat out suck. Havik? Mavado? Kobra? They're just filler.

I'm downloading the latest version of MUGEN at the moment (1100 characters from every fighter of the last 30 years), and am looking forward to subzero vs ryu

SF seriously has tactics and strategy in it? The Capcom fighters I always pegged as the most button-mashery of the button-mashers, with the predominance of the "spin the joystick and hit all 3 punch / kick buttons" to use special abilities. The combo system is why I play MK games, though even that isn't more than getting the right sequence of buttons off. I think DoA may have the more in-depth and rewarding actual fighting IMO, with counters and all that jazz. Soul Calibur is up there for me too, but that's cause ...

Oh right, back on topic. Watched the trailer last night, not impressed. I'd much rather see 20 DCU dudes battle it out with the MK engine, just not interested in MK characters after so many years of them. Supes vs anyone is indeed fairly stupid, and the power level of many DC characters is off the charts in general, but I think a good time could be had with a little suspension of disbelief
And off topic again, I actually like GL :S

MUGEN finally finished so I got to try it out. I tried it years and years ago and it was ok, but now it is much better. It still feels like it has quite a way to go from being a refined, polished game and has a lot of bugs, but hey, any game where you can fight nude cammy (SSF2T) and nude mai (KOF) is ok in my book. I am a big fan of the Capcom vs SNK series and hope that the new MK game can hold up to it, though I never really liked any MK after MK2.
Streetfighter is fairly tactical as you need to learn the attacks of anyone you might come across and position yourself to counter accordingly (though button mashers can do ok quite often as well). Not quite the complexity of soul caliber style games which do that but also have full 3D and different stances, but still a lot more tactical (due to the larger number of combinations) than the MK games in my opinion.

When did Marvel vs. Capcom come out? Like ten years ago? Way to catch up DC... Maybe you guys should stop with Crisis this and Crisis that, but you probably won't.
Boon can't game design his way out of a wet paper bag.
This game will be terrible.
MK fans (who lets face it, don't like balanced, well designed fighting games or they wouldn't play MK) will be pissed because there will be not fatalities, also blood and gore reduced or gone.
DC fans will hate it because they prefer different game styles. (2d fixed screen fighters or 3rd person 3d POV scrollers).
I already hate this game because as soon as I saw the trailer i thought: If I can fatality batman i'll play it at least once...and soon found out that I couldn't.
(Yes I hate batman, he's the biggest rubber toughy this side of jenna jamesons bedside cabinet).
So, after E3 and Comic Con there's some new info for the title.
1. There will be blood (no Daniel Day Lewis though ). There will be battle damage (torn costumes, scars, scratches and grey skin after soul sucking). And the MK characters as well as the DC villians will have Fatalitys. Since DC Heroes don't kill, they will only have "Brutalitys", one was shown at E3 were Supes just kept hitting Scorpion on the head to piledrive him into the concrete.
2. There will be new features like freefall kombat, as seen in the first trailer and "klose kombat" where the camera zooms in to show moro close-up brawling.
3. Confirmed characters are:
Bats, Supes, the Flash, Shazam! (who is IMO totally useless with Supes on the same rooster), Catwoman, Green Lantern and the Joker.
Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Sonya, Jax, Shang-Tsung, Kitara and Liu Kang.
Personally, I really excited about this title. It doesn't seem too harmless and the battle damage looks pretty cool. Altough, with already 3 characters from Gotham, I'll doubt we'll see Bane
Oh, and btw. the reason because Superman can be beaten by the MK guys is....*drumroll*.....MAGIC!
Yeah, lame I know, but hey, if I can beat the crap out of Supes, I don't care why

They can beat up Supes for the same reason anyone can beat anyone in the MK Universe - the Eldar Gods bring everyone to a level playing field, hence Mortal Kombat.
A bizarre array of focusing mirrors and lenses turning my phrases into even more accurate clones of
You know how they had Reptile as a secret character in the first game? I really hope they do that again - for Aquaman.
I hope the Joker is the Jack Nicholson version. While I really enjoyed Ledger's version and consider it superior, death buzzers and deadly pranks are the only way to go for a fighting game.
