Hi
Though I frequently visited this forum during the last years (and who in the hobby doesn't?!), I actually never signed in or posted. And since I'm more of a collector and painter than a player by now I actually haven't got so much to say anyways.
However, today I'd like to show some pictures of my newest Guard project. Inspired by US Troops in the 80s:
Thanks for any comments!
Cheers
CC
Btw, not that I don't like Old Glory, but I'd rather show the Union Flag or St George's next to my name. Can anyone tell me how??

They're looking dead 'ard. You've done a GREAT job with the camo, and your details are picked out just right.
As for the flags, they're based off of your IP addy at the time of posting I believe. Legoburner can tell ya more.

Nothing against the Big Red One, but your troops would definately fight better if you went with a rendition of the Indian Head Division. SECOND TO NONE
Oh yeah, models look great by the way.

This makes me ashamed of my Imperial Guard army. They're not painted even close to this level!

Usually you only see Catchan troops in woodland camo paint schemes, it's nice to see something different. The paint job is simple but well done. Impressive!

WOW!! That is officially the best IG paint job I have ever seen. Seriously. WHen I first started guard I wanted to do this, but I knew it would take WAAAY to much time so I didn't. I cant believe what Im seeing. The camo job is impeccable. This is just amazing work.

Fantastic stuff. Welcome to Dakka. Can you tell us more about the modeling, are the heads from another company or are they converted?
How about the backpack?
I like the subtle addition of the handle to the lasguns. Really changes how they look.

very, very nice. you dont often see it done . One because its hard to do well esp on a large army like guard (folks just get burnned out) and two camo has a problem showing up right on a small scale. You have managed to do both. Well executed for sure. Thanks for sharing and welcome to Dakka

Thanks guys for your replies! They sure made me feel welcome
Most of the Guardsmen are srtaight out of the box and there are only little conversions to some hands and arms. Most noticeable the converted Bretonnian Men-at-Arms helmet for the Sarge and the greenstuffed cap for the Lt.
I love painting camo because it's actually great for lazy painters like me with not too much time at their hands. No need for a lot of layering, highlighting, etc...
Should you be interested I'm quite happy to provide a short tutorial on how I did it.
Here some more pics:

I've seen that desert patrol squad before elsewhere (not sure where though).
I love seeing folks take the time to put realistic camo schemes on their minis. I've done one myself with the three color desert scheme and it's hella time consuming, but well worth the effort!
I think possibly some well placed chipping on the weapons would add nicely to the feel. Thin lines of wear and tear around prominent edges and barrel ends.
Have you ever considered doing a camo tutorial? I'm sure by now you've got this stuff down to a science!

@grey_death: the desert guys have been posted @ WIP earlier this year..
I made a little tutorial for my Woodland Camo, hope you find it useful:
Black undercoat
Face with -Tanned Flesh
- Dwarf Flesh
-Elf Flesh
Scope lens -Mechrite Red
-Blood Red
-Blazing Orange
Uniform& Bodyarmour -Knarloc Green
Gloves, Pouches, Canteen, Webbing etc. -Russian Uniform (Vallejo)
Over all Black Wash (Chaos Black very heavily watered down), to create shading
Light camo stripes in -Green Grey (Vallejo)
Dark camo stripes on -Cam. Medium Brown (Vallejo)
Black camo stripes -Chaos Black+ Black Grey (Vallejo) 3:1
Bayonet Blade -Oily Steel (Vallejo)
Subtle highlightes for everything black (Rifle, Imperial Eagles, Belt Buckle, Canteen Lid, etc) -Black Grey (Vallejo)
Squad markings, base, done!
Took me just under an hour and imho certainly tabletop standard.
Camo rulez!
Cheers

Yeah, cool for sure. The picture are clean and a great help. I have a very large Tallarn army and all my camo is vrey close to the way you did yours. Can you beef up the discription of your steps ant though. You might want to do a little more detail about just where and and how you lay down your stripes. The "theory" of camo for lack of a better word. Do you cove @30% with your first stripes and are the the bigger of the 3, must the brown touch and follow the same general lines of the previous color. Are the balck always samller lines? Do you find your self going at it random or do you follow the same genral placement of the stripes on each model you do? See what I mean? Do I make any sense with this?

Now, show us the full platoon.
My IG are in camo, too, but they're more jungle-stripey.
