There, a question mark!

In the plastic Thunderhawk thread a mention was made of a plastic Stompa: "on the inside back cover [of the Apocalypse Reload book] there is a photo of three Ork Stompas, the middle Stompa is a plastic one to be released in January" and while I asked for a visual confirmation, it was quickly buried beneath other replies regarding ladies of ill reputation.

My question or request, can anyone dig up a visual confirmation of this?

Hi, cant confirm Im afraid.

But, even as an optimist when it comes to GW releases I just cant see this one, though I do hope Im wrong. Purely from a sales perspective I mean, surely it isnt going to sell anywhere near as much as the Baneblade due to its more limited appeal, ie only Orks can have it. Unless of course there has been some sort of massive uptake of the Ork dex that I have missed? Either that or GWs heavy investment in the design/production of plastic models has totally paid off and they can now do more limited appeal kits due to a reduced outlay. Still, I just cant see it.

The way I see it, Orks are going to have to wait on a Stompa, and if they get one, it'll cost more than the Imperial counterpart, due to the limited appeal.

Valkyrie / Vulture is next because it's 2 kits that share a lot of tooling, and support multiple armies: IG, Inquisition, and Imperial allies. It's a cool model.

Thunderhawk is under consideration because SM are popular, but it's a lot larger and limited to SM and only in Apocalypse, so the appeal is low.

Stompas don't even have SM-like appeal, so that's a real problem.

Well, inside the back cover of my copy of Apoc Reload is a picture of Ultramarines vs Tyranids, and opposite that is a Nurgle army, so that's at least one part of this rumour that's false.

EDIT: On the back cover outside is actually a picture of 3 stompas. The outside two are the ones from the first apoc book, but the middle one is closer in style to an old epic gargant. However, considering it has Imperial Guard Search Lights for eyes and makes heavy use of the old plastic star-style tank traps, I'd probably guess it's not a plastic kit.

Bummer.

I do think that Orks will see a rise in popularity in 5th edition though, so a plastic Stompa is an eventual possibility.

Did this third Stompa have a spiked ball and chain by any chance?

Nope, a little snippy Claw that I keep thinking is a Lifta-droppa.

Victory at Sea!

IIRC those Stomas were custom built. No confirmations on a plastic Stompa.

Blast. Id hoped someone would come back and tell us its true. Assuming the Thunderhawk and valk etc go ahead does anyone think we will see flyers for other races?

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

We dont need a stomp kit. we need 'modula bits to make large straight and curved plate sections. assorted big guns on a sprue and a lot of gubbins to add on all over. The kitv in itself need not be large, but indefinately combinable.

So for example theee curved bits can make the belly of a stompa, or the toe caps of a large gargant, or some shoulders etc.

The more kits the bigger the stompa, battlewagon gargant.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Honestly I think 'the rest of the Ork miniature line' is more important than a Stompa. That there's no battle wagon is just criminal...

Hi all,

It was me who originally mentioned the Ork Stompa in the Thunderhawk thread, I am at work at the moment and do not have the book in front of me but I was sure the picture was on the inside cover.

Either way, the photo was pointed out to me by a GW store manager who said that it was a plastic stompa, that he had seen the plastic sprue at an area meeting, that it would be showcased at games day in September and that it was to be released as part of 2nd Wave Orks in January.

The two stompas in the first apoc book were resin kits that were prototypes for a potential plastic stompa.

The problem was that when they analysed the kit for distribution onto sprues they worked out it would take twice as many sprues as the baneblade. And would therefore cost twice as much.

Unless they come up with a simpler design or can figure out a way of cramming more onto each sprue, plastic stompas are not happening any time soon...

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

OK, OK, good point!

I guess that, in my mind's eye, the Plastic Stompas completely screened and blocked (True) LOS to the Plastic Battlewagons.

So, yes!

Plastic Battlewagons first, then, whatever!

So, are Ork Battlewagons set to become to 40K5 what Eldar Wave Serpents were to 40K3?

It might stretch further back than that.

I mean, has GW ever had a plastic battlewagon?

At Baltimore Games Day they had pictures of the sprue layout for the new Battlewagon. I spoke at length with the head of the design dept there (Ted Williams who runs the sculptors) and he indeed said it was coming. Sometime in early 09 (like very early) according to him.

At least battlewagons are fun/easy to convert. Wave Serprents were not fun.

Not since the RT days. One crops up on eBay every now and agian, but, like the old Land Raider, they go pretty quickly.

So, pre-2nd edition?

There was a plastic Battlewagon out around 1990 or so?

There's a hole in the world it's a big black pit and it's filled with people who are filled with shi

I think it is time that other races got some kind of heavy armor. I play ImpG and have the baneblade, but i've never been able to use it due to the unballance of sides.

My friends play orcs, and the best thing they have to counter the leman russ or the chimera is the rokkit guys, which aren't that good.

So ya, the other races need heavy armor so that it can benefit the Imperial Players. Damn Right
