I have been watching the new show on HBO called generation kill. I've fallen in love with the idea of converting humvees for my IG. But I'm not a builder from scratch. So does anyone have any ideas? For rules I was thinking a fast wheeled vehicle with armor 10 all-round with sentinel weapon options.

The scale you want is 1:48 scale and a quick google search revealed plenty of 1:35 and 1:72 scale, but no 1/48, so you might want to check out your wal-marts, target's whatever for a toy that is the right size. I don't think it should be that hard.

I know you said you don't like to scratch built but the wheeled speeder is very easy and looks pretty cool

I heart SYR 8766

For all your bravado, if the US Army decided to invade, Wisconsin is it?, in force supported by a heavy bombing campaign for the month before, weeks of shelling from battleships on Lake Superior, and a full tank thrust (crushing the cows beneath the treads), I don't think that your .22 is going to make much of a difference really... Asmodai (my new hero)

At some point these sorts of decision-making skills lump you into the same camp as the Lehman Brothers, the White Star Line shipping company, and mothers who smoke during pregnancy.

The wheeled speeder is the way to go. That mod is just great.

Here is one I did a while back. I was able to make this using the speeder, tank spruce bitz, and some plastic card. It took me about 35 min to cut everything out, and about an hour to glue it all together the way you see it here. I did 4 of these in one day primed black. I don't have the step by step since my camera was with my wife at the time, but feel free to copy the idea if you like the end product. Also check out my how to on building the new Stormlord Super Heavy Tank. Its on this board somewhere. Later. Check out www.myhighschoollocker.com Thanks

That's gonna leave a pour spout, and the FLGS is so far away, WHY DO I HAVE TO SUPPORT IIIIIIIT?! </Rairty>

@ diablobats, nice, haven't seen an enclosed crew compartment conversion before

@ lanceradvanced, nice use of bike bits, that almost looks like it's amphibious.

As an ork player, I'm also very into the half-track idea, either for a warbuggy or armoured up as a looted wagon

They do exist, most are metal models made for wargamers in 28mm scale, such as the one here: http://www.theassaultgroup.co.uk/store/product.php?productid=633&cat=75&page=1

You can also get a 1:43 diecast model such as the ones from here: http://www.diecasts.biz/military.htm Cheaper, but harder to convert.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

I like the look of this build by Kendoka, seen here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/42819.page.

Looks appropriately 40K, and it's not a complete humvee copy.

Diablobats - sweet buggy, feels very guard.

I'd love to see fast open topped transport for small guard squads in the next codex. I've been watching generation kill too and I'd lover to have a scout portion of large army in lightly armored transports, maybe able to infiltrate or something.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

I play

Yeah the warthog is perfect in scale, I think it'd just need a healthy amount of bits to really bring it into the guard look.

If you want to spend the $$$$ to get the model/rules, there is the Centaur Artillery Transport from Forge World.. not a hummer style vehicle, but the rules match nicely..

LOL - not to disparage Kendoka's abilities (which I have mucho respect for), but that jeep looks like the old GI Joe Vamp or Cobra Stinger...

Huh. And there's a thought. Using Centaur Artillery Transport rules for a scratchbuilt Hummer...I'll have to give some thought to that.

Horray! People are referencing me.
@ diabolats, that is an amazing conversion. Mine cowers before it.
@ Lanceradvanded, I saw that before and tried to base my buggy off it. It is, again, much better than mine

For the buggy, I just use Salamander scout vehicle rules. Fast, open topped, although it has a limited arsenal. Anyway, salamanders should not be as big as chimeras.

they sell those at the hot topic up here. their way to small for 40k, a marine could pick it up and chuck it at you.

I find it very amusing that all the examples, despite being done by different people, are all based around the Land Speeder.

and thats why I use the oop speedersfor my marines. If guard do get a speeder, and for the scout speeder i'll make humvee's out of the plastic 'flying shoe box' speeders.
