I recently posted a topic at a small hobby forum and decided after reading the Codex SM rumors thread to repost it here
Now that I get properly back to the hobby and have time to reflect the past few years of hobby slumber, I must say, well done GW! You've done ever so well after the free fall a few years ago.
I was just re-reading the Apocalypse book, the pick of the bunch for me, and just drooling at the art, minis, terrain... The 5th ed rules are full of new fluidity and vigor and the army books after the CSm one have all been vast improvements to their predecessors, both in 40k and FB. And most importantly of all, the models, particularly the plastics are both in quantity and quality improving fast - and in metals we have seen some truly groundbreaking aesthetics, such as that of the winged Vampire.
Bravissimo!
I even hear rumors of hobby content WD instead of the docile sales catalogue.
Go GW!

But, but, but ...
Damn not one complaint about the evil, soul-less black-hearted GW in a thread. Wow, I didn't realise that was possible.
Oh, my bad. Thought I was reading Warseer or B&C for a second. (Hah!).
I really can't understand the venom expectorated at GW by some people. If they hate the game so much, why do they still play if all they're going to do is complain about it and do the whole "in my day ..." lark?
Well done, sir.

I think 5e is a really good turn around, but it's important that GW act reasonably fast to bring all the codices onto a approximately even keel. Some of the older ones (hello IG) are going to be hurting until that's done.
The plastics on the other hand are amazing - the new Dark Elves look great, and I'm impressed also with the quality of the characters and vehicles in the Black Reach box.

The trend is absolutely improving. GW has recognized some of their fundamental "issues" with vets and are taking actions to improve them. 5th seems to have improved the main game, and they have strong Codices for Orks, Eldar, and Space Marines.
Their plastic troop kits are the best in the business, and their artwork continues to amaze. Forgeworld provides a niche for the nutters, and Apocalypse has removed some of thew handcuffs from players in terms of what they by, and their "dream" army lists.
White Dwarf is slowly improving as well. Some more hobby articles, and some balance between the various ways to play 40K (tourney love, hobby love, campaigning love). A decent retreat from the awful "Here's some new models in a dump, see you in 5-10 years with more!" release schedule with second wave models coming - and good ones too.
I'll feel better when my Space Wolves get their new plastic crack and metal figs, but the state of the game is pretty good right now. Heck, even the DE are getting a Jes Goodwin redo. How cool is that?
It's not all wine and roses, but it's better than the last two - three years (which weren't awful to begin with...just disjointed). It shows a more focused and congenial direction.
Keep it up, GW.

I love GW. I love the company and I love the games and miniatures they produce. I can't really fathom playing other games, Warhammer is just where it's at for me.
Now, I'm no fanboi for GW. It's not like they can do no wrong, (though they haven't specifically wronged me, yet, waiting on the new Guard Codex before I pass judgement there...) but they seem to be doing alot right.
Apoc, 5th ed, Cities of Death, all nice improvements. Forge World has gone insane with power/profit and is now making entire armies (one of which I proudly claim as my own) and models that defy reason (REAVER!). And the GW minis are always vast improvements over their predecessors. I can't tell you how much I hate some of those old, static posed metals...
And now they're even giving us FAQs! They aren't the best, but they're better than nothing.
I tell you, I look forward to most releases now, even if I have no intention on collecting that army (even my most loathed Space Marines, to a small extent. I actually really like the way they do special characters and HQ units defining the kind of army you take, and Space Marines are the shining example of this. And the Thunderfire cannon is wicked cool. I can convert that...)
Thumbs up for GW! You're doing alot more good than bad!
Now finish the Guard Codex before a Space Marine variant codex or I'm ebaying my many armies and moving to Warmachine.

Anyway, I have to agree, for the most part.
At this point in my gaming life, it is more about the hobby aspects but, I see a lot og good coming out of GW these days.
Especially if they can finally right the WD ship.

Yeah but they always have to shock us with some crappy models inbetween. Like the 4ed metal Possessed Marines some might ad plastic Chaos Terminators (which I like). Here is still space for improvement. Even Jes Godwin admits that some modelers should use a ruler. The models are their best, some might say the models and the fluff. Maybe this thread is an evidence that GW is more a model selling company than a rule selling company which is pointed out in the arguements about unclear rules regulary.

Ok, enough GW love....
I don't agree with the point that GW is simply a model selling company....that might have been true at some point in its history, but not anymore. Take a look at the range, and how massively it is tied in with the fluff.....in fact, without the game, fluff, and rules they couldn't even shift their models.
No, nowadays, the WH rules are, in some respects, much more important than the models....don't believe me? ask someone like H.B.M.C. who lost out when GW changed the rules and he lost an army, or the guys who used to play Squats.....if it were just about models, these upheavals wouldn't make any difference.
People buy models based (mostly) on in game stats.....

this thread is a pleasant surprise, and i have to agree. I have played loads of Table top games and i always come back to 40K. It is just the right combo of elements for me.
I am really happy to hear about all of the great changes and am really looking forward to returning to the states in a few years and getting full swing into the tournament circuit!
now that i wont be working insane hours and saving every penny i will be able to go and play with the best, which will be awesome.
the only problem i see and it is not really much of a problem since i am a toy soldier addict, is that by the time i get back, there will be so much cool stuff out that I will have to take out a small loan to buy everything i want! hahaha, i am a hopeless game geek.
heres to hoping the new IG codex will be great, as they are my favorite army to play.

Personally, aside from the CSM book, I think the newer books have been excellent. The 5th ed book however was more just change for the sake of change, and moving the game sideways rather than forward (in other words, some changes happened, some good some bad, the game still however has just as many overall glaring problems as it did before, just some different ones). While I hope GW continues doing well with the codex's, 5th ed is a massive disappointment to me at least.

Beale,
Actually 5th edition is selling well beyond expectations. All Gamer and Special Editions sold out Globally 4 weeks before launch and the core rulebook sales have been spectacular. In all, it has been very well received.
Might want to find a new source for the 'word', as they are pretty far off base.
