Stelek....
You often annoy me with your high opinion of yourself. You come off, not as confident, but as egotistical.
Often, your advice is more in line with ridiculing someone for not finding the rule in a book, rather than pointing it out.
You're a, -as of yet- unproven braggart.
Something about you seems to flip a switch on people that turns THEM into jerks.
You often border on goading people into an argument with you.
That being said, you're nowhere NEAR one of the worst people on this forum.
I do NOT actually dislike you.
I haven't seen anything that -I would think- should invite a possible banning.
You obviously know the game and you have the spine to stand up for your point of view without attempting to "outspeak" your "opponent" by using unnecessarily "big" words or convoluted logic and thought processes.
You have much to offer the community, even if I WOULD prefer to see you less abrasive.
There's no way on Earth I'd have voted "Yes."
I'm a "No."

#1. You are wrong a lot. You are wrong a lot in tactics, in army building, and use of units.
#2. You are hard headed and when you are shown to be wrong, you never admit to being wrong. Instead you go off in a tangential argument and never admit that you were in error.
#3. If you do not like an army list, you often will tell the person how bad it is, with out helping them to improve their list.
#3a. When someone posts a list you do not like, when you do give them help, instead of telling them why it is bad, and telling them ways that they could make it better, you just write a list you like and tell them to play that. Your list normally has nothing to do with the theme or look that they were going for, but it is a list that you like that fits your play style.
#4. Instead of offering constructing criticism, you offer just criticism.
#5 You only think there is only one right way to play…yours.
#6. You post 100 posts a day. (you have since slowed your roll and have not posted as much).
#7. You boast of how great you are, and how every one else sucks.
#8. You contradict yourself constantly. Sometimes in the same thread.
#9. New people listen to you and think you know what you are talking about.
#10. Constant claims that every game at a tournament you have ever been to you have been cheated.
I could go on, but 10 is enough. Now the question is all of that worth banning over? I do not think so.
Of course the shenanigans he pulled over in the modeling forum might have been, but he learned his lesson.
.................................... Searching for Iscandar
Yes, I learned my lesson. Modeling forum is not a place to be Dakka. It's a place to be Warseer, and coddle with love.
Woo.
#1. I don't see you taking the time to post anything other than 'Stelek is wrong'. Which I wouldn't mind, if you'd post something other than Mathhammer, single unit theoryhammer, and a rule I may or may not have gotten right to your specifications. But you don't, so I mind.
#2. I have indeed, done so several times in the past few weeks.
#3: I don't know what your idea of helpful advice is, but I do my best.
#3a: I don't offer battleforce advice. You think I should? If someone asks me for a theme via PM, I gladly create a list tailored to their requests even if I am not sure if I can make it competitive. There are alot of those lists running around now.
#4. Again, don't know how to define helpful advice. I get more people asking me for help. Whether I am wrong (#1) or not, I at least offer to help. What is your contribution? Do you offer to help anyone? I don't think anyone put up build requests in any measurable amount before I started doing it. Am I wrong to do this? If so, why?
#5. I don't lose very often. I have played more than most, really, in more locations. What do you want me to do? Get photographs and signed confessions? "I lost to Stelek" t-shirts? Good lord.
#6. Sorry, I like Dakka and unlike many other Dakka members, I don't post anywhere else on the internet.
#7. Actually I say 'the people I have played at GT's suck'. And at RTT's. And at Indy's. Everywhere I've gone, I haven't thought much of peoples play. I am tired of just winning and getting called a dick 2 seconds later, so I'll bring a fluffy list and lose. Then we'll see how my sportsmanship scores float. If they stay low, then it's me and good for me I fail at humanity. If they go up, then guess what? Everyone else does suck. Dishonesty = suck. You can think of that what you will.
#8. Sweet, I am contradicting myself. I guess I don't see it that way. You harped on me for being black/white, but I can see the grey when I NEED to. Most of the time, I don't, but if I'm wrong on something and someone can point it out...I will indeed contradict myself. The truth is the truth, whether pointed out by someone else or not.
#9. Good. They should, because the other veteran players who are so superior to me, and aren't smug at all, can't be bothered to give them advice that's useful. I'm all about reversing that trend. You want to give out contrary advice? Don't just say something is wrong, over and over, because YOU were successful in your circle--you throw that gak on me and it doesn't stick, why would I allow you to do the same to me? I could care less if you got 5 wins and 200 points or 5 wins and 100 points. Wins are wins. Explain more about your tactics so people understand what happened and why. TEACH. If you think I'm so wrong, fine then. TEACH what you know. Keeping it to yourself and beating down scrubs in games 1,2 and 3 at GT's is a lame way to be a vet in this hobby and I'm going to do what I can to make the playing field even. You do what you want, whatever you can live with I guess.
#10. I don't constantly claim that. I claim A game against ONE guy was full of bs. That's really not bad for what, 150 games give or take? I got cheated in other games (at RTT's) by the people running the tournament (see, if the store owner allows cheating, GW does not give a crap until you scream bloody murder, and even then they don't really care they just want you to shut up).
Rant incoming (not directed at anyone in particular):
Blackmoor wrote:#1. You are wrong a lot. You are wrong a lot in tactics, in army building, and use of units.
No he's not. He's right 100% of the time. And even if there's a timeloop or other spacial anomoly that makes him wrong, he's still right.
Blackmoor wrote:#2. You are hard headed and when you are shown to be wrong, you never admit to being wrong. Instead you go off in a tangential argument and never admit that you were in error.
There isn't a more level-headed and calm person at this site than good ol' Stelly, so you take that back Blackmoor.
Blackmoor wrote:#3. If you do not like an army list, you often will tell the person how bad it is, with out helping them to improve their list.
The help is there, you just have to be smart enough to see it. It's all cerebral you see. Very high level. Most people don't get it because most people aren't as smart as Stel.

That's 'cause there is only one playstyle Blackmoor - Stelek's play style! Haven't you figured this out yet?
Blackmoor wrote:#4. Instead of offering constructing criticism, you offer just criticism.
Again, it goes back to the highly intellectual way Stelek deals with the world. We haven't reached his level yet, so we can't see the world he sees. But just imagine it for a moment... a world the way Stelek sees it. Just gives me goose bumps thinking about it.
Blackmoor wrote:#5 You only think there is only one right way to play…yours.
QFT.
Blackmoor wrote:#6. You post 100 posts a day. (you have since slowed your roll and have not posted as much).
Because he's kind and realises that we won't learn how good he is if he just drowns us in posts. Besides, all the greatest people in history know that it's best to leave people wanting more. If he posts less, we'll miss him, and want more. It's genius.
Blackmoor wrote:#7. You boast of how great you are, and how every one else sucks.
Blackmoor wrote:#8. You contradict yourself constantly. Sometimes in the same thread.
That's to keep us on our toes! He's testing us. We should be grateful.
Blackmoor wrote:#9. New people listen to you and think you know what you are talking about.
And soon the old people will too. Isn't this future vision glorious Blackmoor!!!
Blackmoor wrote:#10. Constant claims that every game at a tournament you have ever been to you have been cheated.
Of course he has! No one is as good as him so they have to resort to cheating to beat his iron cast strategy and smooth-as-water tactics.
Blackmoor wrote:I could go on, but 10 is enough. Now the question is all of that worth banning over? I do not think so.
Banning? No! Promotion I say. More over Yak, there's a new Admin in town!
Blackmoor wrote:Of course the shenanigans he pulled over in the modeling forum might have been, but he learned his lesson.
Oh please, those models he posted were from when he was... I think... 3 or 4 months old. He was being humble (as Stelly always is), and showing us that even he had to start somewhere. Now he can paints models with his mind.
Overall Blackmoor, and everyone reading, there's a lesson to be learnt:

I agree with Blackmoor on this points, and I´ll add that Stelek can be very goading on occasions but if the MODs are disscussing on a permanent ban on Stelek´s usual antics I would find it very undakka. Dakka is the place were everthing goes as long as a few rules of conduct (common sense) are respected, please feel free to correct me but I wouldn´t like Dakka to become another C&B or Warseer where everybody stepping out of the line gets banned for stupid reasons.

I voted no.. Simply because without stelek i wouldn't read my rulebook as much. His "quoting" of the rules gets me thinking "that must be taken out of context" And i flip through my rulebook, hell its gotten so bad, i take it to work with ME! (Since i work nights and troll)
"Ideas are more powerful than guns. We would not let our enemies have guns, why should we let them have ideas."
I voted no, just because he is the character of dakka. Plus, he keeps little kids away I think that he should tone it down a bit, but the mods shouldnt go as far as to ban him. As someone said above, we dont want this turning into another Warseer.

Armies Owned: Iron Warriors, Tau
Undead Titan Log Malfred: Terminator Armor has always had room for extra boobage.
Drake_Marcus: It's true- that's why the Space Wolves love termie armour so much. The whole "bear" thing they've got going on is just a thinly veiled cover-up of their huge, hairy cleavage.
The possible banning of Stelek was discussed at some length in the Mosh Pit a few weeks ago. The general consensus was that he should not be banned as, for all his faults and annoyances, Stelek does not commit genuinely bannable offences such as racism. Members can "ignore" him if they prefer.
Stelek has brought the issue to the open forum with the foreknowledge that the vote is likely to be "no". If this turns out to be the case, he will no doubt take it as a demonstration of broad support for his position, which is not the case.
Stelek, I've never asked anyone's advice about army-building or looked at any thread about anyone asking advice about army-building and so I have no idea what the hubub is about. It seems to me from the people on this thread that they are in need of your abuse to toughen them up a LOT. People usually ignore me, especially on Warseer because I tend to babble and point out to people when they are being stupid, repetitive and narrow-minded. Perhaps we can have a competition to se who can get kicked off of DakkaDakka first. (Of course, I'll have to go out and buy a digital camera so you can insult my P&M Blog and I can issue the blackest retorts.)
warpcrafter wrote:People usually ignore me, especially on Warseer because I tend to babble and point out to people when they are being stupid, repetitive and narrow-minded.
Wow... your fingers must be sore from all the babbling you do. There's a lot of those three things you mentioned at Warseer.
I vote no because I can just ignore the threads if I so choose. People who really think you can "play (tabletop wargames) like you've got a pair" are investing a little too much of their self worth into the game.
Besides the change to Smelek, I need the avatar changed too. I find it inexplicably disturbing.

I doubt Stelek is a narcissist.
I voted no. I'd rather have Stelek around shaking things up and making people question him than not. Without Stelek some discussions just seem like they would be lacking. Many of you owe your high post count to arguing with Stelek. Sadly I am not one of them.

You should print these out and give them as gifts at the GT's. It's not like it can hurt your sportsmanship score.

Yeah,
After a game Last tuesday I was discussed this over a beer with ArbitorIan, I think stelek has a certain charm about him, and is a valuable asset to dakka.
Whether or not you agree with him, his straight shooting creates interest. His blog is also amusing because it contains a element of truth in it (that hurts!!! )
With so much info coming at you from stelek you can't help but take some of it in. hopefully for the better!
I Vote No.... you can't ban someone because he debates like he's at war!
I would guess that most people who have a severe dislike of Stelek already ignore him. Does that mean they would even see this poll?
I don't know if this is an attempt at humor, or an attempt to get a slanted opinion poll. Really, most people that dislike him and would like to see him banned probably ignore him and all his posts already. Which means that only people with a curiousity to see what he's posted will respond, and most of those people will say No since at the least, they're hoping to see another trainwreck develop.
It's like doing a phone survey at 2pm. The only people at home don't work outside the home, so the poll is based on: parents with young kids, the elderly, the unemployed, and those that just don't want to work.
And I didn't vote. I don't care for must of Stelek's stuff, but he has some good theoryhammer skills. I'm totally neutral on the subject, and frankly, I think it should be up to people who have a lot more invested in dakka than me.

Yes. He should also be taken out back and shot for ruining the internets for all of us normal people who just want to talk about our toy soldiers in peace. Stelek is worse than Hitler.
