I am fed up with people insulting other armies and mocking them. I find a lot of people doing this. I may sound like i am taking this to serious (whichh i probably am) but this can insult people. I have friends who have stopped playing because some one slagged of their armies.

Intrested to hear your comments on this matter.

Funny you should mention this, a guy in our group went mental recently over something like this. We had been calling him a filthy tau player, in fun. Everyone in our group gets slagged, it's part of the way things are. But this guy took it really hard. We're going to stop slagging him now.

I understand that. In our group we make fun of other armies, thats just banter. But if your going so far as one whole forum got a thread up to "insult" another army is just taking it to far imo.

Examples would be nice. Do you mean insulting paint-jobs, unit selection, or something else? And I take it you don't just mean harsh criticism?

To be honest I don't think I've ever seen anyone flat-out insult someone else's army, although I hear stuff like "Man, that Iron Warriors list is so unfluffy," or, "Panther lists are so cheesy!"

I wont mention a name, just a certain yellow coulored(marines) forum does not like Blood Ravens. HINT HINT

yeah, because we are some real tough bastards. Called a bunch of bikers pussies yesterday. They were pissed until they saw the army box then they backed off.

There is a difference between trash-talk and being an imbecilic oaf.

We have some harsh trash talking sometimes, but most of the guys here are used to it, or know when to stop.

It's easy to berate Tau. Especially when you're on the business end of a Broadside gun line.

Because Blood Ravens are nothing but actors who get stuntmen to do all the dangerous shots.

Cadians are lame, not enough musles, and can't even fight off a black crusade.

The tau are an asian communist conspiracy.

And when you start to play orks they will be the suk! too.




Personally I have never heard of anyone over the age of 8 leaving a game because someone teased them about their army.
Fist fights yes, but not giving up on the game.

I've had no bad experiences in gaming apart from rules lawyers. However, I have met some very unpleasant people on forums, some are even here on Dakka. People who are unsupportive, arrogant and criticise the smallest flaw.

I tend to do my slaggin off with dice. If I crush someone, then their list/army sucks. If they beat me, then they are a fairly good player. Only fairly because I am no great shakes myself. It's not like I jump up and down and holler all this at them, I don't need to. Facts speak for themselves. Anyway, I'm old and fairly tall. If I start getting a little enthused, people start ducking for cover and retreating. I know a lot of guys who do a lot of trash-talking, and I really only hop on for the ride if it's a good friend of mine. Then, mercy loses any meaning. But new players and such? You have to be a pretty annoying person to draw me into acting the ass.

Got an even better example of bashing, an official version in the new sm codex. First of all, I thought it was funny that every chapter that can use the codex idolizes the ultramarines and want to be just like them; even if they were founded by a different primarch.

And any army that doesn't (or not allowed to) use the new codex is an "aberrant" chapter. And that these chapters are errored, have not founded new chapters for a long time, and are soon to be gone from the 40k universe. So it sounds like gw is planning to dump two of their founding chapters (BA and DA and SW) and a rather popular alternate BT.

I have heard rumors that they are going to eventually redo these four chapters, but since I have yet to find any confirmation for that it is making me rather concerned about my BA and very annoyed with GW.

A thematically slowed army is where I draw the line. I don't care about paint (although I do like being pushed to do so and sometimes push other to), I don't care about modeling ability but in a game where theme and story are everything, have some sense.

Will I give the person crap? Probably not unless I know them but I probably won't play them either.

Honestly, I cant see why people would tease and make fun of armies. All armies can win, maybe not in a tourney, nut in a pick up, yes.

Hmm, the only time I really insult / trashtalk another person is when I am playing my mothers nids. (Yes you read that correctly.) She runs stealershock and I really really really hate that broodlord and retinue... claw raping my devastators, tac squads, assault squads, company master... oh wait... thats pretty much damn near everything!

Criticism of army builds tends to be constructive. I'm of the opinion that being overtly negative about any aspect of someone else's army is just a dick move.

Trash talking still happens but as adults we know where the line is and we avoid stepping over it.

I agree. We're all in a geeky hobby and should not be discouraging other players.

We should tolerate and support other marine, ork, chaos, IG, Inquisition, Necron and Tau players and show them the respect we would ask for ourselves.

Different group dynamics will handle things like this differently. The gaming group I roll with takes special care to insult everything in everyone elses army as childishly as we can. anime fan saipan fightan magic gundam tau lovers especialy. Though everyone gets theirs.

To someone who isn't expecting it or doesn't enjoy the verbal sparing it can be a putoff.

I don't even look at other people's army lists, because that's only part of the equation. There's deployment, how you react to setbacks and how the player in question acts in general. I've only ever made negative comments about people who have been responsible for a really bad gaming experience, and that was already covered in a previous thread about irritating gamers.
