I don't know but I really hope they focus on the inquisition or something like that and not marines. I cant see how playing a marine in a mmorpg would work at all.

lol nice,
If they do a mmorpg I pray to the emperor that it's not like WoW. if your one marine on a mountian with trolls of dead units around you, with different ways to kill and fight them thats one thing. I hope its just not pysker=medic marine=fighter etc.
and if its the same grindtastic mmorpg just like all the ones they have now I'm not even going to bother.

Well that would be alright... I'd say it's compatible since it's capture-based. At least for marines, the cert system would kinda work for humans but other races might need other kind of system. I think.
No no no, we need 40k based MAPLE STORY! 2d ftw lol.

That's not a game dev problume, that is a problume with the player base it self. When you have a lot of little kids playing a game there going to go to the "bad" side because it appeals to them more then the "good" side.
But if they do the 40K MMO properly, following the fluff that wont be a major problume as there is no real "good" or "bad" sides, most likely they will start with a few major armys, SM, your basic "For the emperor!" following in blind faith, Chaos trying to destroy them, Tau working for the greater good and possibly Eldar. The only real problume I can see is if they team races up in a group like they did with WAR, I'm sorry but I can never see SM allied to any one other then other SM, and I can't see Chaos even teaming up with Dark Eldar.

The game is going to need to focus on a lot smaller scale of 40k fluff than marines, guard, dark eldar etc. In order for it to be true to the fluff it will need to be more like necromunda or inquisitor. And instead of marines, eldar, chaos, you'll have redemptionists, inquisitors, rogue traders, bounty hunters etc.
Marines don't operate as individuals. Their part of an army. How would that work in a mmorpg?

they could take a note from Mythic with WAR and have open quests/RvR combat where your not fighting alone, you have a team of people there with you.
And like all things that turn in to video games will be "Acceptable losses" in the story line and fluff of it to make the game balanced and fun.

well i did find a LITTLE bit more. and they said that they want ALL the races in the game but they arnt sure on nids.(i can see why shreeks and snarls is a poor way to comunicate lol) other then that its the typical "well we are going to make it blow everything away!" type stuff. and i agree i hope its not like WoW. that game was fun for a short time but then it got REALLY boring like most MMORPGs.

Seriously though, I've been thinking about it and think it could only really work with 5 races.
Human: From this you could choose a faction so to speak, either Imperial, chaos, or neither. You would not be able to initially play as a Space marine. If you become a good enough player, you can earn power armour and gak and become a space marine. I personally think it would be awesome playing as an eversor assassin.
Tau: Become a fire warrior, eventually get big crisis suits/stealth suits/whatever else those tau fools like. Playing as kroot could be interesting, but Kroot don’t ever seem to become as strong as space marines.
Eldar: Choose either the path of the seer or the path of the warrior, join aspects, kill stuff.
Orks: WAAAAAAAAAGGGHHH!!!!
Dark Eldar: I’m not familiar with DE, but I presume they’d operate in a similar fashion to eldar, just more spiky.

Hmm, the best possible way for Marines to be implented would be similar to the way Jedi were originally presented in Star Wars Galaxies. If you did enough you eventually got there but getting there was an absolute bitch.

Perhaps make becomin a marine such an absolute bitch that by the time anyone actually does it, the game is decades old and long forgotten.

Maybe they should keep it simple, and use the c.o.d4 engine to create a never ending war. Think of the perks you could create for each race.

I always thought that with 40k's large scale combat that every race should be available in all of it's badassedness, but that each player should lead a group of NPCs that balances them out compared to the other races. For example, you decide to be a Space Marine. To begin with, you start as a scout with 3 squad mates and as you level up you gain renown and resources so you and your scout buddies gain power armor and better weapons and end-game you're the vet sgt of a 4 man terminator squad. For orks, you start as an upstart Nob who's bullied 20'ish orks and/or a mess of grots into following you and you do the same until you're an uber-warboss with his retinue of mega armored nobs. Basically, if two equal players ran into each other in PvP, you'd see 4 space marines fight to the grizzly end against 20 orks or something similar. It matches the fluff, to an extent and it allows one class choice to totally kick another's arse 1v1 while still being fair

You obviously never played Diablo 2 online with a Necromancer before they changed how many pets he could have online. If you have, then imagine a game with nothing but that essentially.
At least Lag Death wouldn't be a problem, since no one would be able to do anything...

If they want to do something truly unique, it should be an squad based MMO-RTS, where each player controls a squad. I think it might be viable when you look at how DoW2 is being managed. A 40k online game would just be higher level of detail for the squad and make for a more tactical game than many other MMO games.

It seems cool right now while everything is undefined but I imagine as it gets closer to release I'll find more and more things that irk me with the game. My proposition would be to make a game that is necromunda/inquisitor based and plays in a similar fashion to say hellgate:london (minus the bugs...) . I think that would be really cool, although I 'm not sure how they would balance pvp, as it presents an environment where solo combat is as likely as small group action with all the fluffy goodness of an imperial underhive. I'm sure they could integrate some of the other races as well with time and the best part is that the game would have no dramatic shifts to the overall fluff of the native universe like so many mmo's seem to be doing. But this will never happen as clearly a stat-scaled space marine would be a monstrosity in such an environment and if 40%+ of the player base realizes the can't be 'HURR MARINEZ' then the game won't sell nearly as well. Oh well, we can dream can't we?
On a side note I am really excited for DoW2 coop campaign, now only if they allowed you to use your own chapter in story mode!
