... treated like marines would you be more interested in 40k?
So like a codex for cadians, 1 for elysian, deathkorps, traitorguard etc.
I was just thinking how cool that would be considering the resources wasted on the new marine codex. A couple new units to re-jig whats good.. whatever, I'm playing it cause I got black reach marines with my orks. But Ig would have been cooler honestly.
It would be a better read too, rather then: McCalgar pimp slapped this avatar back to the warp and lo, the eldar panzees ran. He laughed "I am the eternal warrior," before unleashing orbital bombarment on the scared space elfs.
Yes I know its the flag ship army, yes even I play them, but seriously guard would be cooler. Continiously supported, always mentioned in every Gw sentence guard would be awesome.

I have to say yes, as much as guard are a kind of specialist army (they have a massive following, but in my eyes there not a GW flagship army like Marines and to a lesser extent Orks, Chaos and Eldar hmm and to be fair probably Tau) with those being to most popular armies imo opinion at least because that, from experienced has been the armies i most play against and really collect. However Guard have the special place in your heart i find that if i want to have a really good fun game against someone i will take my guard as win lose or draw your guarenteed a fun time with them, enough of my ramble but i have to agree guard have just a richer background as the Marine Chapters and Traitor Legions do and exploring it some more would open up massive new chapters in the games background and give the guard an identity of their own......anyway enough of my rantings, what do you guys think?

I think they should just stop half the gak they do for SM and put it some where that actually NEEDS the work, like DE, Guard, Nids, Necrons and Dark Angels (Not necessarily in that order)
I think a lot more people would get in to 40K more if GW stopped shoving SM up every ones ass over and over, I am getting sick of seeing generic gak SMs every where I go.

I'd settle for a single IG Codex to be released early each edition. I don't need a sea of IG Codices - just one will do nicely.

No. Not a sea of Guard Codices. We don't need a Cadian, Elysian, Death Korp etc. list. Those changes can be handled within the list, via a Doctrine system (not the current Doctrine system) where you alter the makeup of the list either by platoon or army wide.
Guard only need two lists, and one of those two is Armoured Company and that's even more of a niche army than Guard is.
We need more Guard Codices about as much as we need 4 Chaos Legion Codices or a dedicated Daemon army Codex - ie. we don't!!!!!

I'm almost as big an IG nut as HBMC, and I don't see any reason to have more than one IG codex. I'd like to see the ability to run stormtroopers, mechanized, light infantry, and gun line all out of the book, with a smattering of drop troops as a dessert. I hate to say this, but I'd rather see Apocolypse data sheets for the rest, or Forgeworld lists, for things like Death Corps, Traiter guard, Death World Vets, Ork Hunters, Chem Dogs, and the Skulltakers.
Given how radically unit light the IG book is compared to Eldar, Orks, Chaos and Marines, there is no reason they can't add more unit types to really flesh out the list.

Or the units that they have, can be more flexible.

@Polonius: FWIW, I took a shot at a Platoon that can be Mech, Drop, Light, or gunline...

Definitely, if I was rebooting 40k I'd aim for marine armies to be about 10-15 men strong and hard to win with.
Guard and chaos cults would be the mainstays.

I don't think multiple IG Codices are needed... Although i think doing a compilation for the non-standard Space Marine Chapters makes sense, too, instead of giving each separate codex heavy on the C&P.
I do think ImpGuard would be a better zero point for the system than the current use of Space Marines, though. As is, IG get crowded into the 'worse than SpaM' part of the stats and thus are often considered untrained idiots with pointless guns that work as well as clubs as actual shooting.
Of course, I also think the base 'Chaos' army should be a force of cultists/traitors with truly scary Chaos Space Marines as elites and commanders.
It's all about giving them some sense of mystery and scarcity. As is, SpaM tend to be a 'commodity' and the prime target for list optimization.
(Note that ideally were my above ideas take into account I would want an option for all CSM forces, but they should be less common and perhaps require more focus than a bunch of traitors being led by a cadre of CSM. Then again, I'm weird.)

Respectfully I disagree that HBMC's Gonads are Nurglitch, er wait that didn't come out right....
While I would love a fully thought out, fully balanced codex with lots of options/doctrines/whatever, I don't GW has the ability to do it. Hence I'd prefer the following (somewhat in line with FOW concepts). Each codex would have some units from the other two, but be balanced to focus more on one aspect.
*Codex Groundpounder. Covers classic infantry formations from heavy Cadian through light infiltrating regiments. This codex would be balanced with small access to vehicles, but focus on different options one could use to make a variety of landser forces. The codex would be balanced to make playable:
-gunlines
-hordes
-combined arms.
-use of mutations (Halflings/ogryns/bestmen)
*Codex Treadhead. You want a tank? This codex will give you a tank. Deals with mechanized forces in the imperium.
-mechanized
-armored pincer
-grenadiers
*Codex Weird Units.
-airborne units
-infiltrators
-other special forces units. Scout platoons (including scout sentinel platoons), Elysian types.
-skittari
-arbites

I vote 1 codex, with a system akin to the doctrines, but each doctrine applies to the entire force. i don't pay for any of them, it simply changes certain aspects of my entire force. Getting jungle fighters, then being required to add 10 pts for each squad is ridiculous. My catachans should just simply be jungle fighters. With the large ammount of guard regiments, i like the mix and match idea to customize my own regiment.

@Fraz: I'd rather GW take a shot at integrating the options. Otherwise, we'll never even get the chance at Mech Guard, much less Wierd Guard.
