I think it is because it is the most common scheme... It is actually quite a nice paintjob and all, but they are copied too much..

Also in the past a lot of marines had the ultra-symbol on them. people did not like that because they wanted their own chapters etc...

I have to say though, I do not hate them, even wanted to start a bright army for once (blue is quite bright) but have decided against ultra's and going Crimson fist...

I don't reckon people hate the smurfs, hey are more of a jokey target, and noone wants to be boring and copy the GW studio.
The UM's have also been badly treated in the GW fluff, they themselves admit that they have made them look wimpy, and entire SM 'dex where they didn't even mention an ultra battle but there was plenty of stuff about the planets they govern.

because its not warhammer 40,000 its Ultramarines 40,000

they didn't even fight while horus was desamating terra, their charectors are better then everyone else's and they just plain suck.

Mcrage was the best thing to happen to the imperium, Regal Dorn fought and held off chaos invasion of the gates of terra. Even the Black templar's found their way into the preservation of the stronghold.

what happens? Lysander the new leader of the Imperiel fists is sucked into the warp, tortured by the Iron warriors where him and the crew of the shield of valour had to escape with their bare hands off the planet.

The crimson fists are all but destroyed, though now their going to be one of the most played army's out there. While the templar, doing the only thing space marines are suppose to do taking the galaxy back for the imperium, are constantly harrased for not following codex estartes.

The Ultramarines are not the Emperor, Codex estartes is not the will of the Emperor, and they should not be the ones controlling the imperium.

I think its not because there are a lot of Ultramarine armies out there. Its because there are a lot of bad Ultramarine armies out there.

Because its the 'GW Standard', basic, vanilla-flavoured army of blue marines, lots of kids get them and do really poor conversion/paint jobs.

If you see a good, characterful, well painted Ultramarine army (there was a lovely one posted on the P&M forums a while back) people generally give it the respect it deserves.

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

Another reason I've seen the ultra hate is because blue is a contrasting color. Think about it, you can pretty much put blue marine parts on any base out there and they woun't blend in.

I on the other hand have no ultra hate. I have almost the entire 2nd and 8th companies painted, and the only Ultramarines figure I haven't tracked down is the Iwa Jima diorama.

Did you ever see the display they did for the whole chapter some years ago. I think is was the begining of their regular huge scenes for Games Day. I have photos somewhere at home from when the display moved to Warhammer World. That was a lot of blue to look at in one go.

(THIS SPACE INTENTIONALLY LEFT BLANK)

They are the roman empire of the marines, which is cool. By themselves they are a good concept, and have good fiction. Everyone hates them because they are overly prevalent in everything. They are everywhere. Codex space marines is essentially codex ultramarines, with only sparse mention of the other founding chapters.

I don't hate them. It's odd that everybody thinks they're over represented, IMHO, it's usually whatever the cheesiest marine list at the time that's over representated. So I've seen tons of BA, and BT, but I can't think of a single Ultramarine player.

I think it's also become a sheeple think to pick on the ultramarines, and call them smurfs.

Personally, if I was going to start over with my marines, I'd give some serious thought to the Ultramarines. Blue and white is a very strong color scheme, one of my favs, after dark green. (Hence the DAs)

I play all ultra all the time. The funny thing is I'm the only one at my local store that does and they still get ragged on for be to common. The only thing more rare than my army at the store is Squats! Oh well, the ultramarines carry on smitting one heretic and xeno after another.

I don't hate Ultramarines, I'm just sick of seeing the GW studio constantly painting every marine release as Ultramarines. I want to see different schemes. I want to see Crimson Fists armies and White Scars, or Red Templars, or anything else.

I just want something other than Ultras. Please.

When I first started playing 40k back in 1992 the most common schemes were DA and BA. So to be different I went with a crimson fistish scheme too.

I don't hate them, but I will admit that more often then not the worst paint jobs out there are on the Ultras. Of course with me attempting to paint my own figs I might come up with the worst looking Salamanders ever seen.

Dark Eldar Wych Cult 4-1-0
Dark Eldar Kabal 36-10-4

I think the word im looking for is "saturation". it's like on tv when an add plays a song you like 10,000 times, you start to hate it.

personally i dont like the light blue colour unless the person has done something special to his overall army or model, otherwise i dont personally like the scheme but am happy to play against them or discuss stuff, they are still 40k people just blue.
