So I'm almost finished converting my version of Belial. While piecing him together, I had an idea and was wondering what others thought of it. I was thinking maybe he'd still be wearing the original black armor of the Dark Angels. After all, I did slap some pre-Heresy shoulder pads on his armor! My only qualm here is that I want him to stand out and well, there's a certain "other" black-armored avenger in the bunch. Sure the shoulder pads, and the base will probably help, but I want him to be a centerpiece. So let me know! Painting will probably commence Saturday!

As an aside... I still need a Sword of Silence for him. Leave a post and suggest!

I say go for black. If you're going to have him with a squad of Deathwing, it'll make him stand out even more and it won't be a problem with another black model in the army.

Alternative is to make him white - not bone white like the regular DW guys, but actually white white. That will make him stand out.

They were painted bone to honor the a squad's heroic actions in protecting an entire world. To have the MASTER of the Deathwing not also honor those lost would be spitting in the face of the chapter's own heroes.

I think The Power Cosmic is right on this one, would just not seem right for the master of the deathwing not to go along with the rest of them.

Also i am now sat at work with the michael jackson black and white song stuck in my head.

This is exactly why I posted this question. I appreciate all the fluff GW puts into their game and is one of the things that makes it great. However, on the artistic side, I like to have some freedom. It's when the two collide like this that I'd like to somehow reason out both aspects and strike that "happy medium."

Wow... I wish some more of the viewers would take the moment to vote. A gridlock isn't really helping me. Though I'm leaning towards black, as it's my army, and I just think a Terminator in black would look awesome in front of a bunch of bone-colored troops!

Any ideas for a Sword of Silence?

maybe paint him White (not bone) with black Shoulders or black knee pads etc?
as for the sword, there are some sweet swords in the Veteran Dark Angels pack you could use!

I think Kardos probably has it, Bone armour, with Black Shoulderpads, Greaves (I think that's the armour term for lower legs), and Helmet would look cool, he'd be honouring the fallen of the Deathwing, and the Machine Spirit of his armour by letting it's original colours show through.

I'm wracking my Brain here trying to remember why they changed the Colour Scheme to Green from Black.

I know GW thought it looked better (original Space Hulk box has a Black DA Terminator on it) but what was the fluff behind it? I know all about Deathwing and that...but not the change in colour.

Also, whatever happened to the Ironwing?

Dark Angels changed to Green in shame after the whole Schism during the Horus Heresey. The Deathwing and Ravenwing were the only Companies that didn't have any fallen come from them, so they got ot stay black, then the Deathwing changed again in honour of their warriors sacrificing themselves to stop a genestealer cult.

Ironwing was the Dark Angels' tank forces. After the legion was split the individual chapters didn't have enough armour to make organizing an "ironwing" worthwhile. Note: there may be some successor chapters out there with enough tanks that they'd still have an Ironwing, but it'd not be common, and you'd likely only be able to really use it in Apocalypse. (though you could get away with 2 Razorback Troops squads and a Trio of Predators. Black Tempalars would probably be a better representation of it.

Okay, so I did a google search and couldn't come up with anything on the green to black reasoning. Everyone seems more fascinated with the Deathwing.

I've also been in/around this game since the early 90's and if I ever heard the word "Ironwing," I surely don't remember it...

Very very obscure bit, I think from Codex Titanicus, or possibly an old White Dwarf. This is from back when Dark Angel Assault Squads had Grey Helmets. Can't remember what colour the Dev squads had. Might not have had one.

rumor I heard when I started playing many moons ago in the 7th grade (14 years ago), was that the camera man for one of the boxes shot the 'eavy Metal pictures using a green filter on the camera. When the pictures came out they had a green hue to them. From then on, the DA were green. There were multiple marine chapters that used black and GW needed to be able to distinguish their models
