A few days ago CNN reports briefly showed a serious breach in the Northern Ireland ceasefire. Friends saw two reports on the foreign based satellite television, then nothing more as (I suspect) censorship notices are posted. New Labour is very 'good' at blocking news that makes them look bad, and because this will make Gordon Brown look less than wonderful at a time when he is hoodwinking people into beleiving he is great world leader and a solution to the global financial crisis I wont expect to see much anytime soon.

So can some of our members accross the pond fill me/us in on what is going on. UK based News searches are drawing a blank.

The story was about firearms which had been discovered which were owned by a small group who refused to comply with the ceasefire. It wasn't anything on the scale your thinking.

Haven't seen anything on the news. Like whatwhat said, don't think it was anything big/serious. But it could be that American news television doesn't really care about anything except the election right now.

Yeh trust, if any breach of the ceasefire by any major parties was to take place, keeping a lid on that considering the consequences would be impossible.

And where exactly does the idea that new labour are good at hiding things which make them look bad come from? I mean there not doing a very good job of it if they are. They look like a leper trying to run a car without petrol.

The reports my friend spoke of were about sectarian attacks increasing/restarting.

Of which I have seen nothing myself.

Then it wont have happened or hes confused it. Hegemony exists, sure. But we don't live in china.

Well, there were some attacks on police a while back, but that was a few weeks ago so I assume that's not what you're on about. Nothing in the Republic's news though, and that isn't controlled by New Labour. Well, except for the imported tabloids.

I still hope that is true. Maybe the reports mentioned were not worthy of further time, maybe the reports were of isolated incidents.

But maybe not.

I checked CNN's world news section going back seven days, and found no trace.

The only thing I could find was Sinn Féin and the DUP grumbling at each other about policing. Someone fired an RPG at some police a while ago I heard, but it wasn't a terrorist group. I was in Belfast last week and I didn't see anything and no one mentioned it, and one of my friends lives up there and he hasn't mentioned anything, and it wasn't on the news.
In short, I think the ceasefire is intact, but there has been a flare of gang violence possibly.

Funny. I'd have thought that was more something for Stormont, or the government of Eire to worry about, rather than Gordon Brown. Not as if he went on telly and said summat rude about Catholics is it?
