OK let me get this out of the way.

The first book was ok.

the second was meh.

The third= HOLYWTFROFLCOPTOR!

Was he doing drugs while writtting that?

and how the destroy the necrons in the end of the book makes no sense what so ever.

Blood Ravens in those two books win second pace for the 40k morons of the year award.

First place goes to Biel Tan or however you spell their name....

So whats your oppinion.

Doesn't matter what it is or what it is intended to do. If you add a chainsaw to it then it is instantly better!

they sucked. took me like three weeks to get through the omnibus because i kept loosing interest.

too bad, i really enjoyed the game and i thought the backround story was pretty solid.

all in all, i was disappointed by all three of them.
now that youre talking about it, i dont even remember how the hell the series ends ...

edit: whats wrong with biel tan? theyre a well known craftworld.

I don't like eldar but biel tan was really stupid in that series of books.

CS Goto is the worst of the writers I've read in the GW list.

He isn't the Omnissiah, he's just a very haughty boy.

What's wrong with Multilasers?

I haven't read (and based on what I've heard, am never intending to read) a C.S. Goto book.

Vladsimpaler, you are seriously not missing much, aside from perhaps the Horus Heresy books out there....

I also wasted far too much time reading the DoW books... but then again, when i was reading them, i seriously had all the time in the world to kill, and boy did those books kill it... i feel like i lost brain cells..

there was a scene in the first book that absolutely confused me...some will remember it..
the termy sgt. takes a young pdf trooper in because of the kids heroics in battle... so they both hop into the land raider... but then the very next sentence, said termy sgt is in a razorback!?? WTF!?!?! it went on like that the whole chapter...bouncing between whether they were in a land raider, or a razorback.. unless they were suddenly in a Land Razor (thats a new type of marine tank, and is copyrighted by me..... since CS Goto is on drugs and cant write coherently)

Not only that, but they were standing on top of the vehicle. Everyone in the Dawn of War book stands on top of tanks rather than riding in them. Even the Farseer stands on the Falcon.

It's hilariously terrible.

The Firewarrior book was insulting from a fluff point of view, with a single Firewarrior taking out entire squads of Marines by himself (even if he was being helped by a Daemon Prince), but it was a fun read. Dawn of War was just one silly thing after another.

The only cool bits were the final fight on the floating rocks (even though Brom turning out to be a bad guy was lame), and the description the Farseer gives when entering the human city (the whole "Humanity's only artform is destruction" speech).

But it is not surprising that the Eldar bits are cool because C.S. Goto has a love affair with Eldar. In the second book he has Rangers that never miss, and can pinpoint specific internal organs. It's silly.

I'm almost, ALMOST tempted to read one of these, out of morbid curiousity. But I have zero tolerance for dodgey writing, I can barely stand most BL offerings.
And yet, and yet, the multilazers call to me...

I agree I have rea a lot of 40k books and of all of them I just can't seem to get into any of C.S. Goto's books. I tried to read the Dawn of War omnibus, and I got about 20 pages. I read the DeathWatch series and to be honest I liked the first one quite a bit, but I only just finished the second one, which was like pulling teeth.

The first Deathwatch book was OK.

All his other books are awful. I get the feeling he has good intentions, but he knows nothing about fluff.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

He has a lot of multilasers in his books. It's made worse by the fact that he thinks they're standard-issue hand-held weapons for Space Marines.

Goto is, statistically speaking, the worst author in the BL. Why do you think they never bring him along to any book signings? Because they see the reviews of his sh work EVERYWHERE.

Gotta love the multi lasers. I was proud of myself when I finished the DOW omnibus. I thought it was a major achievement to have read so much and not died .
But imo, he has potential. There are some really good bits-but he needs to read other books.

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

Dang lol, I feel slowed then, I thought they were alright the DOW books(only been threw two so far), but now that everyone's mention it the eldar were like super badasses in the books and kinda that kinda had me like wtf, how are Space Marines having such a fing hard time finding these rangers, couldn't the librarian not sense them as later in the book that a librarian can sense the eldar before they even encounter them there psychic presence is so strong, weird. Lol and yeah every one likes to tank surf in the second book, tho I can understand standing on the land raider to maybe get a better tactical view, but the eldar? Charging into battle on to of there there vehicles? wtf? Other then that tho I thought they were good, and if bangin a farseer wasnt heresy id do it too lol. Gabs a player man

Ahhh well, I'll just stick the the Cain books then. I love the way they lampoon the Imperial belief system. We have a man who does genuinely heroic things, but because he - unlike Imperial propaganda poster boys - actually has doubt and fear he has convinced himself that he is a fraud. It's also nice to see the glimpses of what Imperial life is like away from the wars that we get sporadically throughout those works.

Sure, CS Goto should be hung by his feet and flogged, but, having said that so should the whole BL team.

How half the fluff f-ups they allow through, actaully get through, is beyond me. They must get the scripts in the post and send them straight to the printers....these guys seriously do not employ proof readers.

I mean, arn't GW worried about the handling of their IP? These muppets are screwing it up left right and centre!

Man down, Man down....

-McNeil

The rest should be flayed alive and hung by their testes while wild dogs eat their faces.

Aaron Dembski-Brown should also be spared. Cadian Blood was a good 'un, and his Night Lords series looks promising.

I saw Cadian Blood, but ignored it. The...unusual cover art and my unfamiliarity with the author turned me off. How was it(more details, but no spoilers please)?

There's also James Swallow and Henry Zou(afaik, he's only done Emperor's Mercy, but that was a good one, imo).

Cadian Blood was actually really good.

It's alot of action, an interesting plot...and Cadians fightin' zombies.

And using Chimera dozerblades on zombie roadblocks.
And using Sentinels on zombies.

I'm really hoping he does more with the 88th. But it was a good start, as I don't think the Cadians really get too much exposure in actual novel form. Just a brief bit in an Eisenhorn novel, a bit in some of the Chaos Marine books, etc.

His Night Lords series(first book is "Soul Hunter" and releases next year) and the Helsreach book he has coming out soon make my reading nose tingle.

Noted.

I thought the first NL novel was "Lord of the Night" or some such.

Not by the guy doing the series, which is Aaron Dembski-Bowden.

Ugh, his last name always gives me issues. It's "Aaron Dembski-Bowden" not "Aaron Dembski-Brown" as I keep thinking for some reason.

As a sidenote: He has a livejournal page.
It is utterly hilarious to read. Especially for why he doesn't want to really do a Night Lords novel set in the Horus Heresy.
