So, anyone out there still play Battletech? I know it's alive and well in Minneapolis, and has even pushed 40K aside at one store. There are something like 3 people who play it in my area, but they're completely stuck in 3025.
It's a fun game. I'd like to see more of it around.

It's still quite big, and growing at a pretty good pace.

I should know, I'm an official demonstrator with an NDA with Catalyst Game Labs.

Go to catalystdemos.com to learn more. Sign up as a player. I know there are Agents near you somewhere (I'm not one of them).

Also hit up the CBT forums at www.classicbattletech.com.

There's a small Dakka BT player faction. I think HBMC plays as do a few others.

Working on someting you'll either love or hate. Hopefully to be revealed by November.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Battletech! Hurr!

Honestly, Battletech is just awesome. Table Top Gaming news takes the 'tech action pretty seriously, too.

Hmm Mattlov, an interesting name quiaff.

It possibly seems that of the three Dakkites I known to be into Battletech (including myself) all of us are Jade Falcons.

Actually, I'm a Blakist.

Ramon Alexi Mattlov was the first MW character I ever played. Then I read the Jade Phoenix Trilogy and lo and behold, Ramon Mattlov of the Jade Falcons. It was kinda cool. I created the same name as the worst CBT author!

Actually I can't talk much. I have a Company of Pirate 'Mechs that are secretly supplied by the Wobbies to disrupt the Lyran Alliance.

Your egg men.

You still use a Jade Falcon avatar though.

Are you claiming Thurston is the worst author? Stackpole well deserves that tarnished title.

Oh dear Ghu, no. Stackpole might be bad, but at least he was consistent. Thurston wouldn't know the CBT universe if it walked up and beat him with a toilet.

The Egg Men are just one Lance, the Lance that have 'Mechs that look like eggs. The whole unit is called Bronstein's Berzerkers, led by a complete psycopath named Kapten Amelia Bronstein. She's from the former Oberon Confederation and is a bit unhinged.

And I did eventually go with your idea that the Imp pilot is a former Wolf's Dragoon that left during their Civil War.

Of course, 'cause I'm a Falcon first, everything else second. I have a Cluster of Ghost Bear 2nd Line on top of my Cluster of Falcons, and then I've got a Regiment of IS 'Mechs split between Davions and Kuritans. The Falcons still come first.

I was always a big fan of the Kuritans and the Nova Cats Clan... Nova Cats' Xi galaxy had the single ugliest paint-scheme I've ever seen and I just couldn't help but love it. The Nova Cats also figured out hot to make the Viking missile boat into a pulse laser and LBX-AC armed close-combat monster... hideous modded mechs and hideous paint schemes do make a fun faction!

Clan Nova Cat here, although I might get into other Clans if certain 'mechs catch my eye. I am a fan of a number of the Clan 'mechs, as well as the Atlas.

I have a dozen random, unpainted Inner Sphere mechs. I don't know the fluff that well, though I know some of it. Any suggestions on painting them? I'm stuck and can't think of how to paint them.

That's one of the joys of Battletech over 40K. There are no specific rules to paint them. Paint them however you want! Maybe you are a mercenary unit, or a splinter force from a parent combat command.

Or go here and find something cool:

I haven't played Battletech in soooo long. It was the record-keeping that soured me on it. If they made a 15mm scale, streamlined battletech-type game that allowed more uses for other vehicles and infantry, now that would be awesome. Maybe something like a variant on the flames of war rules.

CAV is your game then. Very simplified record keeping (on par of a click-style game in simplicity) and infantry and vehicles can OWN if you use them right.

Does anybody still support that game? I haven't heard of anybody playing it in years.

I have a bunch of Heavy Gear stuff (the old RAFM 1/87 scale guys) that I used for B'tech. Great game. Gets silly after 3050, but great fun. Used to play every day my senior year of college.

HG is still supported--they changed scale and the stuff is really purty but I haven't played (I always got the impression it was more a combined arms game than BT, which, let's face it, no matter how many planes, tanks, trucks etc is all about big stompy robots).

Oh, and I used to run/play the Mechwarrior role playing game.

And it's House Marik or Kurita for me. Or Free Rasalhague Republic.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

It has actually picked up in popularity with the new rule set that was just released.

Dream Pod 9's got a new web site, new online store, and somewhat active online forums.

They've released a pretty good new edition of the fast-play Heavy Gear Blitz rules and have been doing 2-3 mini releases a month to support it.

There's also a thread in this forum discussing the game.
