I would like to know about other peoples opinions on the quality of models that they play against.
Are you happy to play against bases with paper cutouts on or will you accept nothing less than 'eavy metal standard?

I prefer to play a painted army but I'm not bothered about the level as long as some effort has been made.
Playing unpainted or based stuff is annoying but I don't really mind doing it, some folk don't like painting.
An unpainted horde would annoy me though for practical reasons (telling where mobs start and end. My ork army needs work in this regard, I haven't repainted the mobs since 3rd so they're a bit all over the place in terms of markings)

I accept "bare" as a bare minimum. I'm a glacially-slow painter myself, so I'm in no position to complain.

I'll accept primed, but generally if I play that person, say, a week later, I expect them to have a least some more units done.

I won't gripe about it to my opponent, but I really do not like playing someone who will not put in an effort to atleast start painting. Now, I do understand a "shakedown" game or two, because who wants to paint mini's that they will never actually use??? Well, unless their just a friggin awesome sculpt or something, but anyways, I voted "My Army Standard" just because thats what I prefer.

I *MUCH* prefer to play against a painted army. At least base coat a few colors on there. If it's a brand new unit, I don't mind the bare metal/plastic, but if it's something they've had for a while, it should have some paint on there.

I prefer fully painted... but I'll accept models that are at least fully assembled.

Not everyone likes painting. I'm not going to tell anyone else how they have to spend their hobby time just because I personally prefer pretty models.

While an army of cut-outs wouldn't be my preferred opponent, they don't bother me. I'm interested in the game foremost and the hobby to a far, far lesser extent.

I would like it to be as painted as mine. Which is not saying much considering the state of my Tyranids right now.

A labeled base is close to cheating to me, especially in 40k with True LOS.

Not that I wouldn't play against an unpainted army, but seriously, can't you at least slap a basecoat on them or something?

And really, has anyone actually seen an army with simply labeled bases? If so, that's just sad.

If you paid for your models, assembly is all that's required for me. Paint on the things
is a bonus.

I'm more likely to write a battlereport with photos if we're both using painted minis, though.

To be honest, the look of two fully painted armies clashing is a BIG part of the hobby for me. If I didn't care about the visual spectacle I'd play chess.

I appreciate that some people don't like painting, but an unpainted opposing force is going to detract from the event, for me at least. I'm not saying I need an 'eavy metal standard, but a painted and based army = a happy Vandez.

All the same, I'm gonna lose anyway, so I'd like to do it in style.

Plastic, I much prefer to play primed and painted models but I've been playing a plastic space marine force for 2 months (I finally sprayed all 2500 points of it the other day on the thanksgiving break).

I wouldn't play the army in a tourny of course, and I wouldn't expect to see one in one either. But I'm not a huge hardass about it.

I never use to paint anything but now I started Imunda I only have to paint something small and it is worth it to have a fully painted (decent) looking force on the tabletop.

If my opponents only played me if I had a fully painted army...I would never be playing 40k.

recently though I have been working on having a fully painted army, but as it is with work and school it is hard to get time to paint, much less play a game of 40k. Someday I will have a fully painted army, but I will not discriminate against people who do not have painted models.

I prefer painted, but will play against anything. Some people never even paint their armies. It doesn't seem as important as playing to them.

I MUCH prefer things to have at least a primer and some colour.
Trying to tell the difference between THESE black blobs and THOSE black blobs can be difficult!

One reason I will NEVER have my own proper Eldar army is that I will NOT be able to paint them to the standard I think they should be! (My current Eldar pretend army is white primer - blue wash - job done!)

I have played with labelled bases. Heck, I've played with coins! (Actually, that was Blood Bowl, but same difference.).
I will play with proxy and counts-as, but they should be a decent model of SOMETHING! (Eldar again - painted up some Harlequins, as we have some, to count as Farseer, Warlock and other "boss" units). I have a couple of Epic Gargants to field as DeffDreds. Fully painted!

I refuse to enter a battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

In a pick-up game environment, as long as they're assembled, they're good to go. Heck, at some places, if you have a higher standard than that, you simply won't get to play games these days.

That the models are built. That an a reasonable attempt at making the models WYSIWYG. Those are my only requirements.

Still on the sprue is fine by me.
That's how we play at my FLGS. We're all really lazy.
Moving 30 orks is also really easy when they haven't been taken off yet. You just move the stack.

Seriously though, to those of you who voted "black or white undercoat," why?
Is an army made of white or black models better than an army made of gray ones?

I prefer unpainted armies to undercoated ones, honestly.
At least you can tell what the model looks like; with a black undercoat it just looks like an inky blob.

::EDIT:: Oops. "Basecoated" should have been "Undercoated." Fixed.

I prefer playing against painted models. I myself hate fielding unpainted models, but if someone's going to give me a game, Im not going to complain about the state of their models, so long as I know what they are supposed to be.

As most I would prefer to play against a fully painted army, but I'm an extremely slow painter so I have little room to pass judgement. My bare minimum is fully assembled plastic / metal, but over time if there is little to no effort being put into painting the army then I'd be prone to decline a game with that person.

'Counts as' is OK as long as it's not too over the top. I draw the line at proxying and have a zero tolerance for it. Your child's toy Batmobile is NOT a Land Raider, period.

Since I am a very slow painter and don't have a lot of time to paint, unfortunately, i don't mind as long as they are assembled.
Nothing beats to see two fully painted armies on the tabletop though

Friend of mine, with his Tau, managed to create a base-coat colour that looked just like bare plastic.

He painted his Devilfish and at first we couldn't tell until he put some red and other colours on it. We also asked him where he got plastic versions of the original Stealth Suits. It really was that convincing.
