*Pro: Original was one of the best sci fi movies OF ALL TIME.
*Con: Keanu Reeves.
Anyone hear anything? I was initially thrilled at the prospect. Then I saw K Reeves name. Then Frazzled was sad

Yes, it is.
As for Keanu Reeves, if they insist on continuing to cast him in stuff, it needs to be more roles like this. The only thing he can do well is the dead pan, near lifeless arsehole/alien/stoner/whatever(in other words cast him in roles where he gets to basically play himself). As long as the role doesn't require any emotion other than perhaps extreme excitement(Bill and Ted), he's perfect. I used to not like the guy, but he's grown on me since I found out he knows he's not a good actor and is surprised they keep offering him the parts they do.

But the original part, unless he's playing the robot, was not unemotional.

Keanu Reeves is okay in the right situation. Will Smith was originally talked about for The Matrix, and in an interview down the track he complimented Reeves on his approach to the role and conceded he would have ruined the movie if he’d been given the part. He said Reeves didn’t try to dominate the movie, something Smith was trying to do at the time.
And that’s where Reeves is pretty good, when there’s a lot of spectacle and incident around him, and he’s able to underplay his own part to shift the focus elsewhere.
So if this is remade into a big spectacle movie, it could work well enough, and the internet fan rage for failing to follow the original will be very funny. On the other hand, if they try to follow the original closely they’ll end up with a movie that’s badly dated, and a miscast lead actor.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

After watching the IMO horrible remake of War
of the worlds a few years back,I am dreading seeing how Day the earth stood still is handled.
I know that in the cases of both films the remakes have much better FX,unfourtunatly thats all they had.
I can only pray that if World War Z is made into a film neither Tom Cruise nor Keanu Reeves will make an apperance.....unless they are bieng eaten.

I hated the remake of War of the Worlds, so I'm not too inclined to see another one. I didn't even like the old TDtESS (bad acronym?), so I don't think I'll be missing out. "Violence is bad! I just came from seeing it, and it was a big letdown. The whole premise was too vague. I read in an article about it that Keanu Reeves actually went to greater lengths than usual to be "Extra Wooden" for this role. Is that the most hilarious thing in the world or what? The coolest part is the nano-locust swarm. Sort of a Stargate sg-1 replicator thing but better executed.

Well the original film had very strong allusions to Christ. Enough that it was forced to change a story element to keep from possibly offending people. So it's not a surprise that there is some biblical elements to it.
