If your group uses troops only scoring then what do you do with the "Hold at all Costs" asset, the imperial guard tank company special rule, and datasheets for things that aren't clearly assigned to a force org slot such as great knarloc packs?
If your group uses the old fashioned apocalypse scoring rules, how do you stop the game from turning into 4 revenant titans versus 6 baneblades?
If your group has a house rule, let's hear it!

Apoc wasn't designed with 5th in mind, which is why they don't work together. So I'd say just stick to the way 3rd and 4th did scoring.

yep, thats what we've been doing, for exactly the reasons you've given.
I just can't help but feel like so many unit types are just so marginalized by the big stuff rolling around. Heavy bolters, scatter lasers, autocannons... these guns just seem so pointless in apocalypse. I think I can live with that. We have the other formats for those guns.
Anyone have any experiences with troop scoring apoc games?

Troop scoring works if you are playing with mostly "normal" stuff and only a few apocolypse big 'uns. I played 6k yesterday, I had one baneblade and he had Angroth the mildly peeved or whatever. Troop scoring worked, as we both had lots of troops.
If you're playing with lots of superheavies, it can be frustrating to have a Warhound titan that can't take an objective, while a few grots can....

We have been playing with Troops only scoring. The game hasn't yet devolved into "blast those gimpy troops" and win, but when it does, we'll have to do something about it, I would venture.
Its also nice because it forces people to take troop selections, instead of every elite, FA and heavy they can muster in their XXXX amount of points.
Currently, I really like troops only holding in APOC.

We have played with 5e scoring mostly since 5e came out.
The one time it got a little wierd was a game when folks took the "only troops score" idea to mean that nothing else mattered and the idea of contesting objectives was "forgotten" by those same folks. Turned what everyone saw as an easy win into a painful draw on a . . . lack of clarification.
Shrug.

We do troop only scoring unless you take "hold at all costs" in that case its any non-vehile units.
I've been thinking about allowing the Apoc tank units to score.

We play non-Vehicle, non-Swarm Troops are Scoring within 6" of an objective.
We also play that Codex >> Apoc Supplement >> 40k5 Rulebook, so:
- DA Ravenwing are Scoring
- Hold At All Costs means that all non-Vehicles are Scoring
- Tank Company are Scoring as long as the Command Tank lives
We don't see any contradiction between 5E Scoring and Codex or Apoc strategems.
Unless Warhounds and Baneblades get a rule that makes them Scoring, they're not Scoring.

Too bad for the Warhound Titan.
Seriously, the point of Superheavies is to dish out a lot of damage and clear paths. Not to hold ground. That's why they're so cheap.

Same. It forces players to decide upon how they want to go after Objectives, because non-Scoring units don't even Contest.
Troops-only Scoring is what keeps Apoc from devolving into pure Pie & Superheavies.

I've been thinking about allowing the Apoc tank units to score.
I'd recommend against it without a points cost adjustment of at least 100 pts. Actually, if someone uses the old IA points costs, I'd allow them to be Scoring. For the points differential, you could have bought a couple units of Troops, so it'd be fair.

I ment the units of tanks like the "Emperor's First tank company" and the like. As long as they mention scoring in the "added special rules" section I was thinking of making them scoring. We have some guys up here that just own tank armies and they've been rather shafted by 5th's changes so Apoc would be a great place to bring them back out.

OH, OK. I was thinking you were thinking about the Hellhammer / Baneblade Scoring. I've played a number of games of Apoc with my Guard, and I'm a certified (certifiable) treadhead. I typically take around a dozen Tanks, with least a half-dozen Heavy Tanks, all of which have the ability to throw Pie or templates downrange. I toss in some Storms / Grenadiers / Drop Guard on top of a few squads to hold, and then Troops Scoring just isn't a problem. But don't the Apoc Tank Companies already have Scoring?

I just played my first Apoc game the other day. We used 4th ed scoring, as it seemed counter to the idea of "bring whatever you want" to force people to bring troops. There was only one superheavy (my Warhound Titan! ) so things didn't get out of hand.

We let everything score in Apocalypse, as it was in 4th, but non vehicle troops choices count double their number of points.
