There are exclusive unofficial clubs out there: the 300 club in bowling, the mile high
club in airline flights, the breakfast club for juvenile delinquents. But has anyone here
managed the 520 Club of tabletop miniatures painting?

There are 52 weeks in a calendar year. You paint 10 minis a week. 520 minis a year.

Just wondering.

About 15 years ago I did, not recently though. At one point, I was painting an average of 2 to 3 per day for about 2 years. Of course I was collecting at the rate of 4 to 5 minis per day, so I was never gonna catch up anyway (not only GW stuff then).

I couldn't possibly imagine doing that...

Every miniature I've even touched a paintbrush to has taken at least five hours to complete.

Fantastic example. 92 club, indeed.

At one point, Yair and I were pushing to see if we could hit
365, 1 per day, though of course actual painting is far more
sporadic than that. It requires some level of assembly line
paint.

But to get from 365 to 520, you're talking 1.5 per day.

Ifurita, so do you think in 9 months time you'll make up the
difference, or do you paint in bursts so that you're done for
the year?

Anyway, it's a goal of some kind.

So that's almost 300 minis already painted in 6 months? You should hit
520 in no time!

You should take a pic of 520 minis all together.

Columbus, Oh

Yeah.. is the 520 a raw miniature count, or do you want to consider it as "Basic Troop Equivalents" and count vehicles as 3-5 models, depending on intricacy?

For ease of counting, I am happy with raw models.. but I know my count would jump with the Transports, cycles/speeders and Heavy stuff.

At the moment, I am averaging at 12 models a week..

10 a day? Not to any sort of quality level.

Last year, while gearing up for adepticon, I did a bunch of orks between January and April. 180 boyz, 30 lootas, 40 stormboyz, 20 kommandos, and a handful of characters. So that was 270ish in 4 months. But I can't keep that pace up during the summer, as I enjoy being outside too much, and my thumb gets arthritic so I have to take a break.

Who knows, maybe I'll get there this year, I have a ton more boyz to paint, and I've already finished 70 models this year...

Yeah, this is far beyond me as I'm a notoriously slow painter. My tabletop standard took about 3 hours per mini (one of the reasons I probably will never collect Orks) but that may have improved since i started using the assembly line method.

I'm still hoping to hit 365 this year, but the odds of hitting 520? Not a chance. Heck, I don't know that I even WANT that many figures.

It's actually 10 a week to join this so-called club, and that pretty achieveable to most painters, just doing it is the hard part

Depends on quality.. I could join the 520 in a month. Base coat, dip, dry brush and faces.. They would look horrible in my standards but lol they would be "painted". And every painter takes a different # of steps. I couldn't paint that many of my own models in a year.

Would be interesting to see the quality of work people do who hit the 520. Most people paint at about that pace (10 a week), its just keeping on it ALL year with no interruptions.

Well..... you see.....

Addict <---

I dunno, I've got the models assembled to do 6 full units of shoota boyz and 6 full units of slugga boyz. And one unit of slugga 'ard boyz. Cause you never know which you'll need at any given time. And I've only painted 4 of shoota boyz and 2 of slugga boyz. So, that's 7x30 = 210 more to paint. Then there are the Battle of Black Reach Pass guys, which is another, uh, 4 boxes * 20 = 80 boyz. And there are the nobs from those boxes (20) and the nobs from the new nob boxes, and that's just off the top of my head...

It's cheaper than heroin, barely.

Mal, knock up a Model Count wiki and I'd work with that. Folk can stick their username under their own paragraph, model count so far, and a brief description of what they've painted. I'll do it if you couldn't be arsed.

What did you have in mind?

I don't know if a running tally is warranted. Just continue posting
in Modeling and P&M as before and keeping tally as you go.

So far I'm on 13. Yeah, I know.

If you miss the mark, there's always next year!

This way people can also set their January (meaning, what time
period constitutes a year).

Anyway, if you hit the 520, it would be nice to have pics. We'll talk
about a wiki article then, lol
