it might be dangerous and illegal...but .22 bullets are really cheap. I don't know if you need a license to buy them though. But you're in america, so anything is possible!

You can buy the lead tips for bullets from any gun store. They are for reloading. .223 cal bullets would be a good size too.

Don't go cutting on live rounds. Its a bad idea. Things go boom. Follow Ifurita advice and buy a bullet without the propellent and primer.

live rounds = big no
however, air rifle pellets would work fine, again, .22 are the right size, and they are only lead
so it will be ok.
on the downside, you cant shoot someone if they annoy you

yea using a live round would be a really dumb idea. sure the chances are it wouldnt go off, BUT weirder things have happened. Get creative, buy a bag of ink pends from the dollar store. Inside would be plenty of pen tips to make missiles, it would cost around a buck AND the tips would give a little EXTRA detail to the warhead on the missile.

Just buy the bullet tips from a Gun Store. DO NOT cut into live ammo, unless you are a gunsmith.
The tips are dirt cheap and would likely work perfectly. I have bought them and other sizes for reloading purposes.

I wouldn't use bullets, too much trouble all round I recon.
KingCracker's idea of ball-point pen tips is brilliant.
Pull out the ink rod bit and soak the tip in methylated spirits for a couple of days to get all the ink out. They will prime and paint up just like any other bit of bare metal.

How would they be any trouble? Just a metal point being glued down...nothing to troublesome about that, and easier than the ballpoint pen thing.

An idea I just had for a custom Exorcist or Whirlwind would be to remodel the chassis sot he rear section uses vertical launch tubes, like on a submarine. Add a double row of hatches... Ideally, model one or two open and ready for launch, but the others could be closed.

I'm doing vertical launch bays for my Tau Hammerhead SMS. I've got a cylindrical plumbing fitting (a kind of joint sealing part) which drops nicely into the drone bays. The missiles are going to be clustered inside with some kind of launch tube.
For my variant SM army, I'm using a 1/35 scale M113 Tow Under Armour kit from Verlinden.

FWIW, bullets are perfectly safe. The bullet is the projectile, alone it's not dangerous, except for the lead content, which isn't really a major issue when it's copper jacketed and covered in paint.
A full cartridge, though, with powder and primer, is different. Still not especially dangerous, but still an incredibly horrible idea.
So, stick with actual bullets. What's nice there, is you've got a lot of options. A 9mm copper jacketed ball round would be a nice chunky missile. A .223 would be more speedy looking. In general, rifle bullets are pointier and more streamlined, and pistol bullets are shorter and blunter. .22 lead would probably look ok, though they tend to have irregular surfaces to grip rifling, so they're not as smooth looking as a 9mm.
.25 ACP might be a good size.

I dont know their laws to save but Ive hear specially the gun laws over seas are a real nightmare compaired to ours. shoot here I took my 13 y/o nephew to the local gun range, I bought ammo for my handgun told them how Im taking him shooting for his very first time blah blah blah... the store owner said happy bday and gave him free ear plugs and a handgun magazine things are different in other parts of the world.

I'll never suggest real bullets for a modelling project again. Its just not safe. And its too controversial!!
Plastic is always better. Thats why I play warhammer.

LOL
Would be cool though modeling live ammo into a whirlwind...
"Dude, I wouldn't stand there."
"Why?"
"You are in the firing line for my whirlwind."
"It's just a model right?"
"Well, there was this suggestion on Dakka........"
;-)
My suggestion...
Buy push pins, cut the top sphere in half and glue onto an appropriate piece of plastic tubing.

heh, .22 rounds are cheap and you dont actually need to cut them off, you can just pull the bullet out of the shell (assuming you have enough muscle) or pry it out with plyers. you never want to cut a bullet with anything as that can cause sparks and explosions/fire. However, you can buy a ton of them for next to nothing (a few hundred for leik 20$ or a pack of 20ish for a couple $).

No actually its very simple and easy to do. Not sure why it would be more complicated. Hell even with full bullets its easy to take the tips off (just pull hard).
