I have an imperial guard army and recently acquired the 'missionary with plasma gun' model. However in the IG codex there is no missionary, only a priest. If I treat the missionary as a priest, then I can't give him a plasma gun, as it is not listed in the IG armoury. Am I doing something wrong, or is it not possible to field my new missionary with plasma gun?

IG Priests can't have Plasmaguns. Witch Hunter Priests can.

Old model, allowable under way old rules. Sounds like conversion fodder!

I think painting the Plasma to look bronzed and claim it as a relic/icon might be your best bet.

This is a Witch Hunter Priest with a Plasma Gun that you take as an Allied HQ model.

Alternately, he's a Priest with a Plasma Gun that counts as a Plasma Pistol.

Alternately, you give buy a Plasma Gun for a Guardsman, but use a Lasgun model, and simply tell your opponent that the Priest and Guardsman swapped guns.
