So, WYSIWYG, what you see is what you get, is an important part of 40k now. Good idea. Nothing ruins your plan like charging an innocuous Marine wielding a Bolt Pistol, only to find out he is actually armed with Twin Lightning Claws etc.
And so is TloS. If the models eyes can see, you can shoot etc. Fair enough. All armies are equally affected by this.....or are they?
I can fulfil both, while blagging myself an absolutely ridiculous advantage, using official GW models.
Official GW Epic models.
Oh yeah! A marine is a marine is a marine, even if it's 5mm high. It has it's Power Armour, it has it's Bolter clearly modelled on. The Marine Heavy Weapons in Epic are all Missile Launchers, so I can do WYSIWYG with them. The Assault Marines have Chainsword and Bolt Pistol, so thats them sorted....
As long as I mount them on the appropriate 25mm base, whats your sodding problem? What? My Landraider is the size of a two pence? Why yes it is, but it's still a Landraider. Look, it's got Lascannons and everything.
Mahahahahahahahaha!*
*No, I am not being serious, but I'm sure somewhere out there is bound to try this one, sooner or later.

Not really, you see theres this line you can't see, but everyone agrees on and knows about sub-consciously. The area beyond that line is labeled, "taking the piss."

If people do start using epic scale in 40K I think it'll be hillarious. Blast weapons will be amazing! Even the slightest amount of elevation will cover you, plus if your opponent stops looking at the board for an instant you'll be able to palm one of his land raigers off and he'll never know.... unitll it's too late!

By RAW, they have to be mounted on the bases they came with, without your opponent's permission.
Also, people were saying they were going to model all their firewarrior squads crawling, so it's not too far fetched...

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. |

Oh, Death was never enemy of ours!
We laughed at him, we leagued with him, old chum.
No soldier's paid to kick against His powers.
We laughed - knowing that better men would come,
And greater wars: when each proud fighter brags
He wars on Death, for lives; not men, for flags. |

Perhaps, but it fulfils the rules for fielding a legitimate army....
Oh, and I would like to take this chance to point out that if anyone actually does this, other than for a laugh in a pre-arranged game against a friend where he knows what is happening beforehand, I will personally attend your residence and turn various parts of your anatomy into rather fetching hats and ear rings to be sold at a local craft fair, the proceeds from which will pay for my next plane ticket...

Its actually a lot of fun to take your Epic models and play huge warhammer 40k games ala apocalypse.
I really like the Apocalypse and 5th rules Epic not so much.

I think my point was the rule that states: "don't take the piss." Doesn't need to be in any ruleset. It's a given. Those who break it deserve the second part of your post.

Why stop at Marines?
Play Guard! You get three tanks for like $20, field Titans like Dreadnoughts, and generally be a nuisance!

I've always wanted to play 40k using Epic minis - on both sides of the board.
I've always imagined it'd do wonders in bringing model scale in line with ground scale.

That would work if you scaled *everything* down to by a factor of 4 or 6.
I was thinking to play on a standard 4'x6' board, but with the tiny little Epic models.
When the ML fires 48", and the firing dude is only 5mm tall, then the range seems far more impressive.

Once upon a time I had a plan to do Travel 40k. I magnetised a 40k army worth of Epic Eldar and Ork figures, and planned to play in half-centimetres on a piece of metal 24cm*36cm. This was back in 2nd ed.
In the end the project got abandoned in favour of Travel Battletech which fitted in a small hinged tin (which I did finish - although I only sculpted 4 tiny mechs, a jenner, a battlemaster, a rifleman and a thunderbolt I think it was).

Wow i get to quote the same rule in the same forum twice!
Actually Doctor... it is illegal. At least in GWGTs
Conversions, WYSIWYG, and “Counts As”
Should you wish to field certain models in your army that “count as” something different in your list than the model that was originally intended you need to follow these basic rules: the models must be roughly the same size as those you are substituting them for (eg. you could not use Imperial Guard Ogryn to represent Imperial Guard Conscripts)....
I do like your thinking outside the box there. Or do I?

But thats the thing.
The Epic Space Marine armed with Bolter is every bit the same as a 40k Space Marine armed with Bolter.
But....yeah....kind of.....DAMN YOU!

Well, to play devils advocate, if you are basing a model on a different stand than it comes with, you need your opponent's consent.
As the space marine figure comes on a multi figure base that cannot be used in the WH40K rules, it has to be rebased - hence requiring consent.
LOL - unless of course you just put a single marine on an epic infantry base!
The Land Raider should be OK with WYSIWYG though!
;-)
Cheers
