Busy somewhere, airin' out the skin jobs.

What gear do you REALLY have. What will you REALLY do.

Not hypothetical, what are you REALLY going to do. Remember, we have families, unreliable cars, some of us dont own guns and really dont know how to get ahold of one.

Its all fun and games until a zombie Apocolypse REALLY happens, what do you do?

I'll start.
...............................

I'm in law enforcement, so I have a 9mm that I'm a pinpoint shot with (top marks in the academy), at any given time I have about 4 boxes of ammo as well (3 magazines) so I'm decent on that front. My family doesnt live here in Virginia so I cannot afford to worry about them, they live in Texas and my son is with his mother in Oregon...so I only have myself and my GF to worry about.

Once it's clear what is happening I make for Florida using my Nissan 200SX for the trip. I'll have a full tank of gas since I'm a zombie fanatic anyway and will hopefully recognise the signs of the end of days. It takes around 20 hours, 2 tanks and change to make it to Miami where my buddy Stormboy97 will be with his GF. He has access to a boat (I know how to navigate and sail). Marc is also X-Special Forces so we'll make our way up the coast toward freezing temperatures where HIS expertise should allow us to survive. (he says/I hope) He's also loaded to the teeth with something on the order of 3 pistols and an assault rifle with ammo for all.

If I run into ANY trouble on the freeway (likely) I'm not sure what I'd do. If I cannot make it to Florida I will DEFINATLY stay away from the larger cities and hope to happen across a farm or something. If the media informs me of many traffic jams I have a local place closeby my home that has several horses. I may try to shanghai a couple of them and ride down to florida instead. This would obviously take MUCH longer, but its the next best option as at that point I wouldnt have to worry about gasoline or traffic jams at all since the horse can live off of the land.

Basically making it to Florida would be my first order of business....having Stormboy97 set the boat up ready to sail. I would have him meet up with me somewhere along the coast but by the time that would happen communications might be out and we'd not be able to link up. Since this is real life we havent spelled out every detail of our plan...so this half-ass stuff would have to do.

If I get to Miami and find it too dangerous/Marc already dead-gone-whatever, the GF and I would probably just have to head off and find an extremely unpopulated rural area or park to live in somewhere off of the beaten track. I'm thinking country areas somewhere around Arkansas/Texas as I'd eventually want to head back that direction in order to find out what became of my family. If my survival is a major success I may even eventually find my way up to oregon to attempt to link up with my son and his guardians whom I hate but WTF at least they're alive and not trying to eat me. My ex's husband is a marine as well so perhaps they might have some chance of survival.

I point out that it would be the horses that would allow travel like this...as cars would be unreliable at best as time went on. Maybe I should change my plans to initially go after the horses FIRST and scrap the idea with the car. Hmmmm......

If it breaks out while I'm in Cali, I have no idea.

If it breaks out while I'm in Colorado Springs, I'm heading for Cheyene Mountain(it's not too far). Lock down in a nuclear silo looks pretty good for the Apocalypse.

Either way, I've got 2 good hunting bows I'm pretty decent with and a number of swords(real ones, luckily, not replicas).

I'd stock up on food gather friends and family (the more the better) attempt to get some weapons and go to the nearest military base (fort lewis in my case). If something goes wrong I'd head for Alaska. I don't think zombies function too well in the cold as slow as they are in warm weather.

I doubt you'd be allowed on the base unless you had close military ties. More likely you could be shot for attempting it.

I on the other hand would steer totally clear of any government agencies. I'm not getting herded in with other 'civvies' to wait for the military to be overrun or see an outbreak happen from the inside of a complex and have a hard time escapeing the complex just to be greeted on the outside by the undead horde encircling the perimeter waiting for the dinner bell.

You're much better off avoiding large concentrations of ANYTHING.

I'm going to simply curl up and wait for the end. I have no useful skills in any post apocalyptic world, my fat ass can't move fast enough or fight well enough to really make a go of it, and there are already enough days when I'm not sure how much I have to live for.

Check out my location(I live on base). My wife's an Air Force officer in Space and Missiles. I wouldn't be allowed in restricted areas of the base(obviously), but would be allowed in. We've actually had this conversation, it was her idea.

Meh.

I'd face it with the Classic British Approach.

Stiff Upper Lip, Cricket Bat, and shocking levels of Violence, and then set my Zombie Colonies loose in the less grateful former colonies of the world.....

And I'm not worried about infection. Alcohol can be applied to wounds to clean them of infection, as it is a powerful disinfectant. Thus, surely, all I need to do is set about the Zombies whilst munted, and the booze in my blood will be like instant TCP....

Guns are worthless against zombies. 4 boxes of ammo... 50 rounds a box? That equates to 200 dead zombies (providing you're BS 7+ and the zombie has T1 Sv-). So unlikely you're gonna score 200 headshots.
Even if you did kill 200 of them, thats like the sum of the customers in an average supermarket.

Deadshane1 wrote:I may try to shanghai a couple of them and ride down to florida instead. This would obviously take MUCH longer, but its the next best option as at that point I wouldnt have to worry about gasoline or traffic jams at all since the horse can live off of the land.

Zombie Survival Guide says that al animals (including dogs and horses) all die off within hours of being exposed to the zombie contagen. With NO reanimation. Sorry Shane, no horses buddy. It's private transport or nothing.

SO. Having had this discussion many times with mates of mine, I have a pretty good plan. Firstly, I hook up with 3 friends at their house. We all have short-range radios so can keep in touch pretty good. We then ramraid Dixons (large UK hardware store) for hardware and Woods (UK garden centre) for bags of compost, seeds and irrigation equipment, as well as fertiliser and explosive ingedients. We have a 4x4 for this.
We barricade ourselves into a decent warehouse, reinforce the walls etc then camp out up top. We build systems for growing and culturing food, leaving only for more supplies as needed and for trading runs to surviving forts.

Post apocalypse is about the long game, not about 'getting out of town'. You need to look at the next thirty years. You're not gonna kill them, so learn to live around them.

Weapons of choice so far are:
Shillelagh (designed by the Irish to crack heads)
Handheld chainsaws (one of the gang is a tree surgeon, he has a selection of these)
Molotovs / explosives
Steel baseball bat (1/4 filled with water)
Sledgehammer (thats my one)

Blunt trauma is the way to go. That and fire. But trying to build a flammenwaffer from copper pipes and a Super Soaker is a little far-fetched.
Guns are dumb against zombies, plus over here it's unlikely that you'll find any.
Sharp things like swords, scythes and spikes run the risk of becoming stuck in, becoming a real threat to your immediate survival.

Hole up good, and crack their heads when they turn up.

Good things to remember:

Zombies can't climb
Zombies can't drown
Zombies hate fire
When you die you'll most likely be reanimated

I would uproot a Stop sign and kick some undead ass, shouting WAAAGH! as I do so. Then, I would run to the source of the invasion, burst through the wall yelling "OH YEAHHH" and then making the guy who caused the invasion spill his strawberry Kool-Aid. Then I'll be hailed as a hero then I'll gain access to many ladiez. It will be quite grand.

Ask anyone with any real experience, like Myself (Ex Army) and Deadshane1 (Cop) just how far anykind of "By the Book" train of thought actually makes it "on the streets" so to speak.

Back on topic....
Being ex army and knowing how that cog turns, I would try to stay away from any military base/units/people unless I had ZERO other choice. Think about it, if zombies were to suddenly appear in lets say New York and the government knew that containment was going to be a joke... do you honestly think they wont drop something along the lines of a MOAB or Neutron Bomb before sending in ground troops regardless of collateral damage?

They wouldnt even blink twice.

The list could go on, but I think you all get the picture.

As for what I would do.... Gather my friends and pool our supplies at my house and wage war on any zed up to 1000 Yrds from the house. Gotta love Silenced High Powered Rifles.

Let me see...

I have a chainsaw, gas powered. I know the location of the closest gun shop. I reckon I could use the chainsaw to get the guns, and then head straight north. The motorcycle should be easier to maneuver through whatever traffic or obstacles we encounter on the way.

Haha. Yeah, I'll stick to playing Left 4 Dead.

Well, I do have 2 swords and a spear on the wall. A Katana which should be sharp enough for decapitation and a larger fantasy sword replica which is heavy enough to bust in some skulls. I live on thw 4th floor and it should be pretty easy to block the staircase and then there's a shutter in front of the main entrance anyway. A small supermarket is practically right beneath me so I can get there for the supplies. I am also pretty lazy and have now survival skills at all, so staying at home would be my best bet I guess.

You have to define though. Are we talking Shawn of the Dead Zombies, 28 Day Zombies or what?

28 days - they're are just infected. No head shot needed. Plus you have a defined time to hide out before they are too weak to be a threat.
Shawn-they are creeping at me about a foot a minute. Thats head shots out to 25 yards with a pistol. Not an issue. At that point its a Joker style game with prizes for longest head shot. Seriously, if its Shawn of the dead style, between robbing banks/Ferrari dealerships this isn't an issue.

Albany, NY

Mostly this thread makes me realize how screwed I am. Back with me ex-fiancee we had a pretty decent place - 2nd floor apartment, only access is door at the bottom of stairs, and we had loads of TV's (like 4) to hurl down there along with excess furniture and such to block the zeds up. I had my handy sledgehammer, demo bar and khopesh for up-close action, but more importantly we had months and months of perishable food from her being a cumpulsive sale-shopper.

Now single in NY, I'm kinda toast. Still got the melee weapons, but living on the first floor, with an insecurable basement to boot. I can hole up in my room for a bit, got some food in here, but honestly I don't think I can hammer them down fast enough should they arrive in force. Not sure where to mobilize too either - I'm in good shape, strong runner and decent fighter, but I unfortunately have to rely on somebody else to have a plan or a decent place set up. Recently bought a motorcycle though, just need to get the new battery charged up to be ready to roll. Problem though, it's a honda so only like 150 miles to the tank ...

All the more reason to invest in that shotgun I've been wanting.

Didnt read that.

Lets look at this semi-realistically. The odds of zombies being true UNDEAD is slim to none. The idea of 28 Days or L4D zeds is more realistic in my mind. I can see someone retrofitting Rabies to be weaponized and loseing control of it long before my ancestors come crawling up out of the ground to feast on my brain.
