The only real news I've seen about them lately is that the release has been pushed back due to a lack of interest - some have said indefinitely.

Uhh... for the 80 millionth time, those are not new models. They are test pieces for sculptors. Could they conceivably be released later on? Yes, but for the time being they are not previews of a new DE range.

If they are then those are really really awesome.

He might have commented to that extent, I don't recall.

I was referring to the translated rumors from the Spanish site which claimed that the project had been "shelved" (I think that was the word used anyways), which wasn't entirely clear as to whether it was shelved for the time being or permanently.

Personally I think it is difficult to generate any sort of enthusiasm for an army as ill-supported by Games Workshop as DE without bringing out a new codex and models - so I don't see why they would cancel the project all together.

Then again - they could go the way of the Squats/Chaos Dwarves in order to make room for Space Marine release wave 17...who knows.

Yes, they would be. But they are not.

I figure Dak Eldar will go in that general modelling direction if they ever surface, though.

I think the fact that this question pops up so frequently is good evidence that DE would have a perfectly solid following if GW would just give them a chance... Would ANY army be popular after so many years of neglect? Despite it's nefarious penny-pinching ways, I credit GW with enough savvy to make sound decisions as far as when they release which armies... But when it comes to the massive potential of Dark Eldar, GW is a pack of skull-hammering retards.

I heard that when the new codex comes out the art will be AMAZING, the new models will BLOW YOUR MIND and EVERYONE will want to start a Dark Eldar Army.

This is from a guy who has the inside scoop!

I don't think that follows. People say they'd buy them, etc, but when the chips are down, less people actually sacrifice the cash. Talk is free, but putting your money where your mouth is is an actual expense. For example, if you had asked Ork players back in 2006 whether they think a plastic stompa would rock, you'd've gotten universal acclaim for the idea. But now that we have one, people are complaining about it.

When the chips are down, the hypocrisy of Man is revealed.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Yeah.

Not that others aren't thinking it.

Though I think it would be the ultimate irony if DE were Squatted in favor of new Squats...

I could see that happening. Well, DE getting the squat treatment, not new squats. we already have one all female army, the eldar, why do we need two? sure the Dark eldar have that whole S&M thing going on but I think the dudes from the witch hunters do a better job of it.

"All of the whining pisses me off... Somewhere some whiny girlyman reinterpreted sportsmanship to reflect the build and not the player. The build has nothing to do with sportsmanship and getting docked as such is ludicrous." -Inigo Montoya
That being said, I'll still give you a 0 if you bring more than 5 eldar skimmers. Don't be that guy.
Also, strippers.

Gotta disagree, unlike squats that have not been available at all since RT days (even in 2nd edition you couldn't buy them) DE are available, and if you don't like the models, hey, Dark Elfs make an easy conversion.

But you don't see people doing that.

Sure lots of people say they COULD be good, but it's like the squats, the squats of my imagination are wonderful, who knows what GW would really make though.

So I think a lot of the DE longing is people imagining a wonderful army and wondering why GW hasn't made it yet.

I think you missed the joke there...

Well, for a second I thought it might be a "joke" poking fun at the Eldar by likening them to an army of girly men, but it was so unfunny I convinced myself that it couldn't realistically be the case.

I must have forgotten where I was for a minute.

Love the artwork.
Fluff is OK.
Rules don't matter hugely to me.
Hate (most of) the models.
Until the models are re vamped I will continue to show no real interest in DE.

Trust me, no matter what damage they have the potential to do, single-shot weapons always flatter to deceive in 40k.                                                                                                       Rule #1
