I especially like the post where analysis of probability is criticized because of luck. Math teachers everywhere are sad.

flamer kills (assuming it hits 6 marines, which is very likely): 1 marines. almost twice the better.

I don't trust forums that aren't dakka. Warseer has pseudo mathhammer and rumors about IG repackaged boxes that make me sad, and B&C has gems like this:
"Direction, for me, encompasses the recognition of the control/beatdown relationship but then breaking it and inflicting the reverse on the enemy so that the outcome is desirable for me. I have to do this because I am using a label whoms perameters are set/limited to a water army and I have to redefine them to suit my own style (what ever it is - we still dont know) A simple actual in game example of this is focus fire or shifting/sliding my forces laterally across the table."
"Thus the quality of the generals has changed, forced or contributed - etc - to the allocation of the beatdown/control relationship through direction and application, which, whilst enhanced by army composition, can be independant of it, or so I believe."

I love it when armchair generals use Sun Tzu's and Clausewitz's theories and talk about abstract principles of war in order to sound "deep".

"Use your evaporating flank like a waterfall, cascading away from harm. Bend your army like a reed in the wind, using cover to lessen the blow. Like a rock against a rapids, challenging all assaulting foes with mighty vigor."

HAHAQHAHALK:KAJSLFDJAHAHAHA!!!!!! Holy crap on a cracker, that is so awesome that it hurts my feeble mind to contemplate it! What ignoramous spouted this drivel? I want to give hime a hi-five for his absolute lack of language skills, but the balls to roll with it anyway! The part that hurts the worst, is that some other mental midgets out there probably nodded in agreement while reading!

Dakka is the only place on the web I will ever call home for the hobby. I post once in a great while at BoLS but you get such a group of whinny bitches over there at times that I can't stand it. I seriously feel like the only place with rational, intelligent people is this here great site. Every other site seems to have a few bright minds and the rest are drooling plebians that do nothing but throw temper tantrums.

A Marinesquad consists of 5 marines. How to very likely assume 6 hits?

Yep. I agree. It's not necessarily twice the better.

(I'm probably not one to talk though, in all honesty. )

Wow. I don't even know where I would start at correcting these posts.

Honestly, it's posts like these on other forums that keeps me away from those forums and coming back here. Usually even the bad posts here tend to be more comprehensible (just poor grammar/spelling, not poor grammar + trying to sound smarter than you are like in the above).

So few people understand the math behind the game; those that do, don't need to be preached at to get it.

Trying to post an intelligent discussion concerning probability theory on most gaming boards is like questioning the virgin birth of Christ at the Vatican; some how "luck" takes precedence over centuries of mathematical principles. You might as well discuss racial equality with Hitler, you'd find a more open mind.

Bitter much? Yeah, but then I'm an advanced math geek who's cast far too many pearls before the swine. Take my advice: do your best to ignore the ignorance you'll frequently encounter, value those you find who actually can intelligently discuss probability, and let what you know make you a better gamer (ignoring all the times that your army gets called "cheap" and "cheesy" because you seem to consistantly beat you opponant.)

Apparently maths isn't an exact science anymore. Who knew?

Seriously. The things some people say regarding "math-hammer" are beyond stupid.

"hey you say a plsma gun wil hit 1 time on but wut if it hits 2 times mathhamer dosnt work becaus its all abot luck you no"

You might as well discuss racial equality with Hitler, you'd find a more open mind.
Oops. Godwin's, we just lost the thread.

I have no idea what this is supposed to mean; although I do know what a "water" style army is.

“Sanguinius. It should have been him. He has the vision and strength to carry us to victory, and the wisdom to rule once victory is won. For all his aloof coolness, he alone has the Emperor's soul in his blood. Each of us carries part of our father within us, whether it is his hunger for battle, his psychic talent or his determination to succeed. Sanguinius holds it all. It should have been his...” -- The Warmaster Horus

Heck, I haven't taken a math class since high school, and I still understood the importance of math. I really don't get people who think that luck reigns supreme. Of course, I also don't understand people who like playing slots or the lottery either.
