All of the box art for SM minitares are all ultramarines, the codex has got ultramarines on it and most SM in white dwarf all ultramarines. I don't understand why this is the case, when there are loads of other great chapter out there that could be the 'main' SM army, or it could be mixed up some more, with a differant chapter on each box. What chapter do you think should be on the boxes and codexes, or shoould it be a variety?

They put Ultramarines on the front because those are the poster boys of the marines, just like Cadians are the posterboys for guard, Leviathan for Tyranids, so on and so on

Maybe a "codex" marine player is going to buy some assault marines. They see that those assault marines on the box are painted all red like Blood Angels, and they might assume that the box is for an army that they don't play.

Because GW made them the posterboy SM. You wont see DA, BT, SW and BA as the main SM armies because they have their own dex's and don't follow the Codex Astartes to the T. IMO since the Ultrasmurfs made the Codex Astartes and their succesor chapters follow it then they will be on the cover of everything.

The DA, BT, SW, BA all have thier own guys on boxes that are unique to their chapter...I would like to see more of this but I doubt it will happen till their dex's are updated. For instance why is it that you can only get a RW Attack Bike in the RW box set? You can buy the regular bikes seperate so why not the attack bike.

Ultra marines are a little more detailed and focused upon than the rest of 40k put together

They should put Ultramarines on the front and sides, too.

Many moons ago it was BA on the front of all the boxes.

I think they do it to give the range a coherent look.

If im honest though there are far more important things to worry about!

Good point, i rememeber when i bought my first model, a chaos space marine biker, i got confused between chaos space marines and normal ones, so in the end i bought a necron destroyer and stuck with the necrons, they are not so confusing!

Ultra Marines are the codex army for space marines. Thats why. Is it annoying? Yes. Will they change it? Very doubtful.

Ultramarines are awesome.

I'm annoyed that there were Ultramarines on the cover of the Ork codex; there should have been a few at least.

Also, I heard that a lot of the Dark Angles are currently in the service of Rouge Traders, trying to revive the Emporer.

There's one on the bottom right corner of the cover getting his face blasted off.

Is that an Ultra? It just looks like kind of a blob to me.

I was hoping for a heroic looking commander slaying a bunch of orks, with a huge Ultramarine flag or something.

I have nothing against MEQ's. 'specially Ultramarines. I mean, they have some crazy fine mini's (Marneus Calgar anyone?) As for redundancy, I don't pay enough attention to the box art to notice it.

Marneus Calgar is pretty cool, accept when he is charging into your favorite squad of orks .

I can remember working that the local GW store. A parent coming in and looking for the blue marines guys. This was when there were very few boxes with smurfs on the front. She asked why all the red and black marines and bluey- grey ones were and why all the tanks were red? I had to explain that the box was merely to give people an idea of how it could be painted. I'd show her the sides and back where the other colors were and she points and screams.. "There's the blue guys, that's the one I want!"

I got a chuckle out of her enthusiasm and a chuckle out of her not knowing the difference, but it was a shame that it was hard for the average non-GW player to figure some of the things out.

We got her what she needed and next time she came in, she asked, "Where are the Predator and Rhinos?" WE'd educated her and her son educated her to know just what to ask for.

All the points about having more than one because they confuse people make sence, but the ultramarines blue armour dosn't even look that cool. There are lots of other chapters with cooler colour schemes.
