I want an army that would do decently well at a tournament, but not scream cheese like the Nid-zilla army that I'm building. I was wondering what you guys though of this list and if there were any changes that you would make?

I tried to make everything in the army multitask. I took Bolt of Change so that if my tanks were blown up, they could deal with tanks on their own. Although wasting a round of shooting with such a big squad just to take a shot at a tank isn't a wise thing, but I will still have that option at the end of a game where an enemy tank is the only viable target. The predator is the same way with twin-linked lascannon and heavy bolter, more multitasking.

1) Do you guys think having everything multitask is a good idea?
2) Should I get rid of the predator for another vindicator, or get rid of the vindicator for another predator?
3) Should I scrap the tanks and go for obliterators or havoc squads?
4) Should I get rid of the daemon weapon on the lord to free up some more points?

Any other advice is greatly appreciated.

HQ:

Chaos Lord, Death Screamer, Mark of Tzeentch. = 145 points.

Troops: I tried to keep squads divisible by 9 for an added fluff factor.

Squad of 17 Thousand Sons = 453 points. HQ would lead this squad, making it 18.
16 Thousand Sons, Aspiring Sorcerer with Bolt of Change.

Squad of 18 Thousand Sons = 476 points.
17 Thousand Sons, Aspiring Sorcerer with Bolt of Change.

Squad of 18 Thousand Sons = 476 points.
17 Thousand Sons, Aspiring Sorcerer with Bolt of Change.

Heavy Support:

Chaos Predator, Twin-Linked Lascannon Turret, Heavy Bolter Sponsons, Extra Armor, Dozer Blade. = 155 points.

Chaos Vindicator, Extra Armor. = 140 points.

Total Army points = 1845 points.

You did the right thing putting BoC on your sorcerers. With the increase in the number of tanks, MCs and nob bikers it has become much better.

1KSons are best at medium range but far too slow to get there by walking. You need to put them in rhinos. It is worth splitting the squads to get more with rhinos.

Demon princes and sorcerers are far better than lords, even if they work out more expensive, so think about getting one or two of those.

To do both of these things you will probably have to drop 9 1Ksons, but your army will be so much better for it. At the moment you will be out ranged and out manuvered.

Its also a good idea to drop the vehicles for oblits. Chaos preds just arent worth the points and vindicators can be good but just not as good as oblits. If you want to keep the vindicator then drop the pred for another vindicator and give them both demonic possession.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

You definitely want your 1kSons in rhinos. If you split the squads in half and drop nine of them, you will have a solid 5 scoring units that are highly mobile and powerful. The rhinos, once you disembark, can also be used as mobile cover. Oblits would be a good investment, but I (personally) love vindicators, so you could try dropping just the pred and taking a pair of oblits. They would fit into your list very well, as they can multitask effectively.

I'd take 3 squads of TS in Rhinos and use the remaining points to max out HS and add some FA or Elite unit; personal preference here.

I like concept of your list and made a few changes based on what people are suggesting plus some changes I would make.

I agree that rhinos are fantastic for the 1k sons - I run a squad in my army and it really helps cancel their biggest weakness. I think a Sorc would not only fit the fluff better but work out better for your army as well. I love Vindicators as well so I kept that in but swapped out the Pred for some Oblits (a fluffy choice still for the God of Change imho - Oblits are masters of change!)

Here's the list - it's only about 1760ish points to leave room for some customization - like different spells on the sorc or maybe melta bombs on your Aspir. Sorcs if they get stuck in with drop podding Dreads or something.

HQ
Sorc with MoT, BoC and GoC - 185

TROOPS
8 1k Sons, Aspiring Sorc with BoC, Rhino - 304
8 1k Sons, Aspiring Sorc with BoC, Rhino - 304
8 1k Sons, Aspiring Sorc with BoC, Rhino - 304
8 1k Sons, Aspiring Sorc with BoC, Rhino - 304

HEAVY SUPPORT
3 Oblits - 225
1 Vindicator with Extra Armor - 140

Suggestions for the 100 pts left over - maybe melta bombs for your Aspiring Sorcs, a pintle mounted weapon on the Vindi to give it some mobile firepower if needed, possibly an upgrade or two for the rhinos - I wouldn't go too nuts since they tend to blow up rather easily once they get stuck in.

If upgrading this list to 2k pts or higher, you may want some MoT termies in there as a tough unit that's good at dakka or choppy. Toss some Personal Icons in the 1k squads and you can get those termies right where ya need em.

Does the Lord really need another BoC and Doombolt? I feel like Warptime/Wind would be a better combination. I'd also push for losing extra armor off the Rhinos, it hardly does anything these days and is definitely not worth the additional points. Dropping the EA off the Rhinos gives 60 points! 10 of that should be used to give the Vindis Daemonic Possession instead of extra armor - that way they can still fire, and that's the point, the -BS is negligible on an ordnance weapon. The rest of the points I'd put into giving the Sorcerer the abilities I mentioned above, and then anything left over into meltabombs on the sorcerers.

Simply put, never upgrade rhinoes. EVER. That's what LR are for.

Edit: Ok, maybe an extra TL Bolter for the 5 points as it gives you one more WD or Imm roll you can eat.

Well, three troop units should suffice.
I'd drop one TS squad and add a Termie squad for cc goodness.
