We have 10x more sources for Model railways than wargaming stuff here.
I wouldnt move an hour for GW products when similar material is only a few minutes away.
Ps: Hamburg isn't that far from the UK, so Lego could look for himself really fast.

We were wrong. It's not the 40k End Times. It's the Trademarkening.
Moving around a lot I have found that in certain places model railroad equipment is cheaper and easier to get than GW, but just like anything else it is all about the location.

No joke, man.
Vegas at night was pretty spectacular. But my favorite bit was the comment about "eternally snow-covered Sweden..." Poor Swedes!
Man, I wish there was a real Black Library where I could get a Black Library Card and take out Black Library Books without having to buy them. Of course, late fees would be your soul. But it would be worth it. - InquisitorMack

It's all about location, really. Germany is notorious for insane amounts of model railways. Just to throw the matter into perspective, there's 178,000 model railroading items on Ebay Germany, and 86,000 in Ebay USA.
The coolest piece of model railroad terrain I've ever seen was a kit released by Faller a few years back. A drive-in movie theater with an actual mini LCD display and a DVD player, so you could actually show movies in 1:87th scale.
Some O scale some S scale it depends on what you want it for.

This would be expensive a O scale train engine run in the hundreds $ us the cars are not cheap ether that train engine in the apoc book was scratch built.
There might be a train store near you to talk to for more details. I can't fit a HO layout in my house let alone a O those are huge!

Kind of the answer I'm looking for too!
I'm afraid we're going to hear something along the lines of "it isn't that simple/easy" though!
"It's not that simple" is the only right answer, when you get down to it. I'd go for O scale myself, because the Imperium does everything big. If you don't want trains that actually run, getting some old junkers off ebay shouldnt be that expensive. The same with track, old stuff that's unusable for building layouts anymore shouldnt be too hard to find. Depending on where you live, of course. In Europe, O scale is expensive and rare.

We wish... South of Stockholm we barely get any decent snow anymore. Our winter consists of grey skies, cold winds and cold rain, for about 6 months. We get random dashes of snow which, once fallen, may stay for up to a week or two in January-March. Usually they're half-melted within an hour though.
Awesome.
