I recently added Lucius to my list and have been running him with my zerker squad in a LR with fun results ("Wait he has a Doom Siren? oh damn.") However I've been thinking of trying out Kharn in their instead. Not only would it be more fluffy, but 7 attacks on a charge, both hitting and wounding on 2+ seems very tasty. The plasma pistol is a touch bonus too. However there's that whole lopping off your own zerkers head thing, whereas Lucius has no such drawback and adds some nasty special rules.

Anyone have some tabletime experience with these two gentleman and have any insight on this?

What about a "fluffy" 8 zerkers and a Terminator Lord with demon weapon?

I know it's legal, but Lucius with berzerkers? Sacraliege!

There is no drawback with Kharn when he splits from the unit when he comes out of the LR

I imagine that Lucius and the zerkers pass the time in the LR trying to kill each other. Practice makes perfect!

I used to run a lord with a Bloodfeeder and while the buttload of attacks was nice, the double chance of doing nothing, plus the fact that I already had a ton of str 5 attacks from the zerkers themselves wasn't the coolest. It would be worth a shot though!

But he would need to charge a completely different unit correct? Otherwise he could still hit any friendly unit in the same combat.

The termie lord could split off when coming out of LR. He could singlehandily take out a squad himself as well as the 'zerkers.

And it's fluffy.

Kharn is better choice.

I use Lucius with zerkers, it is fun. I leave kharn by himself because I always have a way of killing half my own squad lol.

Forever alone

You actually want to use the Eternally Useless?

No. Kharn has an S6 Power weapon on-the-charge, and +2D6 armour penetration.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Take Kharn, just have him assault a different squad when you hop out of the LR. As long as there is no Strength 8 or higher, we will win.

I wouldn't call lucius "useless"...

He's a solid throwaway against hoardes and larger squads when you run him on his own... that armor of shrieking souls, or whatever the feth it's called is actually a fair amount more powerful than meets the eye.

Besides, Kharn is just too bad ass, I think he could win the award for most bad ass character in 40K. I just remember reading one of the horus hearesy books were Lucius gets pwnd when a space marines punches him in his girly man face. It just sort of ruins his image for me.

Yea, he got knocked the feth out in Horus Rising, but that was BEFORE slaanesh dug his claws that deep into the legion. Lucius falls into the same boat as Kharn, which would be solo assaulting. The difference is that, where Kharn is 12 different flavors of awesome in CC with MEQs, the difference in effectiveness when dealing with mobbed units (orks, bugs, etc.) leaves something to be desired for the points.

Look at it like this, Kharne is useful in a position where he can get into CC, finish it in 1 or 2 rounds, get out, and move on... Lucius, on the other hand, will tarpit those slugga boyz all day, and the fewer PW/PKs brought to bear, the worse it gets. You get the first strike, and then you get to hit back based on the number of saves you pass. Even if he dies in the process, nobody with half a brain is going to let an attack-dense unit near him, as the trade-off just doesn't justify the assault.

Lucius with Berzerkers? The fact that that's even legal is good enough reason to hate the horrid excuse for a Codex us Chaos players are stuck with for the next 4-6 years.

I don't like taking Specal Characters in the first place, but if you had to, then I'd say no to Lucius. Lucius the Eternally Useless got worse between this Codex and the last one. Kharn... didn't change a whole lot. He lost a little, but gained a little. He's still well worth taking.

Go with Kharn, if only because putting Lucius with Berzerkers is kind've like the Chaos equivalent of heresy, possibly even extra heresy.

Lucius is a heck of a lot of fun with Zerkers. I've used him many times and never been sorry for it. He's even better for tarpitting with a unit of Plague Marines.
