So say you were playing Daemonhunters and in a hypothetical tournament you knew you stood a good chance of facing Nob Bikers. Would the vindicare be a good buy to take out painboys thus negating FNP and opening up the Nobs to all those weapons that aren't STR 8 AP2? or would I be better off just spending the points elsewhere?

Not really a good chance for the points. There was a discussion here on dakka a month or so ago (or maybe on BoLS...). The different types of saves and the 2 wounds and the one shot ammo makes it pretty uncertain. But it is a chance, around 20% first shot, a bit less next shot, if I recall correctly. And depending on what else you plan to shoot at the nobz with it might be worth the chance.

It can take him out. Only problem is it takes a min. of two turns thanks to the 2 wounds a painboy has.

A vindicates Turbo-Penetrator round does two wounds, so would kill a painboy outright. The vindicates sniper rifle is also AP2 so ignores FNP.

But you still have to hit and it will still get a 5+ cover/inv save and you only get one chance to use the special ammo (honestly, what sniper would only 3 special bullets).

For DH its probably better to hit them with incinerators and then charge them.

If we were to play each other in a tournament, not only would I table you, I would murder you, your family, every woman you ever loved and burn down your house. I mean, what's the point in winning if you allow people that don't take the game seriously to live?

Yes. It's clearly stated in the USR. FNP is negated by Ap1, Ap2 and other weapons that ignore armor saves like power weapons and fists. There's a thread in YMDC that discusses it in more detail.

I couldn't keep myself from the math. 28% chance to kill the doc with the turbo penetrator round, if he has not turbo boosted. Not really worth 110p, but I like the model, old as it is.

I say go for it. Especially if your opponent sees it as threat they cannot live without killing righaway. If they choose to shoot at it or try and charge it is worth the points even if it does not get one shot off.

Check out my tournament finder

and if it seems too confusing here is how it works.

Yeah it does have a psychological affect on your opponat. I say take him if he doesnt work out for you then drop him and take the incinorators and go for the charge.

28% chance with turbo booster seems pretty gakky to me TBH, 110 points can get a lot of other more useful things. Also I doubt a Vindicare will have much (if any) psychological impact.
