At my warhammer 40k club we are having a necromunda campaign and we decided not to buy the gang packs but to convert 40k minatures into gang members.

The three gangs we will be using are as follows-

Me-Delaque-Using catchan jungle fighters
Nailz95-Cawador-Using empire flagellants
Vinny-Goliath-Using catchan jungle fighters
Bill-Orlock-Using catchan jungle fighters

When I say we are using them I mean we are converting those models to fit our gangs, my questions are-

Are there any models that would be better for converting for any gangs?
Ideas for how to convert them
How to make the gangs look like the house they belong to

In my experience, as long as you all know what gangs you are facing, the specific look of the models isn´t a huge thing.

However, if you want them to look like the metal figures, I´d say that for Orlock, the Catachans are very large.. Maybe go with catachan legs, cadian torso and arms, catachan heads?

And try to make them look like individuals, not like a unifromed fighting force.

Also, delaque is pretty far from catachan, but I´m not entirely sure what to use instead.

Thinking sneaky and covert, possibly something from the warhammer range, or marine sniper scouts? With the capes and goggles, they look stealthy at least..

Hope that´s useful. In any case I would like to see what you guys make of it.

Flagellents are perfect for Cawdor. Even better for redemptionists!

Goliath might be better served by Chaos Mauraders. They are beefy and bare chested with tight pants, and come with a bunch of flails and some regular hand weapons to boot.

Dalaque are a little trickier ... Cadians might work best for these The models however won't have heads that will represent either gang very well, nor will it have any variety of weapons and you will have to sculpt hands or shave hands as most of the lasguns have the hand modeled on the gun itself.

SM scouts and scout snipers might work for them as well(a more militariezed version, but the snipers box comes with nv goggles for all 5), but they will be bigger than the fantasy figs, and only come in boxes of five, rather than the 10 you'll get from fantasy boxes or the 10 or 20 you'll get from guardsmen boxes.

If the Delaque player isn't particualr about matching the regular models they are proboly the best(along with Van Sar) to be represented by a military squad.

Delaque usually look stealthy, treanch coats and bald with goggles. Delaque is really meant to be followed by "of hair". LOL

I think Catachans are the best base for Orlocks. Orlocks traditionally look like street gangs, lots of leather, chains, vests, etc. They are a litle too muscled for the traditional look of the gang, but will be easier than trying to make cadians look unmiliary. Most of the catachans are already in vests, and adding chain and some punk hairstyles would be pretty easy.

Hope that helps a little,

Meph

Though I know nothing of Necromunda when I saw Xanthos mention SM Scouts why not use eldar ranger bodies and then the heads/arms of SM scouts.

That's a good idea, but in Necromunda he will be arming each figure individually, so the one peice models are harder to convert. At least with scouts by mixing a sniper box and a regualr box(or using Catachans/Cadians) he can have the stealthy look and still have some guys weilding swords, knives, axes, two pistols, etc.

I'd thought about using plastic eldar with some head swaps for Van Saar.

I'm using Delaque and the idea was to GS trench coats on catchans becuase they are nearly all bald and bare chested and I think i'll use marauders for Goliath, we are going for models that look really cool so some artistic lisence is being allowed, i'm helping everyone out with modelling and painting to make some groovy models! I'll put some pics up when we start

Well, the bitz came and so did the men, I have started making my gang (Delaque) and these are the pictures of the WIP. I know the cowboy hat for the leader is a bit dodgy but I just couldn't resist after seeing the model Butch? in the 4th edition rulebook. Oh yea and Vinny is kinda a wild card and he might, might not take part but me, Bill and Connor are still up for it and i'll take some WIP and finished pics of their gangs as they paint and make them...

The Gang leader is called Jack Blackthorn and has a flamer, lasgun, chainsword and a silly hat.

The Heavy is called Great Dane and has a heavy stubber and las pistol

This Ganger is called Silvertounge and has a lasgun

Sorry for some of the quality but my camera isn't very good at taking photos that close up.

Just add some more pouches and knives and things, and the gang'll look even better!

For my necromunda I spashed out on some elysians and separate heads from Redoubt. If you're short of weapons, the FW weapons packs are a real help

Nice! I like the idea of using the drop troops as a base and the hats look really cool, thanks for the FW weapons pack tip, i'll check that out.

I have finished making my gang and so has Bill, i've not got any pictures of his gang but they are sprayed and i'll get some pics soon but these are the pics of the rest of the gang-

This Ganger is called Whiskey Dave and is armed with a lasgun and frag grenades

This Ganger is called Cutthroat Nick and is armed with a lasgun and a knife

This Ganger is called Baldie and is armed with a lasgun and a knife

This Juve is called Violent Dan and is armed with a Autopistol and a club

This Juve is called Rob Anybody and is armed with an Autopistol and a club, I know I stole the name from The Wee Free Men but I couldn't resist.

Again, sorry for the rubbish picture quality, pics of Connors and Bills gangs will be up soon and i'll put some pics of my finished and painted gang up in about 2-3 weeks. The paint job is going to be black trench coats with flames on the bottom of the coat and going up the sleeves.

You'll have to scroll down to the Elysian stuff as there isn't a direct link. Hope this helps, Necro is so much fun but all the converting is a pain. I shouldn't complain as I'm expanding my gang into a full guard army...
