Now, we all know the new star trek movie is coming out to theaters soon. However, some information has been released concerning sets, characters, etc. Some lucky few have also seen the movie when it was released as a special sneak peek in some theaters. From what those lucky viewers say, its going to be a great movie.

The trailer, and the fact that it's got Simon Pegg and that guy from Heroes, are all I need to guarantee I'm seeing it.

I have made a second hobby of searching out clips and pictures relating to the new Star Trek film, with little success. I'm not a Trekkie, but this movie has me waiting anxiously.

I haven't seen any of the original Star Trek, but since this is a prequel, this looks like a good place to start, assuming I can finish SG-1 before this comes out.

As long as it has Captain Kirk beating people, yelling at people, phasering people, and then making out with people, I'll be happy, I miss the old wild west feel of the origional Trek series.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

Here, here. Somewhere along the way, Star Trek got weirdly sterile and chaste. Of course, that's probably because the fan base is weirdly sterile and chaste.

I have a feeling those of us who liked the original series and not a lot since will like it. The Starfleet uniform-wearing, Klingon-speaking diehards who especially liked all the series after the original will probably hate it. What Universal finally figured out is the Trekkers or whatever they call them nowadays don't matter...they'd pay to see a sock puppet show if it had Star Trek in the title. There's no need to pander to them.

Ah, the good old days when a Starfleet Captain was an inspiration to us all , not some lame-ass PC twerp who had to ask his crew's permission before he could even glare at a bad-guy !

Definately on my Must-See list.

(I wonder if the TOS pattern (if a crewman is wearing a red shirt he's a target ) has carried over to the movie . I certainly hope so )

Last night on Lost they had a minute clip from the movie. Kirk was on an ice planet and being chased by a creature. I thought it looked pretty cool. My wife said something along the lines of, "that was stupid, is it a clip of the movie or what?".

Heard a mini-review on Radio 2 this morning.

Apparently the actors playing young Kirk, Spock and Scotty are brilliant. There is a time-travel plot which gets a bit up its own fundament but overall the verdict was a big thumbs up.

Im not sure what Star Trek you've been watching but I've watched at least one episode of eash of the Star Trek shows (In the case of OS, TNG and DS9 all of them) and I cant imagine how youve come to this conclusion.

Well, when it comes to Kirks OTT swagger, all the other captians come off a bit "soft".

This is an attempt to breath life back into Star Trek and to get a younger generation interested. There will be lots of flashy lights. loud bangs, quick movement, and action. Hopefully mixed into all of that they will give us a great story too. It can't be any worse than Enterprise. The villain just better not be space Nazis.

I'm going for sure.

I actually don't like Simon Pegg in anything I have seen, and the movie looks a little too typical hollywood OTT to me.

But it's a sci fi movie so I will go.

Sooo, I just came out of the premiere....

That was one awesome movie. I can't remember a single thing I didn't like. And I'm not a Trekker. I like TNG and DS9, but that's about it. Wraith of Khan was good (I guess, it was the only one of the old movies I saw in full), but this was one heck of a movie.

Chances are, if you've seen the Trailer, there's nothing I can tell you without spoilering to much about. I just really want to the stress that is a really great movie. It's fast, it's fun, it's smart. The cast is great. Just go and watch it, you won't be dissapointed.

I just saw a premier of this film.

I'm going to have to go against the grain here, I was really disappointed. It's essentially just an 2 hour CGI sequence which swiftly moved from one flashy action sequence to next. I' not saying action shouldn't play a part in Star Trek but in the past its always been a part of a bigger plot with philosophical questions being tackled. There no character development or subtle tension just big bangs. Star Trek fans have a bigger attention span than this, we don't need to be patronized with this whiz bang stuff. This movies is aimed at teenagers with low attention spans and boy does it show.

I didn't expect tons of scientific gobledegook or obscure references like a typical TNG or DS9 episode and I was glad of that. But this film swings far to far in the opposite direction.

Spoiler:
The alternate universe nonsense just seemed to be a lazy plot device so JJ Abrams could basically do whatever he wanted without paying any attention to the established universe. I wouldn't have minded subtle changes. For example Kirks attitude being different due to his fathers Death was a good Idea. But destroying Vulcan? FFS.
