A few years ago, the GW store in Manchester in the UK decided to run a really big tank battle and lay claim to the world record for the most number of vehicles in a single game.

The rules were nice and simple- anything with an armour value or a tyranid monsterous creature... everything fully assembled and everything fully painted...

The original record stood at some 1,157 models
Recently the chicago GW claimed they had broken the record with "operation citadel" and got an impressive number of vehicles.... but also a load of things that didn't count under the original rules.
So GW Manchester held the proper record, but thought it'd be time to have another crack at increasing the record- even over Chicargo's 2nd attempt which followed the rules...

Here are the results:

That is actually pretty cool!

Where would that be?
Every tank was fully painted- no exceptions, no excuses-
what are you basing that off?

Looking at the large lineup of models there are some pretty flat grey and black tanks in there, could be the fact that they are just that, flat colors.

If fully painted means 3 colors I got no love for this type of showing.

All the colors look flat. Welcome to the world of amateur videography.

Yes, because tanks are all going to be a dozen different bright colors. I forgot how in the 40th millennium tanks are basically low riding Cameros with spinners and hydraulics.

Pretty much discounts Black Templars then, doesn't it? ( yes I am being jokey)

I think all the attempts seemed to be a good laugh.
Record or not, good to see that level of commitment

Atleast black templars have white details =)

Dont get me wrong, I saw plenty of tanks that had noticable detail work even with the low quality video. I can be kind of a paint nazi when it comes to people saying "fully painted".

@Shuma - That example picture you posted has more colors in the tank than the entire GW paint line. On top of that there are alot of different camo schemes that are pretty colorful. You know how to use google image search =))

*2nd edition flashback*

Fair play to those involved I guess.

It might hve been a bit more impressive if they weren't just lined up on the floor of the shopping centre, but the thought's there.

And all painted too ? Blimey. How many people were actually involved in this anyhow ?

So playing on a proper table wasn't part of it then? ; )

Seriously though, it is ALWAYS cool when this many people come together for some great fun with model tanks. I look forward to seeing the rivalry continue and the number of tanks grow!

Cheers

America is just so spread out, I think the brits will always have our number when it comes to consolidated amounts of armor.

Lol... you just gave me a goal for if we do it again.... have enough table space to play on for it all

Probably going to try and do a few other records- most tanks in a game of warhammer for one (yay plastic steamtanks!)

It was an awesome day- the game resulted in utter destruction on both sides, but the highlight was for me was being able to run around making airplane noises with the store gun-cutter that hangs above one of the tables

This is one of those incredibly obscene things that you just smile at. There are no words. Imagine someone walking by looked and saw lines of plastic tanks squaring off on the floor.

Also I might add that the total cost of all those tanks is a stupid amount. You could definitely buy a REAL car with all that!

Edit: I might also add that I approve of the painted models rule. That use to be the standard when I started the hobby, although now it's more common to be playing against walls of primed and unprimed models.

Well, they wouldn't be playing these games if we hadn't saved their butts in dubya-dubya two.

Ah, the surest way to get an Englishman's goat besides calling footie "soccer". Well, you can't have an international pissing contest between our two nations without that comeing up at least once. I thought I'd get it out of the way sooner.

As to where we were:

Susan Boyle has a red coat if you're wondering....

Roughly how many people were involved in this then ? It's an impressive amount of tanks per head it would seem.

Kursk was tanks being shot up by aircraft and AT guns, this battle seems a lot more 'honest'.

I like the titans that are just casually standing back from the front lines, "yeah you just call us when you need our help" kinda attitude.

So was the shopping centre closed for this record breaking battle, or did you just cordon off an area?
