I used the Forge World Upgrade Pack with Respirators to give them all gas masks as well as some really cool kit. They also all have skulls on the shoulder pads. I might have a pic in my gallery of them if you look. Found em' sorry its not a good pic.

My entire army is converted out of plastic cadians, with all of the models being distinguishable by pose or equipment or whatever. I can (and do) use them all as veterans.
Edit: oh and I forgot. I also bought the fw veterans with shotguns, and cadian respirator sets. They were very good. Especially since I spread them over 40 models.

I've two vet squads in the works, both of which are made from normal Cadians, each with the 'vox-caster'/respirator-thingy head and the addition of backpacks from the HW sprues. I had thought about mixing Catachan bits in, but my logical side thinks they haven't survived as long as they have by shedding their armour, so why would they start now?
On the whole they're different enough to be clearly identifiable at a glance on the table as vets rather than regular troops, but close enough to the rest of the army to not to look out of place (other than the fact they're currently bare-plastic grey...)

I think i'm gonna use forgeworld pack and maybe change the color of the shoulder. Mine is white with the army sign in black for the cadian troops and i'm gonna paint them black with army sign white for the veterans.

I`m working on some veterans for an CoD campaign. They all have shotguns and I use greenstuff for the extra armour.

Join the Imperial Guard. The pay's lousy, the battles fierce and you probably won't ever come back again. BUT you get a lasgun.

If you want an inexpensive and good looking solution, just mix in a few Catachan parts. Every soldier hates wearing his helmet, and soldiers on an extended patrol usually take them off to hear better. The two outside guys here are examples of that.

I've just gone with the regular route for the Veterans using the Forge World upgrade packs. A little modification with some plastic kits, add a little flavour, and they look great!
