I don't think I've seen this posted before. There have been lots of rumors about whether GW would release the new Valkyrie flying stands as a separate item. My FLGS now has it listed for release on May 7th.

I'm mightily impressed with my bases, they are really sturdy and practical. Only downside to selling them separately is that the all models except for the Valkyrie don't come with the required part to connect the stand to the model.

I'd also like to see a shorter version.

In any case, an improvement is an improvement. The standard clear flying stands are a nightmare;the break when breathed on.

That's what they said. But if you've bought the old stands recently you wouldn't be surprised. I just got the small flying bases in a pack of four I think for $6. Crazy.

Pity they stopped selling those. They make great bases for home-made Asteroids for Star Wars Starship Battles.

Technically a model should only be based on the stand it came with, so Valkyrie stands are just an expensive way of solving a problem which can equally well be solved with a bit of plastic rod and wire coathanger.

Don't know if I got a duff one, but I'm going to be pinning my stand. The instruction manual shows securing pins at the bottom of the clear plastic strut, but none at the bottom of mine. Not sure if I'm prepare to trust my Valkyrie balanced on that with no support.

Pins? I just cleaned the top and the bottom then used superglue and pacer to glue it to the base. A good and solid fix.

why not just stuff your skimmer models with helium ballons and tie it down?

Because as GW doesn´t sell helium balloons (yet, coming next winter 50€ a set of 2) you won´t be able to use yours at any official tournament.

I haven't seen the Valkrie bases yet- anyone have a picture/dimensions? How do they scale up, size-wise, to the current skimmer bases?

How do you deploy a squad out of a valkyrie when it's more than 2 inches off the table? Thats the big problem that I see with a widespread use of this base.

Any improvement to the flying bases would be very welcome. I don't even glue my Destroyers to their bases in fear that the tips will break off and get forever stuck in the models.

gw flying bases are 75% carrot (cos they dam well snap like them)

The bases are really nice, and some of the local guys have really prettied them up (a Valkyrie skimming over some trees, for example.)

The only problem I've seen is the local TFG insisting that no one can deploy or embark on them due to them being so high off the ground on the stands. The guy he was playing shrugged, took it off the stand and said, 'And now they embark. Oh, hey, cover save now. Good thing you've insisted I ignore skimmer rules.'

You really saw someone try to say they couldn't disembark? I know there's an issue with the rules, but you really saw someone try to do that?

Yes, yes I did. He's one of those lovely human beings who will try ever so hard to bend the rules so it'll work against you and for him. On at least one occasion that I've seen he's tried to have it both ways...your Sisters of Battle Landraider can't use the new Power of the Machine Spirit but mine can.

Yes, we are currently working on a complex trap baited with the finest of lures to put him out of our suffering. The trap itself is complete. The problem is no one is willing to use there own miniatures to lure the bugger in.
