If it is a SW image the Chaos LC could be explained away by the fact that they still have a lot of their Pre-Heresy Equipment.

It could be explained that way with the fluff but that woudl be kinda cheesy. Either way the art does look good and it is a taste of something new so I ain't complaining. Notably absent though is a Termie with a TH or a SS. Coincidence or something more I wonder?

When in doubt.........Duck!

Thats the way SW fluff works, they didn't get rid of most of the stuff like the others because they didn't split, so they'd have more of em laying around. IIRC thats also one of the reasons that they have so many Plasma Weapons.

Either way though I like the look of the Chaos LC better than the Wolverine Power Fists.

It could turn up in both, GW loves to reuse images from other books in everything, just look at the new Guard 'Dex.

I see no Miranda-Class Starships in that photo, only drones and weird Tau buildings. And Space Wolves, of course.

And yes, this was shown when Planet Strike was shown. Hopefully there will be some more info on PS soon, especially given that that photo seems to come from a complete book.

Slightly off topic, but still about SW. I was wondering while driving home yesterday, if it actually makes any sense to get excited about an upcoming SW release.

I mean, sure, it will mean new miniatures, perhaps new fluff.....but, the pain of the Dark Angels is still felt whenever I sit down without my anal donut. I mean, whats to say that GW won't do something real similar with the SW as they did with DA?

I'm constructing a large SM army right now, and its Ultramarines.....why? well not because I love the fluff or anything, but from a purely gaming point of view, at the moment, its the only SM army that can be guaranteed to get the coverage and continued support that other armys won't get!

@Delephont: Do you need to buy a new Codex every edition? Do you buy the new minis when they come out?

Me, I'd rather play BA than SM, knowing that I'm going to skip editions with my updates, because BA is the best match to kind of SM I want to field.

Worst case, if GW cancels the sub-Codices, I guess I'll still be able to play as SM, but I won't like it. Perhaps that is where Traitor Legions really come from...

Come on, behave.....are you seriously asking that question? Ok, so because I hate the latest codex for what-ever army....I'm going to turn up at a game sporting the codex from two releases back? Sure, that would work if you were playing against people who you knew, but against strangers it ain't going to fly.

GW know that, I know that, and you should know that too.

Throwing in my change here, but I personally buy every Codex released. That's for several reasons. 1.) I'm a fluff-whore. 2.) I like to know my enemies rules. (Sometimes better then they know them.)

Yeah, I'm actually fairly serious here. Not all armies will get updates every edition. That is a fact, as GW has very clearly shown. So some Codices will be old. But that doesn't mean that they're not competitive. Dark Eldar is proof of that - they continue to do well in competition. Same with DH&Mystics.

I think you misunderstand. In my case, I don't like the SM Codex. 5E pretty much forces each player to choose a SM flavor to play under. As I have the models to play as JP-heavy BA, so I'm switching from a nominal "Codex" SM army to a sub-Codex army. But even before the WD BA Codex, I would have been fine to play as sub-Codex BA, even though those rules were formulated early in 3E. And as the latest "Official" printed Codex, strangers shouldn't have any issues with it any more than they should have issues with someone playing Space Wolves or Dark Eldar.

Now, if GW were to formally invalidate the 3E and other old Codices like they did with Craftworlds, Kroot, Armageddon, and LatD, then at that point, yes, strangers would have a basis not to want to play against them. Sad, but true.

But then, I don't have to play with strangers. My group is pretty tolerant, and we play mostly Apoc. So a lot of the objection is moot. Heck, one of our guys is going to be playing BoLS Arbites as his primary GEQ army. How cool is that?

@ JohnHwangDD

Huh? But thats not really what I'm talking about, is it? Codex DA changed the fluff or at least left certain aspects out, thereby re-writing the fluff for the Army, not to mention the technical aspects. The new DA codex superceeds the old GW musings on the subject of the army, and my fear is that Codex Space Wolves will go the same way, only to be "dropped" by many players because its crap....

Of course not every army gets an update with every new edition of WH40K, but when various armies do get the "update", then its curtains for the old stuff.

However, you've kinda proved my point. You play in a closed group, who know each other and are tolerant of various aspects of each others choice of play.....now take that attitude into a local GW store or tornament, blow off the dust on your 3rd edition codex and announce your up for a game.......my guess is you'd be the first table top wargamer to perfect the art of solo play!

IMO, it's hard to speculate on what will happen at that level of detail. As an Eldar player going back to 2E, I've seen more swings in the Fluff than any SM Chapter, so I'm not much concerned. I mean, Eldar get major Fluff changes with every Codex / edition, so a minor tweak to SW or DA pales by comparison. But I haven't "dropped" (i.e sold) my Eldar as a result.

If I go into a FLGS with a DE or SW Codex (I believe these are the oldest GW "official" Codices), I'd still expect to play a normal game. Why would someone refuse to play against either of these armies? Just because the Codex is old? That doesn't sound reasonable.

No, just a little AT-43-y. Which he's done a lot of artwork for.

And those are some VERY dead Tau.

I have played my Wolves at a couple of local tourney's and no one said a word about it. They were one of two Wolves players out of about 40 people and most were wowed that someone was playing them but no really cared. There were more DE players for certain than there were Wolves players. That will probably change when the new dex hits but tight now not alot of love for them.

I like the art but I do not read much into it. If I tried to find hints for rules in every picture I see then I think my mind would explode. But it is nice that they are doing something. I for one can't wait for Planetstrike. This looks like fun and should be a good time.

Welcome to GW. IF your new i'll tell you "get used to it". IF your not then you shouldn't expect things any other way. I have had multiple armies eliminated right out from under me in my days of 40K since the late eighties.

Genestealer cult, LATD I'm looking right at both of you on this one...

It is the way of GW. The game is not kind to those in it for the long haul...

I think your missing the point, the Space Wolf book from 3rd Ed is the current 'in print' codex in otherwords the legal one, the 3rd ed DA book is an out of print codex because they got an updated (but majorly crappy) codex, if you turned up and tried to use the 3rd ed DA codex at my club and flgs you would be asked to leave that just aint going to happen mate.
