All Campus Members,
Crime Alert

On Monday, April 6, 2009 at approximately 6:40pm, officers were dispatched to the Hobby Lobby store located at 20091 IH 45 Freeway in reference to a report of a robbery. Upon arrival, it was determined that victim was robbed by two black females. The suspects approached the victim and demanded her purse, and when she refused the suspects assaulted her with using some type of wooden bat and fists. Suspect #1 is described as being 18-25 years of age, approximately 5’-0” to 5’-6”tall, weighing 115-120 lbs, with a “wild looking unbraided afro”. Suspect #2 is described as being in her 40’s, approximately 5’-6”, and weighing 125-135 lbs, also with a “wild looking unbraided afro”. The suspects then fled the scene in an older gold colored 4 door sedan.

These suspects match the description in two similar robberies which also occurred in Webster, on Wednesday, April 1st. This information can be found online at http://www.cityofwebster.com/index.asp?NID=629 <http://www.cityofwebster.com/index.asp?NID=629>

Anyone that shops or lives in the Webster area should pay special attention to their surroundings and to anyone who takes a sudden interest in them, while these two are on the loose. If you see something that makes you uneasy, do not hesitate to notify the store manager or store security of your suspicions. At the very least they can escort you to your car and politely check out your suspicions.

It is always a good idea to limit the property in your purse while shopping, so that your whole life is not inside if someone takes it away from you. You won’t feel the need to fight over it, if you know your important stuff is not in it. By keeping your wallet, phone and keys in your pocket and only carrying makeup and other bulky essentials in your purse, you would still be able to call for help, drive home and avoid getting your ID stolen during such a robbery. At the same time, you can avoid getting injured during the event if you give up your purse on demand and look for an opportunity to run. Once you are away from the robbers, scream and yell for others to see what’s happened. Get the best description you can get and look for a license plate number if you see the robbers in a car. Your goal is avoid being a crime victim. But, if you are, you want to get through it without being injured.

Call the police ASAP and give them all that you learned during and after the robbery as soon as you escape from the situation.

Carry a can of mace. A couple of purse snatching Thelma and Luise copy-cats arn't that hard to fend off. Don't be isolated if assaulted Make noise run to a crowded area. Don't Look like a Victom waiting to happen. A couple of purse snachers isn't the hardest of crimes to defend aginst or convict.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Two women with sticks.

Personally I'd take the sticks off them and tell them to start running.

Whilst I am totally against violence towards women, if two of them started on me with a couple of chair legs I'd consider them breaking the aeons old agreement and get somewhat unfriendly back. Big affros? Thats alot of hair to pull em round by.

Did I mention the decade + playing rugby?

Still, one tiny elderly woman can rob me of all the money I am carrying if she's carrying a gun...

I didn't, I've been twatted round the head with scaffolding in my time whilst scrapping, I used to be something of a bad lad, I'm a short, wide and thick skulled git, wouldn't take me long to get a bat off one and then turn on the other...

Ahh! That makes me remember something...

Back in the grandparents' old house, I found a walking stick, with a 18" blade inside it! Apparently it was for warding off feral dogs in rural France, but I'm not so sure. That, and a WW1 cavalry sabre (Yes, French Cavalry, it explains a whole lot), but I'm not sure that I'd like to pop that on my belt and go out for a night on the town.

If they are carring a bat or club like object it's even harder to conceal. be aware of your surroundings carry some mace. if you get accosted sling your purse in a random direction. Don't shop alone. One had some type of bat and the other used her fists. Again they go for easy targets and are more interested in making some quick cash off of a easy mark than anything else. If they were interested in more than scaring and beating somebody a little for cash (like a 1950s greaser) they would be wielding knives and taking jewlery also. Plenty of simple self defence courses could have ended this by now.

And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.

Everyone knows that when you're being robbed, you just pull the lever and a 16-ton weight will drop on their heads.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I'm no expert, but wouldnt they be expecting you to just give up easily? Attacking them outright might throw them off. might even be able to take control of them and turn them into the cops yourself.

Just hope you roll some 6's

"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"

By all means carry a gun and threaten assailants with it, but don't shoot to kill. It's excessive.

It's not always excessive. Sometimes it's necessary to ensure that yourself or others don't come to harm. If someone came at a member of my family with a knife, I sure as hell wouldn't hope that a non-lethal shot stops him. It's not worth putting an innocent at more risk to reduce the risk you put a criminal in.

A lot of the time it's not even necessary to fire it all though. The fact that numbers or strength won't make you an easy victim should be enough to keep them at bay. Criminals rarely are willing to take an equal blow as they're trying to give out. They usually want easy targets. (Not that sometimes they won't have a different attitude...)

If you're shooting, you should be shooting to kill (or intimidate i.e shooting the ground), never to injure. You risk missing and potentially hitting something you don't want to (innocent bystanders, someones car, etc). Aim at the torso and fire if you're gonna shoot at them. If it comes to you really needing to shoot at them, 95% of the time you're justified to do so. Otherwise you're trigger happy and you should't have fired in the first place.

I shot a burglar in the foot. I easily incapacitated him an he's been locked away.

Well done! You took a risk and it worked. I'm glad to hear it. Personally though I'd aim for the torso. again, if i feel the need to shoot at someone, i'll probably be feeling the need to kill them. I just think that trying to not kill them is a bigger risk to me than 'risking' killing them outright.

There wasn't much need to kill him. He was taking three laptops and a DVD player. I wouldn't kill you over that.

Neither would I. Therefor I wouldn't shoot someone for that. I might try to melee them, but thats me. I obviously wasn't there, so I don't know the way the situation was. It might have made sense to me at the time too.

Again, i'm not condemning what you did, I'm sure you did what you judged to be the best course of action which is the best anyone can expect. If you're confident you can reliably shoot to disable rather than kill, more power to you. I don't have said confidence (Though i'm pretty good with a rifle. I used to be on a sport shooting team and i go to a range with a friend from time to time, i just dont think i'd be able to reliably hit a disabling target).

What I would do in that situation is kind of a moot point though. I don't own a gun (unless my nerf pisotl counts :-P)

The USA

hummm.

first thing i would do is hand over my wallet... then, once they are walking away. pull out my pistol. Next up tell them to stop, if they dont stop... then a few rounds will make at least one of them stop =)

and if the other one dosent stop, then a few more rounds should do the trick... by this time it might be running away though, a harder target to hit... 5 points if they are walking but 15 if they are running.

ooooo wait a min... i live in IL, and we have no CC laws.... So, i guess i would try and fight... the end result would be bad for me (what with them having baseball bats and all), but one of em is gonna be missing a few front teeth.

I love these self-defense scenarios. The best answer, if you live in America, is shoot them to death.

Once upon a time, I told myself it's better to be smart than lucky. Every day, the world proves me wrong a little more.

In America, those areas with cc laws in place these kinds of things do not happen.

There is no difference in the law in my state between pulling the gun out, shooting to wound or killing the person(s) who you feel are threatening your life.

All 3 actions are considered using deadly force. The threshold for using it is the same.

And we have very few crimes like the ones in this thread because no one is dumb enough to risk getting killed over a purse of money in a state where anyone over 18 may be carrying a concealed weapon and use it if they think their life is in danger.

As an aside, you may use deadly force in my state if someone sets your barn on fire, some rule huh?

In American states without concealed carry laws incidents of the type in this thread do occur.

Its the fear of not knowing if your victim is armed that makes the difference.

If I was vain I would list stuff to make me sound good here. I decline. It's just a game after all.

House Rule -A common use of the term is to signify a deviation of game play from the official rules.
