now that I finally accepted the official statement that this was really always planned that way and the marketing guy just got it wrong
I would like to know why it is now the other way around again and this is a long time thing that will see additional content coming?

Presumably because it's what is said will happen in one of the books in the box.
Whether it actually ends up happening now, of course, is a different kettle of fish.

Well, the second sentence in the rulebook literally is that fighting Radukar is the *first* quest that'll take place in the Cursed City, sooo (translated from my German copy, at least) ... Of course, they could do other standalone Cursed City WHQ games, & not expansions. We'll see.

Was the map on the Cursed City website ever fully explored in-game? It'd be weird for them to have this big map with lots of lore, but not have it used in the actual game.

this is the point
the past pages I was told to take the GW statement from the local stores and website as "ture", that Cursed City was always just planned as a stand alone one time thing, and because the marketing guy got it wrong it was advertised a different way
hence why all the reference about it staying around was removed
yet if they already "got it wrong" with the content int the box might indicate that it was not planned that way from the beginning
but still with the original game not coming back (that is why it was removed instead of just changed to "not in stock") I doubt that we see an expansion or any support for game that is not available and was never planned to stick around

Simples - the long (up to two years according to this very thread) lead-up, planning, and production cycle. BSF had roughly two years of support through boxed expansions (four minor, two minimumus - cards alone, two major), so even a couple small box expansions will through statistical likelihood most likely be en-route.

given the lead times it wouldn't be a surprise if an expansion has already gone into production (eg had the paper stuff ordered from china), if so we might see it released simply so they don't waste the money spent on it (although they might be so short of casting machine time they drop it)

Is, or isn't? They initially said he was on the reveal stream, then they walked that back to being just a big human in a WarCom article (much to my chagrin/dismay).

No that was Total Cards, the greediest pack of feths I've ever dealt with. Dont buy off Total Cards, ever.
Foolishly, I went back to them after their "request" to pay 60 pounds more for an item they already took money from me for.
I mean, being Australian, UK prices are really attractive!
So I made my order (warcry catacombs + catacombs board for effectively the boards for free, when compared to Aust prices).
They took my money again.
And then claimed another "mistake".
Instead of the listed (and charged) postage of £32.72, they wanted me to pay an additional £44.56 for the "actual" postage. So £77.28 for shipping...hah!!
I'm 100% done with them now, and reporting them for effectively bait and switch. (already reported them to GW for their scalping issues earlier).

not selling things that are already produced/ordered depends on what exactly the problem with the original box was
some people claim that it is because the cardboard from China costs too much in taxes/costumes so it is not profitable for GW ti import it and sell it (that is the reason why the cannot make more boxes), hence it would be cheaper for GW to just pay the order and throw it into the ocean instead of shipping and selling it

Report them to GW for a second time as if they aren't based in Australia they aren't allowed to ship GW products outside of their own region under their agreement with GW. So not only are they baiting and switching on prices, they are also doing things against the TC with GW as a stockist of their product.

Ok, in that case I suggest you forget about things then and don't watch the game line closely, I'll happily take any reduction in competition for any potential expansions.

Cursed City was definitely designed with expansions in mind but the decision to not reprint (at least for now) may have changed any expansion plans.
The biggest screw-up with Cursed City was not the limited release or lack of communication but the fact that GW sold more copies to retailers than it had products available, asked for payment in advance and were slow with refunds. If a store pays for 25 copies in advance and receives none, something is seriously wrong.

Yeah, it's not great, isn't it? Feels like a machine translation that was fixed to be (mostly) grammatically correct - no real style & atmosphere, just longish sentences full of adjectives and weirdly untranslated names (Radukar the Wolf, Watch Captain, even "Bat Swarms"?? ... come on, GW, that's not even a sensible trademark ...) I also had to re-read some rules a couple of times because the phrasing is so ambiguous, even tho the rules are really simple. Well, I'll try to solo one mission this evening, let's see if it's fun.

For me it is fun. So I hope it is also for you.
I also had problems with understanding the rules from bad translations (from the zombies and Radukars card) and had read twice or check some playthroughs on youtube after my first game, to see how to play correct. And the english names let me still check every card, if it is in German or if I got a wrong one.

Except that points to the problem that they over produced BSF. Three years out, they likely didn't want any BSF still on the shelves still. They looked at the number of BSF units produced and thought, we made too much. They clearly missed the estimate of how much they cut back. But with the whole pre-orders on hold and articles on inventory management issues points to a bigger problem that they likely don't want to admit. Would you openly come out to shareholder and say, we don't know how much we're producing, how much we have in stock or how much we sell? That would lead to a major share hit. The WHC group likely don't know what is going on either because they aren't being told. Management doesn't want the severity of the issues to get out.
