Okay, I am very sad. If you can guess why, it's because of stupid people and stupid music. I was in french class today (not my idea, I like german better.), when
someone stupid behind me says

"Why would someone name their kid Lead? And why is their last name Zepplin?"

"You can't honestly be that stupid could you?" is what I was thinking.

I was very, very wrong. Me being a bit of a Led Head was gracious enough to point out to this moron that Led Zep is a BAND, not a PERSON. Then even
more stupidity followed.

"Oh. Well they can't have any songs as good as the Jonas Brothers." proclaims Moron.

Much barely contained laughter and nerdrage followed.

"Seriously? Have you even heard a Led Zepplin song?"

"No, they aren't rock. But the Jonas Bros are." speaks Moron.

Even more nerdrage followed. This time it was unbridled, and I let loose with both barrels. Much of it cannot be repeated, as I had trouble forming coherent sentencesat this level of stupidity.

I then procede to ask this moron when i could form complete sentences had she ever heard rock? AC/DC, Metallica, Korn, Marilyn Manson (don't judge me.), Led Zep, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Guns and Roses, Velvet Revolver, W.A.S.P, KISS, White Zombie, Rob Zombie, Breaking Ben, Three Days Grace, The Who, Queen, Alice Cooper, Megadeth, Foo Fighters, Alice In Chains, Aerosmith?
And these are just the ones I could come up with off the top of my head.

Her response?

"No, they're gay."

My question. Does no one know what music is? Or at least how to distingish genres? Any one at all?

Some people need to just grow up and appreciate the past. I would assume you are a youth and this happened in class. Next time just facepalm and ignore them. If it continues to happen then feel free to inact the Emperor's Justice.

1.First off all. If someone uses "gay" just because he can't think of any other negative adjective then he's probably not worth your time.

2.I don't much about the Jonas Bros, at least nothing I didn't see on South Park. Maybe the kid's from one of those hardcore christian families and they don't even talk about other music.

3.Dude, people have a bad taste in music all the time. How do you thing 50cent made it to where he is today?
If you want to make it your personal job to teach people about great musicans from the past, then you can do that. But they might not like it. I still try to teach people that you write Spider-Man with a - and not Spiderman. Only DC heroes can't afford the extra line

4. Where's your avatar?

5. Thanks for prefering german over french

Under the Himalaiyan mountains

Jonas Bros. have their own show, yknow?

They fail so hard they had to have it made by Disney, the king of preteen wonders.

"I.. I know my time has come" Tethesis said with a gasp, a torrent of blood flowing from his lips.
"No! Hang on brother!!" Altharius could feel the warmth slip away from his dear sibling's hands

Tethesis's reached out his bloodied arm to Altharius's face.
"I..I have one final request"
Altharius leaned close to listen, tears welling in his once bright eyes.
"make sure th..they put my soulstone in a tank... it'll be... real fethin' cool"
"Yes, you're gonna be the most fethin' cool tank!!" burning hot tears streaked down Altharius's face, as he held his brother's soul in his grasp.

1. Working on finding an avatar as we speak.
2. You're welcome for prefering german over french.
3. I think we can agree (most of us here at least) Jonas bros suck with a passion.
4. I merely try and teach people the difference between "pop" and ROCK!! (notice the caps and !!!. That's how important it is.)

I have a serious problem with how much you understated this opinion. Personally, I think they should be fed through a blender on frappe. That would probably make a better tune than what they produce.

Being a bit older, I have had this discussion, but in relation to Jimmy Hendrix. I had some youngster tell me that he was over rated and not really that good. I showed considerable control not smiting him on the spot. But it took real effort. Just get used to it. Nothing worse than hearing a song you grew up with start being played on the "classic rock" station.

A local "classic rock" station plays STP and Nirvana on a regular basis. I feel old.

Our tastes/knowledge change over time. I remember a time when I thought Mic Jagger was pronounced "Mike". Kids are kids (for a while ate least).

The answer is no, they don't, and it makes me cry. Everyday.

You know that flo-rida song that used the "you spin me right round" hook? I actually heard a kid say "man that's such a cool hook, it's so original, how'd they think of it?" He was not kidding...

I'm going to see Third Eye blind wednesday. My favorite band of all time. I told a girl how excited I was and she asked "oh... didn't they sing semi-charmed life?" I sighed and confirmed. She then asked if they did breakfast at tiffany's. I left the room to gouge my eyes out with a rusty spork.

The other day, my younger brother (a freshman in highschool) told me there was a new rock band that was getting really popular. He asked me if I had heard of them. He was talking about Nickelback...

I'm not sure a thread about led zepplin is the place to talk about the lack of music culture in the world. Led Zepplins great, but hardly a bellweather of the times or of musical tastes.

Also my tastes are better than all yalls.

He told me that this guy sucks and is trying to sound like the guy in his "favorite band" which was system of a down. i swear i was going to falcon punch this kid right in his face and tell him they where the same person. But I didn't got my ear phones back and painted angrily.

You must not be a musician.

Most electric guitar players and music producers try to emulate Jimmy Page.

Many drummers still try to play like John Bonham.
Twenty times a day you will hear work from music producers(rock, pop, rap, whatever) trying to get that drum sound.

Bass players tend toward a mix of John Paul Jones(Led Zeppelin), James Jamerson(Mowtown), Chris Squire(Yes), John Entwistle(The Who), Paul McCartney(The Beatles) or Bootsy Collins(Parliament).

Robert Plant is the iconic model every A & R guy looks for. Not so much for singing, but stage presence and charisma.

The bland has ever been pushed by the media, decent stuff is ever supressed, until it's been around for so many years with such a strong support that the media accepts it and then tries to tell you they always liked it and it was ever mainstream!

We have modern music being produced right now that we have to fight and dig and investigate to find, due to the laziness and instantly provided alternatives though, it's more difficult to find the good stuff.

That's "Jimi". And, by today's standards, he isn't doing anything horribly impressive. A lot of the kudos rightfully due to Hendrix is because, at the time, what he was doing was groundbreaking. Kind of like Eddie Van Halen on VH's first album. But, as time goes on, the revolutionary things that these guys did become commonplace. I'm not at all surprised that a modern listener, presented with Hendrix for the first time, would think it was nothing special. It is hard for those who were not around at the time to appreciate the impact of older musicians.
