Ridin' on a Snotling Pump Wagon
|
I was reading my White Dwarf in the bog earlier, and decided to accompany my dump, I would read Jervis' Standard Bearer article.
In this months rambling missive, he mentions older models, and how it can be quite satisfying to own an army comprised of models from different era's of Citadel Design. Of course, this is a thinly veiled attempt to persuade people to hold on to old stuff and not sell it on. But thats not what I'm looking to discuss.
He eventually gets round to drooling at us about the Collectors and Classic ranges, and that namely, they are quite happy to take requests from us Gamers, Painters and Collectors as to what we would like to see dug out and made available again.
And it reminded me of something the now ex-manager of my local store told me in passing. Apparently, the same goes for Bitz Packs. If you request it, it can be made available from the archives.
Now combining the two with a streak of rumour about the Spear of Sicarius being comprised of the units illustrated as being in Sicarius' company in the SM Codex, I'm wondering if GW would be receptive to suggestions for new Bitz Packs. How did I come to this train of thought? Look at the illustration in the SM Codex. Some of the troops are wielding older marks of weapons, including a RTB01 Flamer, some RTB01 Bolters, and possibly even a Missile Launcher.
How cool would it be if 'classic' designs of weapons were metallificated and released as Bitz Packs? For those looking for a Pre-Heresey look, it saves time (but probably not money to be fair!) in tracking down the bitz necessary. Also, it can be a nice way of tying in your older models with your newer ones. Surely it can't be that hard to produce these? And I think they'd pretty well?
What do you think Dakka? And what Bitz Packs would you have made available (P.S. if it's existing parts, don't just tell us, E-Mail GW and request it. It might work. And if it doesn't, it's only cost you the time to type and send the E-Mail)

Maybe some combi-weapons packs. I don't think I've seen a bit for a combi-flamer.

I'd like to see an entire range of archive and classic bitz available. It would have an extensive catalogue that you could browse through, along with pictures of conversions using those bitz to really get your creative juices going.
If only they had something like that....

Weapons would be nice.
Having the old bitz service back is impractical and not very useful - as someone said in a previous thread, who needs an old set of Chaos Terminaotr Spikes #3 at a moment's notice? - but weapons would be very good (Iron Hands Thunderhammer Arm, Inquisitor Coteaz Daemon Hammer arm, Grey Knight arms that don't come in a pack with a dinky sword I don't want), and offering sprues out of box (like the CoD floor sprue, or Predator/Razorback Turret sprues). We need those.

Even if GW only provided the currrent range, I don't understand why you can't order any individual sprue currently in production. That makes no sense to me.

I'd like to see a bag of IG tank wheels and tread sprues. Treads for most ork vehicles, and wheels for all manner of uses, vehicles, cannon barrels, walker joints, you name it.
Packs of trukk wheels, or bike wheels.
While I'm at it, packs of bases that make sense, not this grab-bag crap.

I'm wondering if GW would be receptive to suggestions for new Bitz Packs.
GW is responsive to requests for new Bitz Packs. Many of the packs currently offered are there because of repeated customer requests (e.g., Sonic Weapons packs, plasma gun packs). And that's the key, it has to be something for which there seems to be a reasonable demand, so if you and a bunch of your friends all want to see a certain Bitz Pack, as many of you as possible should write in and politely request it. When the new Bitz Pack system was started many of us utilized this tactic and it has succeeded a number of times. I spend most of my hobby time at the GW US HQ and when the new Bitz Pack system was implemented I was told directly by certain employees at the time that if there was something we wanted to see, we should please write in and request it and that they would compile our requests and forward them along to the appropriate department. This write-in effort should continue so that GW has a good idea as to what customers would like to buy.

Not that GW would ever do anything practical, but I think besides offering certain sprues out of box, they should make a sprue specific to each race that is nothing but a few extra or useful bits. For example, a small imperial sprue that is just a few ranged weapons meltaguns, plasma guns, storm bolter. There'd be redundancy in the fact that you'd need multiples to get enough of what you'd need, but it'd pay off the cost of a small mold. I look at what GW did for the Apocalypse Command sprue, its a sprue of bits that doesn't go with any specific model. One or two accesory sprues specific to each race would cover the vast majority of bits people need.

Good news is, looks like what I've been told is not entirely untrue, given Brasscorpions contribution.
So how about it Dakka? Fancy haraunging GW with a particular request to see if we can get something available? Still not sure about being able to encourage new sculpts and sprues, but no reason not to try. After all, Chaos Warriors can get seperate Great Weapons and Halberds.
Do you think we need a poll for various options?
