Hey,

So after a very long break from 40k and my beloved guard the recent release of the new IG book inspired me to finally get round to painting the vast amount of stuff laying around my flat.

I decided that I wanted to do the mechanised/tank part first, and wrote a rough 1750 list. There is a tournament nearby in mid july so that would be some nice motivation to finish a decent part of the army and to get some much needed practise before the UKGT.

First of all I decided that I wanted to do a desert themed colour/camo scheme, but not using the Tallarn models because they are quite expensive to use en mass and also I prefer the cadians =P. The force would also be themed/based around assaulting a city of some sorts, so I ordered some resin bases which I felt fitted that.

New pics further down the thread =)

looks promising but hard to judge due to the bad piccies. I look forward to seeing better pics if they are coming Looks like a very nice use of desert camo and a some good weathering.

Hopefully by Tuesday the damn camera will be fixed, in the meantime I should have quite a bit done-3-4 chimeras and most of the squads painted.

Keep at it! Anything Cadian and mechanized sounds good to me!

What's the issue with the plasma sponsons on the Executioner?

It means a wheeled transport unit I think, hence the two small circles underneath the rectangle. A tracked unit has a kind of track shaped oval under the rectangle.

Yes the symbols are copied from german ww2 set, I decided to pick random ones to add to the tanks to fill the big open spaces to be honest =P.

Heres a heavy weapon team for my 1st squad:

And here is 2 pictures of the squad together:

Again not really the best pictures, ill try and get some better ones tomorrow.

Devil dog is now finished, pics of that will be up tomorrow too and hopefully the 2nd leman russ will be done too.

Still need to write the little names on the side, do people recommend using a fine black pen for that?

10 melta guys I painted for various vet + command squads.

Using this as my HQ guy thingy, not as creed love the model though. Almost finished just a few touch ups and the base to sort.

So 2 days of 1/2 watching 24 and 1/2 painting I managed to finish 2 squads of vets.

Here is a shot of the whole army together how it stands right now.

Hopefully I can get pics of the 2 vet squads on their own when I get a chance.

Next I have to paint my 2 hydra/manticores, leman russ, another 1-2 devil dogs and a valkyrie/vendetta. I also have to paint some heavy flamer guys, not sure if I want to use the flamers I already have and just change the weapons or paint new guys..hm :/

I may mess about with the grey knight resin redeemer cannons rather than the standard redeemer cannons for the devil dog, they are just a bit more expensive >_<.

I like to use a Micron 0.45 mm line width black pigment pen. How neat is your handwriting?

Another option is to make your own decals with black lettering. This works better for people that don't have neat handwriting or want very specialized formatting or fonts.

I really like the bases for your infantry - especially the guy stepping around the chair.

Hehe, yeah I was trying to go for the realistic look...

My main strategy is to get these painted for this tournament in July to a decent gaming standard, then hopefully after that before the GT really go to work on the details...thats the plan anyway >_>.

Heres the pics of my squads, I'm still not sure if I want vets or infantry squads so I painted a bit of both! Still got a few options like plasma gunners that need finishing.

1st Objective counter:

Vets with melta guns

Platoon command squad

1st Infantry squad

2nd Infantry squad

Full shot of whats finished

Or well nearly finished >_> manticore rockets still need doing as do some decals here and there.

K.... this army and its pics need to be emailed to GW
so they can show it on WD.

TO ensure 100% chance of it , simply label it "US anti terrorism Guards "

Very effective paint job too.

I love seeing the old Cadian minis still being used by people.

Overall a nice themed army! Can't wait to see more

The painting and poses are great and I really like all the cool bases. Did you buy bases with resin rocks on it already or are they all homemade bases?

BlackDrasoSLC: I bought the resin bases from ebay mostly, and yeah they already had the rocks/terrain sculted onto it =].

I've been quite busy with real life recently..only had time to paint 2 objective markers and a few colours on the vendetta =(.

I'm not sure of this base..I may put some plasticard under the bottom and make a little pool of some liquid..not too sure water fits in xD but perhaps slime or something? =/.

Sorry the lighting on the pictures isnt the best. Wanted to keep the civilian objective theme going.

Hopefully more to come soon.

Small update this time.. curse you hot weather!

I picked lascannon teams in my vet units for the derby tournament for some odd reason, and I realised that I didn't actually have any painted so..

Here's the bases for vendettas, they are nearly done >_<, I love the models but goddamn hate painting them.

More to come soon I hope.

Doesn't to my eye. US troops (pre-ACU) had a mix of Desert and Woodland. It sort of looks like a mix between Polish and Australian desert camo. And I'm still loving the fact you're using the old metal Cadians as well. Inspiring me to do the same to my boxes of them.

infilTRAITOR is right, we did mix-and-match a lot of camos during OIF 1. ACUs didn't become mainstream until around 2005. I remember being ordered that woodland uniforms would no longer be acceptable uniform in our unit, and if we didn't have ACUs then we needed to purchase them.

This is great looking army, very inspiring. Makes me think my IG army could be desert based Cadians rather than DKoK style... almost.

Thanks for the comments so far, DKoK are superb models and I am extremely envious of anyone with a whole army of them (they are far beyond the pocket of a poor student =P)..my only concern with them is that they are perhaps a little overdone these days and also I'd hate to ruin such expensive models with poor paint jobs ;P.

Here is an update on the army...I got back from my first 40k tournament, and I had a blast =P. I hadn't had much practise with the army beforehand (perhaps 5-6 games all at 1500 point level) so I was usure how I would actually do. I eventually came 6th out of about 30-35ish people which I was happy with. The tournament was 3 games and I lost the first to mech orcs, won vs another Imperial Guard army and finally won (just) vs necrons.

I had stayed up till around 5am the morning before the tournament finishing off the vendettas (which as you will see are missing nearly all the details, including the fact the lascannons aren't painted at all lol). They were the 'units of the tournament' so they deserve better treatment! I will hopefully be able to go back and finish all the details but right now I consider this army mostly finished. I recieved positive feedback from other players at the tournament which I was very happy about and also some ideas for improvement-it's amazing how simple things other people pick up on that you don't even notice.

Here are some shots this evening after I was fixing up all the travel damage and seeing if I had left anything behind =P. You also get to see my messy floor once again.

Imperial guard wise what I have also painted is 1 chimera and 10 more vets...I also have left to paint 2 hydras. Also some bar stewards at my local store stole 2 of my melta gunners and the stormtrooper melta gunner, more repainting :(

In the shots you might be able to make out my next project..already started on it and having fun converting those terrible models =P, I will hopefully put some regular updates of how that progress goes a long with any updates on this army.
