One use I've heard for scourges is to take a relatively naked squad with a sybarite, and give them a WWP. THe extra speed or deepstrike gives you a chance to get the portal much deeper into the field.
I can't say I've ever tried it myself. I've sat and stared at the scourge entry and tried to figure out what the heck they could be used for, and have come up with nothing.
Excellent article. Probably the best write up I've seen in a long time for the dark eldar.

Thank you very much!
I've never heard of the WWP Scourge idea (and I can see why you never tried it) but this is awesome, as part of why I wrote the article was to generate some discussion on other DE tactics . I might want to wait to see if anyone has some success stories with it before I add it to the article, since at face value it seems awfully risky and no faster then putting the portal with a Haemy on a bike or Raider. It's frustrating that Scourges have such a cool overall concept but that the way the rules work for deepstrike, movement, and heavy weapons just don't gel enough to make them work in any functional way.
Regards,
Thor.

Hi there!
I've just read through your tactica regarding raiders. have you thought about a combination of trophy racks and Horrorfexes on raiders? I've found that using two raiders with both upgrades tend to work very well in tandem.
You simply put them next to one enemy squad each, and then fire the Horrorfexes at the other raiders enemy squad that way the target will get -1ld for the trophys, and then an additional -1-3 from the horrofex itself.
The only problem is that you tend to get pretty close to the enemy, but on a transport raider it can be a good idea as two units are either pinned or in close combat with the passengers
Just a thought

Trophy Racks and Horrorfexes (or Torture Amps) are indeed a time honored method for messing with your opponent's battle lines and hopefully forcing multiple failed morale tests.
I personally find Horrorfexes to be pretty solid all by themselves without a need to add on the Trophy Rack to help boost it (though I have used Trophy Racks to good effect in Planet Strike games where I also took the DE stratagem that lowers morale more and more each turn - that was pretty darn fun). Thanks for the thoughts!

I may be missing something here, but I'm looking at my codex and it says under warriors 'for every ten models in a squad, ONE Kabalite warrior may replace his splinter rilfe with a Dark Lance'
How are you having five man squads with a Dark lance? or 10 man squads with two?

I think you might be missing something. That article was written for the previous codex, not the spiffy new one that you're reading out of.

Updates are now actively happening. Should probably be done within a week or two and then everything will be all spiffy keen and new codex approved (and spikey).

I knew that one was going to make people sad.
That said - I really don't think he's that good in competitive games, which is what that scale is about.

Yeah, suppose it depends on your list/playstyle. I LOVE him as an annoyance unit, most people have a tough time moving a 15 strong 3+ cover unit, especially once they get a token (which isn't had) for FnP. Though I can see your point on duke... perhaps I'll throw you a copy of my list and see what ya think? Been starting DE again

My feelings on the Baron are mixed, I do believe that he is over priced, but he does make Hellions a troop choice and they do a wonderful job of getting to the objectives at the last minute, in addition to that he also give a +1 to your opening turn roll so that does give him some more creditiblity. Personally I think that you did a fairly good review, but the baron did come off somewhat bias and lack the covering of his strengths as well as his weaknesses. But overall I was very pleased with your overview. Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh I am sorry I miss the part where it was for the older codex, retract my statement about the Baron as I do not own the older codex. Again I am sorry about that.

@Zid - I'll give your list a once over and fire it back with thoughts.
Alastergrimm wrote:My feelings on the Baron are mixed, I do believe that he is over priced, but he does make Hellions a troop choice and they do a wonderful job of getting to the objectives at the last minute
The thing is, so does every other Troop choice in a Raider/Venom - or even just the Raider/Venom itself.
Alastergrimm wrote:in addition to that he also give a +1 to your opening turn roll so that does give him some more creditiblity.
That is pretty good - but since he lacks a power weapon the real question is does stealth on the Hellions he joins and +1 to the opening turn role equate to 100 point value? Because really he's just a fancy Helliarch otherwise. If he had a power weapon and three wounds and cost 120 or so I'd probably love the guy, but burning a shadowfield on a unit that does what he does on the tabletop is pretty questionable to my mind.
Alastergrimm wrote:Oh I am sorry I miss the part where it was for the older codex, retract my statement about the Baron as I do not own the older codex. Again I am sorry about that.
Nah, that part is all new codex, so feel free to fire away freely.

I dont remember there being a 0-1 limit on shadowfields (as why you dont like the baron)
Isnt it just the items with an asterix * that is 0-1 per army?
Good article by the way, I've been wondering what to do with my wyches, and you have confirmed what I was thinking.

Hmmm, you're right - that was some old confirmation bias from the old dex, nowadays you can bring multiple shadow fields. There's some interesting possibilities there. I'll amend that section.

I'm still working with him as paired with Beastmasters - the +1 is worth it now that there is a unit it actually makes any sense whatsoever to field him with. I'll get around to readjusting stuff after I actually finish up the bulk of the writing and interlinking. Really I kind of want to go to a five star system or something - there's too much gray area with just the three rough categories.

Well...it sort of is. The problem is it's a good bonus, but you have to join him to a squad to help make him more than just paying 100 points for +1 to a roll. The problem is, Hellions pretty much suck. Dash came up with a Beastmaster joining that I like and am investigating, which could adjust the Baron, but I'm still working it over.
