Like the title says, this is a thread dedicated to sharing your house rules, either long-time favorites or simply those brainstorms that you wish somebody would let you use.
I'll start with one that has been percolating in my warped mind for a few weeks. I really hate that vehicles must only shoot at one unit, potentially wasting the shooting of one or more weapons. To remedy this without radically changing the way vehicles work, I propose that weapons that are not shooting at the vehicle's primary target may shoot at the closest enemy they can draw a line of sight to, but this is limited to half the weapon's range. (The gunner is using his own initiative and is therefore more reactive than pro-active) Also, if a vehicle moves so far that it could not usually shoot more than one weapon, it can indeed shoot with other weapons, and the half range limitation is in effect, and in addition you only hit on a 6. (Due to the jostling about of the vehicle)
For debate on whether or not House Rules should be used in general, please direct your comments to this thread.

Gwar's! Club House Rules: #1) Follow the Rules as Written. #2) Anyone using TMIR gets a Kick in the nuts, followed by Gwar! seeing if it was warranted. #3) In either result, a second swift kick to the testicles is made and the game continues. #4) Gwar! is the final word on everything.

Ruins with walls are a 12-12-12 armor building, any rolls that wreck or destroy the wall causes every one in it to recive a str 3 hit on a 4+ as the tumbling walls pile on you.
it makes kill point a little less 'hug the closest cover and make a campfire with smores'

My group uses a few house rules
1 > Instant Death causes d3 wounds
This gives models without instant death immunity at least a chance to survive most of the weapons aimed at them in the 1st place.
2 > Vehicles take a turn to contest objectives
This is really just meant to prevent people from doing a suicide dive on the last turn to prevent
3 > Troops can not capture objectives from inside a transport
This is more of a group outlook than anything rules wise. We find it odd that a squad can capture objectives just by looking at it from inside a tank.
Then a couple of house rules that are more paperwork and basic play stuff
4 > A dice that lands off the table or ended up crooked must be rerolled
This is fairly common so moving on...
5 > In order to play you must have a written down list that is easily readable
A lot of people like to use lists they "memorized" or write down sloppy. Just to make sure they actually have the upgrades they claim we made this rule
6 > You may only proxy the same unit for up to a month. After that just buy the models already >.<
We have some players that use some strange proxy methods that are funny. But after a while ff you keep using that proxy then you must like it and should get the models. We had one player who made a cardboard circle and used a marker to write what it was on it to proxy. An other printed out a pic of the model and attached it to a cardboard cutout lol.
We have more house rules but I'm not going THAT in depth here. Most of them are more army specific stuff and I'll drop them off later if I feel like it.

Another house rule emerged from my warped mind recently. This is a response to the hit allocation rules, which I hate.
The owning player allocates all of the hits, then both players roll 1D6. The one with the higher roll repositions a number of hits equal to the difference between the rolls.

In other words, if you aren't posting 'your own house rules', chances are you're off topic.

Our house rules:
1) Dice that leave the table are re-rolled, regardless the result.
2) We're not going to undo prior turns, even if mistakes were made. If you don't catch a mistake by the end of the current turn, it's part of the game.
3) GW and Adeption FAQs are used for rules questions.
4) Bring a legibly written/printed list if you want to play
5) It's better to be 10 points under than 2 points under. 1500 means 1500, not 1502
6) Whoever brings snacks to share gets one re-roll for the night.

Just in apocalypse really:
Flank March is banned (except if a data sheet gives it). It is just too good not to take, even if your opponents takes ambush in response. Its one of those real no-brainer choices that suggest that something is broken. Data sheets usually need you to pay lots of points to use it and usually have it on things that make sense.
Vortex Grenade is banned: Not my choice but a friend of mine got annoyed when I one-shotted his custom built warhound with one in three consecutive games.
Generally we try to avoid things that mean you have to roll more dice or do any calculations, not because its hard, just because it slows the game down so much.

You are only, for any reason, allowed to roll 100 dice. All dice rolls above that are rendered null and void, like they didn't happen.
This is usually changed for apoc, but it's to prevent that guy with 900 orks in a 1000 point list from slowing the game to a stop.

Skimmers should not be hamstrung by stupid terrain rules. Why skimmers are unable to stop above difficult terrain is beyond me. The rules we use at our FLGS go like this.
Skimmers disregard all terrain, but if they end their move above any terrain, they count as being over it and therefore visible to everybody, and if they end their movement in clear terrain, they benefit from any cover between them and the shooters. And the height of their bases is irrelevant.
(GW does not seem to grasp that people who play their games have above a bare-minimum IQ.)

I always thought that grenades could be better in game these are the house rules i use for them:
1: Frag grenades can be thrown at the unit that you are going to charge. The grenade is thrown at a single enemy with a profile of str4 ap4. Every model in the squad can use their frags but can shoot as well (this represents the ability to be shooting and then throwing a grenade at the enemy).
2: Krak grenades can be tagged to 1 enemy model in the assault phase no matter how many of the squad have krak grenades. You roll to hit as normal and if the model is succesfully tagged than the model that gets tagged (chosen by the player using the krak grenade) suffers a str8 ap2 hit. However being so close as to tag the opponent the person using the grenade takes a str6 hit with armour saves allowed.

Cocked dice, dice that land on terrain, dice that leave the table are re-rolled. Dice that 'slip' out of hand before a roll are re-rolled. You can't let a few snake out of your hand then try to knock 'em around with the rest. BYOB or pitch in for the cost at least. The individual who currently has the turn can call for the game to resume at his convenience, if there is a conversation taking place. Don't get emotional, whiney, or mad, and please DO have fun.

A lot of my group hate Kill Points, so we came up with a few variations:
1) Use victory points instead (because after an 3 hour wargame, 10 minutes of addition is worth finding out who won)
2) d6 after deployment, 1-3 KP as normal, 4-6 the person with the most KP still on the board at the end of the game wins.
3) 1 KP per 50pts, rounding normaly.

So my squad of 10 tactical marines with frag grenades get 10 blast attacks when they charge? After that there's no such thing as close combat. Now for something on topic that I thought of:
Terrain like forests and hills don't affect tanks with AV 12+.
I can just imagine how the real rule would work in real life- SM driver " Sir, our LR is now immobilized because we hit a tree."

Yes i see your point but for assault squads, black templars cc crusader squads etc it means that they can soften the enemy before they charge so it's not intended for normal bolter squads obviously.
