I'm looking for advice on which assassin to buy. I like the vindicare because he's good for enemy heroes especially space marines where they are point sinks. I don't like the callidus or the culexus because i won't be facing phskers (sp?) and I don't like the callidus. I like the eversor as well but i need help deciding. can you help me?

The vindicare looks the coolest and leaves the most possibilities up to conversion...headshot!
but if conversion isn't your thing and you'd rather just have a guy who works well on the battlefield (LAME!..joking) then I can't help you, it has been so long since I read up on the assassins.

I have the Vindy with both weapons out and wish I had the aiming one instead.
If he is using the pistol, it's late in the game, or you messed up. He is a sniper...have him aiming at something.

Yeah go with the vindicar yes its the most expensive points wise but the fact that you can shoot into CC and pick out their HQ totally rocks. I also must agree with Rangerob I have the vindicare with both guns out. I painted up a vistorian sniper (the one with the funky mask) to act as a vindicare assassin for when I have a squad of them in Apoc games. Now that is a fun squad to have.

Actually the Callidus assassin is the best one. She can be placed anywhere on the battlefield when she comes in from reserve and can move as normal. She can also move units about, which is useful if you have the first turn and want to shoot the rear armour of a tank, group infantry together for a blast marker or move a squad out of line of sight.
You actually fight more psykers than you think. CSM, Guard, DH, WH, Tyranids and eldar all regularly use psykers. SM often do as well. Really its only tau, demons and orks where their abilities wont be useful. Culexus assassins are very good for killing some of the hardest units in the game, like seer councils, demon princes and hive tyrants.
Everors are nice and killy, but can get shot to pieces if left out in the open. Hes good on the charge but can get bogged down easily in bigger squads.
A vindicare is ok, but nothing really special. Killing enemies with special weapons looks good, but they will probably have more where they came from. Killing enemy characters takes a long time, even with special rounds. Wounding on 4s is what really makes a vindicare bad. If you hit with every shot you make in a 6 turn game, you will only wound with 3 of them. not good.

The vindicare has some crazy good usefulness that make it awesome. For example, if an enemy charges into your unit, kills all but 1, and is stuck in combat, meaning you cannot shoot them with the rest of your army during your turn, you can use the vindicare to blast your own trooper to allow the rest of yoru army to wipe out the opposing squad.
Or if you have a vehicle that is about to be assaulted by a squad with a powerfist, snipe the powerfist.
Or if your opponent just came into range with his meltagun squad on your tank, snipe the meltagun.
the list goes on.

The Marksman rule ignores ALL targeting restrictions, as long as he can see the unit.
This tactic has been used many times, and until a tournament says otherwise, will be used many many more.
Back on topic, I love my aiming Vin model, though I really wish for updated models on all 4 of the temples.
While the other 3 assassins have their uses, and may be more powerful in terms of which army they excel against, I always go back to the vin for the simple reason. People fear something that have to roll for just to shoot at, and something that can pick any of their models, save for a tank, and take them off the table.
Callidus main power is word in your ear. Something that just messes up the first turn. Does it have a huge effect? Yes, but its gone after the first turn and the player is not really all that worried the rest of the game.
Culexus worries psy players, but I have seen a rapid decline in those kind of players (save for SM Lib)
Eversor goes crazy for about 2 turns then blows up. In alot of armies (orks for example) dont really fear this guy.
In no way am I saying that the other 3 are useless, but the vindi has that psychological effect the entire game. And to me, thats puts me in a very comfortable position.

Ye the callidus is good but she will get pummeled (sp?) against orks due to numbers and she only has a 4+ save anyway so she dies quick. The vindi can destroy tanks with the turbo penatrator round why just today i destroyed an annihalator first turn! Automatically Appended Next Post: And the vindi is second most expensive the callidus is most expensive.

The Vindicare, Callidus, and Eversor can all be used effectively, but require skill on the part of the player. The Culexus is even more specialized than the rest of the Assassins and generally only sees use in gimmick/combo builds. I often field Assassins and have had good results with them, but they take some getting used to.

I agree with that. The Vindicare is by far the Simplest and easiest to use. The Main problem with Assassins atm is the need to have an Inquisitor Lord, making them Unusable (at least for Space Wolves, and I couldn't care less about the lesser armies )

I agree the vindicare is the easiest t use although i kill more stuff with his ap2 pistol then the damn rifle (wound on 4+?! Stupid. )
But the eversor has always made his points back for me. He will die pretty quickly to hordes but then hes gonna take some with him as he dies too!
Once against a Nid Player I infiltrated near a sinper fex charged first turn (Thank you 12in charge) Killed the fex. Which made my friend bring some genestealers back so his other fex wouldnt die. Stealers killed eversor he had the meltdown and took 4 stealers with him.
Not to shabby for 95 points.

My personal preference is the Callidus. I'd pay half her points just for Word In Your Ear. You've got a thunderfire in the bolstered ruin? Not any more. You're planning on turboboosting your bikes for your Scout move? Nope, lookie there, one of them is in difficult terrain, no turboboost for you. Unit behind LOS blocking terrain. now I see them. Anyways, you get the idea. And added to the Inquisitor Lord that I have to take to get her with his Emperors Tarot, for a (usually) +1 on the die roll to go first.... Well, it's fairly effective. But contrary to what someone posted above, if you move a vehicle, the owning player gets to choose facing so it will not guarantee you a rear armor shot.
Then there's the Neural Shredder. ST 8 (tests against LD instead of toughness) AP 1 Flamer. Mathhammer says that half of all Marines hit will die. Sure, less useful against higher LD but that's what the Psyker Battle Squad is for....................
Yes, for a dedicated hth assassin, she's not that strong. No frags so she goes at Init 1 when assaulting into difficult terrain. Only T4 with 2 wounds and only a 4+ invul. I expect her to die. Especially with the new Charge Reaction rules. Used to be she coupld clip a unit, kill those in range and jump out. Now she's more of a suicide assassin unless you can hit small isolated units. 'S allright. The C'tan Phase Sword bit for no saves not even invul makes her very useful. Small termie squads, crisis suits, remnants of whatever, she's a great clean-up batter.

Nope, you get to choose the facing of a tank you move. I remember this, because in apoc once someone bought a warlord, and we took 4 callidus assassins. 1 turn later, and the titan stood no more.

That is an Apoc formation that changes the way word in your ear works to allow facing, in normal 40k it is not so.

That is an Apoc formation that changes the way word in your ear works to allow facing, in normal 40k it is not so. QFT.
Protip: Get the facts before Blurbing out.
The Apoc formation lets you pick the facing. Normal 40k explicitly states the Owning Player gets to pick the facing.

I personally use a Vindicare in my Guard Army because I think they're BADASS (Woo Woo!) looking and effective for my shooty-base. I've seen an Eversor used incredibly effective however, but was with older editions. They used to be able to take out masses upon masses of dudes. Right now, no idea. The background stories for both are awesome though. I remember one story of an Eversor that took out an entire Clan at a family reunion. He ran out of ammunition and resorted to the use of table knives and forks.

Eversor + wolf scouts using OBEL with meltabombs = lol
and i definately like the vindicare marksman ability, or even Telion in a scout squad for that matter.
You know you can take them with space wolves, right? As long as you pay for the Inquisitor Lord as well...
